Sixers eliminated from 2025 NBA Cup

Sixers Cut Down, Snubbed from NBA Cup Competition After Crushing Loss to Magic

In a disappointing turn of events, the Philadelphia 76ers have been knocked out of the running for the NBA Cup's knockout rounds, marking the third consecutive year they've failed to advance. Their loss to the Orlando Magic on Tuesday was the final nail in the coffin, as coach Nick Nurse acknowledged that his team has simply not risen to the challenge.

Nurse himself had high praise for the competition, calling it a "great addition" to the regular season, but unfortunately, Philly's performance hasn't quite matched its hype. Despite being coached by someone with experience in similar events, the Sixers have struggled mightily in the NBA Cup.

The team will still get their chance to play two more games in early December against other teams that didn't make it into the knockout rounds. These games will serve as "regular season" contests for each of those teams, but for the 76ers, they'll be nothing more than a consolation prize – a last-gasp attempt to eke out some wins and get their full slate of 82 games.

The NBA Cup's knockout rounds are set to culminate in Las Vegas next month with an eight-team single-elimination bracket. While the Sixers won't be part of that mix, they'll have to settle for a smaller prize – avoiding a complete collapse into the regular season schedule without any meaningful competition.
