Spotify Wrapped is taking over our feeds, but you don't have outsource your relationship with music to AI | Liz Pelly

I don't usually comment but this Spotify Wrapped thing just got me thinking... have we become too reliant on these services to tell us what's "cool" or what we should be listening to? Like, I know it's convenient and all, but can't we just use our own judgment for once? 🤔 And what about when your taste changes? Do you still get to see that updated list of your favorite tracks from a year ago?

I mean, think about it. We're basically letting these companies shape our musical tastes for us. That's not cool, right? It's like we're outsourcing our own memories and emotions to some algorithm or corporate overlords 🚫. And what's wrong with making our own playlists, writing our own lists... just because? 📝

It's all about taking control of our own experiences and not letting some company dictate what's "important" or "cool". I mean, we should be using these services to enhance our lives, not control them. 💻

I remember when music was all about digging through crates at the local record store or waiting 3 months to get your hands on that new album by your fave artist 🎶👀. Nowadays, it's all about streaming and playlists. I'm not sure if that's a good thing... I mean, don't get me wrong, it's convenient and all that jazz, but are we really losing touch with what makes music special? When my Spotify Wrapped comes out, I just glance at it and see what I listened to most - does it really tell me who I am as a person? 🤔

I think the problem is that tech companies want to make everything easy for us, but in doing so, they're taking away our own critical thinking. It's like, yeah, AI can generate playlists and all that, but what about when you want to go deep into music history or explore new sounds? That's where human thought comes in 🤓.

I wish more people would take the time to write their own lists and share them with others. It's a way to connect with ourselves and with each other on a deeper level 💭. By doing our own thinking, we can create something truly special - not just some corporate-branded scorecard that reflects what's trendy or popular 📈.

Let's not give up our critical thinking to the algorithms, you know? It's like, I get it, life is busy, but worth it 🙏.

ugh dont get me wrong i love spotify wrapped but come on we need to think about what we're getting into here 🤯 its like we want the perfect scorecard but really we just wanna feed the algorithm and let it make all our decisions for us 📊 meanwhile our own thoughts and feelings are getting lost in the noise 🎵 i mean think about it we spend so much time curating our playlists but when it comes to year end reflection we just click play on whatever Spotify tells us to listen to again lol what about our own personal taste? what about what moves us? let's take control of that and make our own list 📝 even if its just a scribbled notes app screenshot or something 🤪

Ugh, can't believe Spotify Wrapped is back again 🤯♀️. It's like they're trying to make us feel like we're not smart enough to figure out our own music taste 😒. I mean, what if it's not even accurate? Like, my most streamed track might be because I've been listening to it on repeat while studying for exams, not because I actually love the song 📚♀️. And don't even get me started on how they're just trying to sell us stuff 🤑. It's like, can't we just have our own thought process for once? 🤔

I remember in year 9 when we had to do these reflective essays on literature and I was so done with analyzing every single detail 📖. But looking back, it was actually really valuable because it made me think about what the story meant to me on a deeper level 🤩. So yeah, taking ownership of our own reflections is pretty important 👍. Let's stick to our notes app and handwritten lists, no corporate AI needed 💯
