The audience is howling and drooling over Filament Theatre’s latest show, literally

Filament Theatre's latest production, "RAIN: for babies and their carers," has taken an unconventional approach by inviting audience members to let loose. The show, which features a maximum of 10 babies and their accompanying adults, is designed to prioritize the youngest attendees' comfort and enjoyment above all else.

Upon entering the performance space, expectants are ushered into a soothing transition room where they can relax amidst soft fabric strands and gentle rain sounds. Once inside the main stage area, the audience settles around a large, circular "blanket" where actors Ariya Hawkins and Alexandra Plattos Sulack perform rain-themed songs alongside cellist Sonia Goldberg.

As the show progresses, the boundaries between performer and audience dissolve, with babies – and sometimes their caregivers – getting up close and personal. Droplets of water fall from above, courtesy of mosquito nets filled with tulle fabric, while actors playfully engage in playful interactions with infants, demonstrating an acceptance of messiness and chaos.

For new parents, particularly those struggling to adjust to the demands of caring for a newborn, this show offers much-needed solace. Director Ellie Levine notes that all eyes are on the babies, ensuring they're having "a safe and enjoyable time."

From Australia's Threshold theater, the concept has been successfully exported to Chicago, with Filament Theatre presenting its first-ever production for infants and their caregivers. This unique offering aims to provide a tranquil environment where parents can bond with their little ones, counteracting the stresses of daily life.

For those eager to experience "RAIN: for babies and their carers," tickets are available at filamenttheatre.org.

I think this show is literally going to be like therapy for new parents 🤗... I mean, can you imagine walking into a room full of strangers who just get you? 😂 And the idea that it's all about the babies' comfort and enjoyment is so genius - I bet some people are going to cry (in a good way) during this show 💧. The mosquito nets with tulle fabric are such a cute touch too! 🌿

I just watched this adorable show with my toddler and it was SO refreshing! The idea that it's okay to let go and have a little mess is really important, you know? I mean, we're always told to be perfect parents, but honestly, being a parent can be overwhelming sometimes 😊. This show is like a big hug for new parents who are struggling to adjust. And the music is so soothing! 🎶 It's not just about entertaining the babies (although that's part of it 😉), but also giving caregivers a chance to relax and enjoy some quality time with their little ones. I'm definitely going to recommend this to all my parenting friends 👫

I think this show is so genius 🤩! Who says theatre has to be stuffy? Letting people just relax and have fun with little ones sounds like the perfect way to tackle parenting stress 😌. I can imagine it's a total game-changer for new parents, especially those who feel like they're drowning in baby duties 💦. And honestly, watching babies laugh & play on stage would be pure gold 🌟... anyone else thinking of getting tix? 👀

Umm yeah, I'm all about it, but only if you're going with a full-on messy rave vibe instead of this chill rain sounds thing 🤪. Can't we just turn up the noise and have some actual fun for once? Who needs soothing fabrics when you can have strobing lights and a fog machine?!

omg I'm so down for this show 🤩! as a new parent myself, it's crazy how much pressure there is to keep our little ones entertained all the time... like what even is that? 😂 anyway, having a space where parents can just chill with their babies sounds like a total game changer. I've been feeling so guilty for not being more present during my own baby's early days, but this show seems like it could totally help with that 🌱. and the idea of getting up close and personal with our tiny humans? yessss, let's do that! 😍

🌂️ I just heard about this show and its concept is literally genius 🤩! As a new parent myself (I have a little one who's only 3 months old), I can relate to how hard it is to balance caring for your baby with the rest of life 😬. This show sounds like exactly what I need – a space where I can relax and bond with my baby without all the stress 🙏. And I love that they're making it okay to be messy and imperfect, because let's face it, that's just part of parenting right now 🤷‍♀️! Anyone who's seen this show or has any thoughts about it should def come share their experiences 💬!

omg this is either the most genius or utterly messed up idea ever lol 🤯 like who lets infants attend a live performance with actors getting all up in them? I mean i guess its cool that its supposed to be super relaxed and fun for parents too, but idk if ill be okay with my tiny human face melting into some random strangers hands 🤷‍♀️. on the bright side its def gonna be a great way for new parents to unwind after those sleepless nights 😴. just hoping those mosquitoes nets dont bring any actual bugs tho 🐜

I'm so down for this show 🤩! As someone who's been there, done that with sleepless nights and diaper blowouts, I can appreciate the importance of finding some zen in parenting. The idea of a 'transition room' to unwind before the show is genius 🌱! And let's be real, watching babies giggling at rain-themed songs while playing with actors is basically the ultimate feel-good therapy session 😂. But what really gets me is how this show puts the spotlight on the babies and their care-givers – it's so refreshing to see that some people actually care about creating an experience that's not just for grown-ups 🌈!

omg i just found out about this show & it looks SO adorbs!!! 🤗 the idea of a whole performance space designed just for babies and their parents is literally genius 🧠 how cute are those mosquito nets filled with tulle fabric?? 💦 and the fact that the actors engage in playful interactions with the little ones is just the best way to bond & have fun together 😊 as a new mom myself, i can totally relate to the need for solace & relaxation while caring for my little one 🤯 this show sounds like a lifesaver (in the best possible way) 😉

omg u gotta see this new show 🤯 its literally like one big happy family... even if it is kinda weird 😂 i mean who wouldn't want to cuddle up with some baby while they're singing songs about rain? and the director is all about making sure the babies are having a safe & enjoyable time, so u can feel good about taking ur little one out 👶🏼♀️💕 plus its not like they're gonna judge u for bringing a sleeping baby to a show, lol 😂 its just a nice way to spend quality time with ur mini me 🌈

I'm low-key obsessed with this new show at Filament Theatre! It's so refreshing to see a space where parents can relax & enjoy time with their little ones without any fuss 🤩. I mean, who needs all that energy & noise when you can just chill with your baby amidst some soothing rain sounds? 😌 The fact that the actors are actually engaging with the babies is genius – it's like they're saying, "Hey, it's okay to be messy & imperfect!" 👶♀️💦 I'm definitely adding this to my bucket list for when I have kids! 🤰

omg I'm OBSESSED with this show concept 🤩🌂️ they're literally putting the needs of the little ones first and making a production that's all about comfort and joy! 💖️ it's like, so refreshing to see creators prioritize the youngest attendees' experience. And can we talk about how adorable those mosquito net droplets are? 🐝💧 I'm also loving the whole 'no boundaries' vibe between performer and audience - sounds like a total game-changer for new parents who need some stress relief. have you guys seen this show live or is it on your radar to check out? 🤔

I saw this show last month and it was literally the most chill thing I've ever seen 🤗. My little cousin has a sensitive stomach and we were both nervous about taking them to a crowded theater, but this production is designed with babies in mind - like, they actually prioritize their comfort over everything else! 😂 And the best part? It's not even a traditional show, you know? It's more like an immersive experience where everyone just kinda... lets loose 🌂. I loved how the performers played with the babies and made them feel so at ease. My cousin didn't even fuss once during the whole thing! 👶🏻👍

I just watched this performance and I have to say it's kinda mind-blowing how they've managed to turn a play into a whole sensory experience for the little ones. I mean, who needs fancy sets when you can just create an atmosphere of calmness and trust? It's like they're saying, "Hey, we know parenting can be overwhelming, so let's give parents a break and just focus on the tiny humans." And honestly, it works. The way the babies are able to relax and just be themselves in that space is really beautiful. I also love how the actors aren't trying to entertain the adults but rather the children - like, they're saying, "We know you're stressed out, but we've got this." 🌂💖

I'm low-key obsessed with this new show 🤯🎭! I mean, who wouldn't want to watch a bunch of adorable babies wailing and crying on stage while the actors just roll with it? 😂 It's like the ultimate form of surrendering to parenthood. I think it's genius how they're creating this safe space for new parents to just... be. No pressure, no expectations - just messy, beautiful chaos 💨👶. My only concern is whether it's a total sensory overload for everyone involved (I mean, babies don't exactly know what "quiet time" means 😂). Still, I'm all about supporting initiatives that promote self-care and community bonding. Kudos to Filament Theatre for pushing boundaries and making parents feel less alone! 👏

OMG, I'm loving this idea! 🤩 They're totally getting it right by putting the babies first - I mean, who doesn't want a relaxing show with gentle sounds and soft fabrics? It's like they finally figured out that we need more chill in our lives, especially when it comes to little humans. And I'm so down for the messy, playful vibe - let's be real, babies are just too adorable when they're getting all up close and personal with the actors. As a new parent myself, I can attest that it's hard enough trying to soothe those tiny humans, and this show sounds like it could really help with that. Kudos to Filament Theatre for creating something so innovative and fun! 👏

I think this is genius! 🤩 The way Filament Theatre has created a space for families to relax and bond over their little ones is truly innovative. By putting the focus on the baby's experience, they're not only providing solace for new parents but also challenging our traditional notions of theatre as a "performer-audience" dynamic. It's fascinating that they've managed to create this sense of intimacy and acceptance – I mean who doesn't love a good mess? 😂 The use of soft fabrics, rain sounds, and playful interactions is just the right amount of sensory stimulation. I can totally see how this show would be therapeutic for frazzled parents looking for some me-time... or rather, co-time with their tiny humans! 🤗

🤯 honestly what's next gonna be adults crying during a rom-com? i mean i get it parents need a break but this just feels like a money grab 🤑 and don't even get me started on the "transitional room" lol sounds like they took every cliche from a relaxation app 🧘‍♀️
