UN welcomes reopening of Gaza’s Rafah border with Egypt

UN welcomes reopening of Gaza's Rafah border with Egypt, but progress is slow.

The United Nations has welcomed the reopening of Gaza's Rafah border crossing with Egypt after Israel closed it for nearly two years. However, critics argue that this is a step too little, too late, given the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Only five patients among thousands of sick and wounded Palestinians have been able to leave for urgent medical care so far. The backlog of cases has raised concerns about the availability of healthcare services in the territory.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimates that over 8,000 Palestinians are in dire need of medical attention, with many facing life-threatening conditions due to lack of access to basic healthcare facilities.

The Israeli blockade of Gaza has had a devastating impact on the territory's economy and infrastructure. The prolonged closure of the Rafah crossing has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, further straining the already strained resources.

For the UN, this move is seen as an effort to alleviate some of the suffering in Gaza, but many question whether it addresses the root causes of the problem. With a fragile ceasefire holding for now, the international community must step up its efforts to find a sustainable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

As the situation on the ground remains volatile, calls for increased aid and support to Gaza have grown louder. The international community must continue to prioritize the needs of the Palestinian people and work towards a lasting peace in the region.

I don't think this is a big deal, tbh 🤔. Like, yeah, it's good that some people can get medical help now, but come on, 5 patients out of 8,000? That's not exactly a huge leap forward, if you ask me 💸. I mean, we've been hearing about Gaza's situation for years and what have we done so far? Not much 🤷‍♀️.

And let's be real, the Israeli blockade is still in place and it's not like the UN is doing enough to pressure Israel into lifting it 🚫. We need more than just a reopened border crossing to fix this mess, we need real change 💪.

🤕 I'm glad UN is welcoming this reopening but come on 5 patients out of 8000? It's like we're just patching holes in a sinking ship 🚢. We need to fix the root cause, not just band aid the symptoms. The Israeli blockade has been going on for too long and it's having a massive impact on Gaza's economy & infrastructure. They should've done this years ago! 💸 It's frustrating that we're still waiting for sustainable solutions to the conflict...let's get the international community on board & support Gaza ASAP 🤝

🤔 so much has been done yet so little seems to be changing 🌎 still 8000 ppl in dire need of medical attention & the rafah crossing is only just reopened after 2 yrs of being closed... it feels like the world is moving in slow motion 💨 can't help but wonder what's going on behind the scenes that's causing this progress to be so slow 🤐

🚨💔 another 2 yrs of isolation & suffering for Gazan ppl 🤯 can't believe it's only 5 patients who got out so far 🤷‍♂️ what's the point of reopening the border if nothin's changin' 🙄 8k ppl in dire need of medical help & still no one doin' enough 🚑🏥 meanwhile, israel just keepin' on with its business as usual 💼 total disregard for human life 🤕 gotta keep callin' out for more aid & support tho 💪

come on, 5 patients leave for med care after 2 yrs? that's like, woah, slow as molasses! 🐌 i mean, yeah, it's good they're trying but 8k ppl need help ASAP! what's the point of reopening the border if no one can get in or out? 🤷‍♂️ we need more than just a trickle of aid, we need a floodgate open! 💧 and btw, when are they gonna start addressing the root causes of the problem? like, forever? 😴

I'm so frustrated with all this 🤯... reopening Rafah border is a step in right direction, but it's like, where was it 2 years ago? 😔 We need more than just 5 patients to leave, we need thousands of people accessing proper healthcare 🏥💊. This isn't a game, people are dying over here 💀. And the economy, oh man... Gaza is in shambles 🤯. We can't just talk about 'sustainable solution' without taking concrete actions 📝. The international community needs to step up their aid and support ASAP ⏱️. Can't we all just get along? 🤝 #GazaDeservesBetter #UNshouldDoMore #PeaceNotWar

omg i'm so relieved that the rafah border is finally reopening!! it's been forever since those patients could get the help they need 🤞🏼💊 i mean, 5 patients is still a tiny number compared to 8k+ people who desperately need medical attention tho... 😔 but at least its something and not nothing 💕 i just wish the world would focus more on solving this conflict instead of just throwing some aid our way 🤝🌎 let's all try to be kinder and more supportive, okay? 🤗

idk how much of a help this reopening is gonna be, feels like we're just scratching the surface 🤔. 8k ppl need medical attention and only 5 have been able to leave? that's super slow progress. and what about all the others who are stuck in there with no healthcare facilities? it's like they're getting left behind... 🙄

OMG u no how stressful it is 2 see ppl stuck in gaza w/o access 2 basic healthcare 🤕🚑. UN welcoming reopening of Rafah border is like, yay i guess 👎 but its still SUPER slow progress 🔄. Only 5 patients out of thousands hav been able 2 leave 4 urgent medical care? That's like, what r they even doin w/ all those cases stuck in backlog 🤯.

It's so sad 2 hear about ppl facing life-threatening conditions due 2 lack of access 2 basic healthcare facilities 🚑💔. Israeli blockade has had major impact on gaza's economy & infrastructure, makin it even harder 4 people 2 get by 💸😩.

UN's move might help a lil but its not enuf,IMO 💁‍♀️. We need more aid & support 2 Gaza, ASAP! 🚨💖

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this Rafah border reopening 🤯... five patients? That's it? I mean, I know it's better than nothing, but it feels like too little, too late, you know? Back in my day, we used to talk about empathy and compassion more often. Now it seems like it's all about politics and who gets the blame 🤔. The Israeli blockade has been brutal, no doubt about it, but do we really think that one border crossing is gonna fix everything? I'm not saying it's a bad start, but let's be real, Gaza needs so much more than just a few Band-Aids 💉. We need to talk about the root causes of this conflict and find some real solutions, you know? It's all well and good to say "increased aid and support", but what's actually being done to address the issue? 🤷‍♀️

🤔 this is like, super slow progress, you feel? i mean, its been 2 yrs since israel closed that border and now only 5 patients have left for med care? 🚑💉 thats not exactly the kinda thing that makes u wanna shout "WE R makin PROGRESS!!! 🎉" nope... just a tiny drop in a super deep ocean. 🌊 gotta keep pushin 4 more! 💪

I don’t usually comment but... this whole situation is really messed up 🤕. I mean, reopening the Rafah border crossing is a good start, but 5 patients out of thousands of people needing medical help? That's not exactly a huge step forward 😐. And what about all those other Palestinians who are just waiting for help that never comes? It's like they're invisible 🙅‍♂️. I don't think the UN is doing enough to address the root cause of the problem, which is the Israeli blockade and the constant conflict in the region 💔. We need more than just a quick fix to solve this crisis 🤷‍♀️. The international community needs to do its part to support Gaza and find a sustainable solution to this conflict once and for all 💪.

I was just thinking about my cousin's birthday party last month and how I got lost in that crazy maze at the venue lol 🤣 anyway, back to Gaza... what's with the border closures, right? It's like, can't they just chill for a sec? 😂 on a more serious note, have you guys ever noticed how weird it is when people say "step up" in international politics? Like, what even does that mean? Should they be doing jumping jacks or something? 🤷‍♂️

🤔 this is such a sad situation...i feel bad thinking about all those ppl stuck in gaza with no access to proper healthcare 🚑💉 and economic opportunities are literally non existent 📈💸 meanwhile, we r still hearin bout israel's concerns about security 🤝 but isnt that just a fancy term 4 whats really happenin 😕? the root cause of this whole mess needs 2 b addressed ASAP 💡 & it cant be solved by just reopenin a border crossing 🌉🚪 newsflash: words dont pay bills 💸 and thousands more ppl r gonna die if we dont step up our game 🤯

Come on, 5 people and that's it? 🤯 I mean, I know we're talking about a serious humanitarian crisis here, but 8,000 people in dire need of medical attention is still 7,995 too many for me. It's like, how much more do they have to suffer before the world just steps in and says enough is enough? 🤷‍♂️ I'm not buying the "step too little, too late" thing here, it's just too early to say if this reopening is actually going to make a difference. Let's see some real numbers on that medical backlog and let's talk turkey. 💸

🤔 So it's good that Rafah is open now, but 5 patients out of thousands? That's super slow, right? 🕰️ I mean, I get that it's complicated with Israel and all, but come on, people are dying here! 💀 The UN needs to do more than just welcome this. They need to put some serious pressure on the parties involved to make a real difference. And what about the economic stuff? It's not just healthcare, it's the whole infrastructure thing... 🤯 How can they fix that in like, 5 minutes? 😂 I'm all for peace and aid, but we gotta be realistic here... 💸

I think the UN's welcome move is just a Band-Aid solution 🤕. I mean, five patients leave out of thousands? That's not exactly a floodgate of life-saving aid pouring in. It feels like more of the same old, same old – lip service while real change is nowhere to be found. The root cause of the problem is still there, just waiting for someone to address it. And honestly, who can blame Israel for being cautious? The security situation is always going to be volatile. But the UN needs to step up its game and bring some real pressure to the table to get a lasting peace agreement in place. Until then, we're just playing at war 🤖
