Van driver in Borough Park kills 84-year-old pedestrian, injures another, police say

Borough Park Tragedy Unfolds as Van Driver's Licenseless Move Claims Life of 84-Year-Old Pedestrian, Injures Another

A harrowing incident shook the streets of Borough Park on Wednesday evening when a 38-year-old Brooklyn man allegedly ran over an 84-year-old pedestrian and injured another, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.

According to police, Jose Ramirez was behind the wheel of a Ford Transit van at approximately 6:30 pm when he collided with Noach Klein, who was walking across 18th Avenue near 49th Street. Despite having the right-of-way, both men were outside the designated crosswalk. Miraculously, Klein crossed the street before being struck.

However, fate had other plans for Klein and a second victim, identified as a 54-year-old man. Both of them suffered severe injuries, forcing their immediate hospitalization at Maimonides Medical Center. Unfortunately, Klein succumbed to his wounds at the medical facility, leaving behind an untimely death that has shaken the community.

According to police reports, Ramirez remained on the scene and was arrested hours later for driving without a valid license. Further investigations revealed that he had been operating the vehicle in New York State without being registered or insured.

Ramirez's whereabouts were unclear, but it is known that he resides in Midwood. Unfortunately, his lawyer's contact information was not readily available.

Klein, an 84-year-old resident of South Williamsburg, had a storied past as the owner of a local silver shop just steps from the intersection where the incident occurred. A distraught family member answered the phone on Thursday but declined to comment due to emotional turmoil ahead of Klein's funeral.

The NYPD's collision investigation squad is still working diligently to unravel the circumstances surrounding the crash, which marks the fourth pedestrian death in the 66th Precinct this year alone, surpassing last year's total around the same time by two incidents.

I cant believe how reckless some people are driving around NYC ๐Ÿ™„. Like, come on Jose Ramirez, you're not even supposed to be behind the wheel and now you're gonna take a life? It's just so senseless ๐Ÿ˜”. I mean, what's going through your head when you're driving without a license? Do you not care about anyone else on the road? The fact that he didn't have insurance or was registered is just icing on the cake ๐Ÿฐ. Four pedestrian deaths already this year in the same precinct? It's like the city is trying to send out a message: slow down and pay attention! ๐Ÿ˜ก

This is so senseless ๐Ÿค•. I mean, can't people just be careful when they're walking? And what's up with this guy driving without a license? It's not like he was trying to help Noach Klein or anything ๐Ÿ˜’. I feel for the victim's family and all, but it's also on the other person to make sure their own life is in order before getting behind the wheel ๐Ÿš—.

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ just heard about that tragic accident in Borough Park and it's just heartbreaking ๐Ÿ˜”. Can you even imagine being out for a walk and BAM! You get hit by a van? 84 is way too young to leave this world ๐Ÿ’”. And to think, the driver was licenseless ๐Ÿšซ, no worries about him, but what about the lives of others on the road? It's just not right ๐Ÿ˜ก. We need to keep pushing for safer streets and better infrastructure for everyone ๐Ÿ‘. The 66th precinct needs to do more to prevent these accidents from happening in the first place ๐Ÿšจ. My thoughts are with Noach Klein's family and loved ones ๐Ÿ’•.

Man, I just can't believe what happened in Borough Park ๐Ÿค•. It's like, you've got to feel for that 84-year-old fella Noach Klein, right? He was just walking across the street, minding his own biz, and BAM! Next thing you know, he's fighting for his life ๐Ÿ’ฅ. But here's the thing, I'm trying not to be too down about it - maybe this is an opportunity for us to re-think our streets and make 'em safer for everyone? Like, we could install some better crosswalks or something ๐Ÿšง.

And yeah, the fact that Jose Ramirez didn't have a license is just crazy ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. But you know what? I don't think we should be too hard on him - maybe he's just having a tough time and needs a little help getting back on track ๐Ÿค. We've all been there, right?

Anyway, my heart goes out to Klein's family and the other guy who got hurt ๐Ÿ’•. Let's keep our fingers crossed that they're both gonna be okay ๐Ÿ‘Œ. And maybe, just maybe, we can turn this tragedy into something positive - like, a chance for us to come together as a community and make some real change ๐ŸŒˆ.

๐Ÿšจ This is just getting out of control... a van driver without a license running down pedestrians? What is going on here?! It's like people think they're above the law or something. I mean, we all know it's not just about being a bad driver, it's about accountability and safety. And what really gets me is that this guy had already been in trouble with his license before... so when does common sense kick in? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ The NYPD needs to step up their game here, especially since there have been 4 pedestrian deaths in the same precinct already this year... someone's gotta take responsibility for these reckless drivers! ๐Ÿ’”

OMG u can't even believe what happened in Borough Park ๐Ÿคฏ! An 84-yr-old man just lost his life to a licenseless van driver... like what's going on?! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I'm so sad for Noach Klein's family, he was a silver shop owner & had so much life left ๐Ÿ™. And the fact that the van driver didn't have insurance or registration is just insane! ๐Ÿšซ How can someone drive without any oversight? ๐Ÿ’ก The NYPD needs to get to the bottom of this ASAP! ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I'm so sad about what happened in Borough Park ๐Ÿค•... I mean, who drives without a license and just leaves people on the sidewalk? It's like they're not even thinking about other people's lives. The fact that this guy was speeding and didn't have his license doesn't excuse him from being reckless, you know?

But at the same time, I feel bad for Noach Klein's family... 84 is way too young to leave behind ๐Ÿ˜”. And what a shock that he wasn't even in a designated crosswalk! I mean, we all make mistakes, but this was just plain stupid.

I'm glad the cops are on it and trying to figure out how this happened ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ... but it's just another example of how cars can be so deadly on our streets. We need more safety measures in place and people need to take responsibility for their actions behind the wheel ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘€ I'm literally shook by this news ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. The stats are insane - 4 pedestrian deaths in one precinct already this year? ๐Ÿคฏ That's like 2 more than last year at the exact same time... what's going on here?! ๐Ÿ“Š We need to look into why licenses aren't being enforced properly and how we can improve those systems so this doesn't keep happening. The charts are screaming for answers - do we see a correlation between unlicensed drivers and pedestrian deaths? ๐Ÿ“ˆ

By the way, did you know that NYC sees over 200 million pedestrians per year?! ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ And about half of them are over 65... it's only logical to take extra precautions. We need to rethink our infrastructure and make sure there are more cameras, sensors, and safety measures in place.

Let's get real - accidents like this happen every day on our streets. It's time we invest in improving road safety and not just relying on luck or police enforcement alone ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’ก

man that's just so sad ๐Ÿค• ... i feel bad for noach klein and his family, they're really struggling right now ๐Ÿ’”... but can we talk about how we can prevent these kinds of accidents in the future? like, should there be designated crosswalks everywhere or something? it seems like both men were out of place on the street, and that's just not okay ๐Ÿšซ... and what's going on with our transportation system? why is this guy driving without a license in the first place? ๐Ÿค”... anyway, my heart goes out to noach's loved ones โค๏ธ

man I'm so bummed about what happened in Borough Park yesterday ๐Ÿค• that van driver didn't even have a license and he still managed to hurt two people like it was no big deal ... 84 years old can't be around forever, you know? Noach Klein might've been more than just an owner of a silver shop, maybe there were more stories behind him, but now he's gone for real ๐Ÿ’”. I hope the police find out what really went on and bring justice to his family ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. And that van driver, he should be locked up tight, no chance of parole ๐Ÿšซ.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฑ What's going on with these drivers out there?! I mean, come on! A licenseless van driver nearly takes another life and gets caught for it? It's just not right ๐Ÿ™„. And what really gets my goat is that this isn't even an isolated incident - we're already seeing a pattern of pedestrian deaths in the same precinct this year alone ๐Ÿ’”. We need to take action, like increasing enforcement and holding these reckless drivers accountable. I don't care if it's a tough law or not, something needs to change ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’ช

Man, can't believe what happened on 18th Ave last night ๐Ÿค•. Some driver just ran over an 84-yr-old guy and now he's gone for good ๐Ÿ˜ข. I'm still trying to process how some people can be so reckless behind the wheel ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ก. And it gets even worse when you find out they're driving without a license... how hard is that to get one, right? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ Anyway, my heart goes out to Klein's family and loved ones - this community just lost an amazing guy who was basically the heartbeat of our neighborhood ๐Ÿ‘. We need more awareness about pedestrian safety, especially in areas like Borough Park where it already feels like a war zone on wheels ๐Ÿ’ฅ.

๐Ÿค• I'm so sorry to hear about what happened in Borough Park. This accident is a huge shock and it's heartbreaking that an innocent life was lost. The driver's actions were reckless and inconsiderate, especially since he didn't have the right-of-way ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ก. It's just not worth risking people's lives like this. The fact that he didn't have a valid license or insurance makes it even more disturbing ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

I think we need to rethink our transportation systems and make sure drivers are held accountable for their actions on the road. More needs to be done to protect pedestrians, especially in areas with high foot traffic like Borough Park ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’”. The NYPD is doing a great job investigating this incident, but I hope they can find ways to prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

We need to come together as a community and support each other during difficult times like this โค๏ธ. Let's make sure that Noach Klein's memory lives on and we learn from his passing ๐Ÿ’ซ.

๐Ÿค• I donโ€™t usually comment but...this whole thing is just heartbreaking. An 84-year-old man goes to his own funeral? ๐Ÿคฏ I can only imagine how devastating that must be for his family and loved ones. And it's not like he was in a designated crosswalk, so there were no traffic lights to save him. It's just so senseless. The fact that the van driver didn't even have a license is just another layer of madness. What if someone else had been hit? ๐Ÿคž I hope Ramirez gets some serious charges for this and maybe a court date to think about what he did. ๐Ÿ˜”

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I just can't even... what kinda reckless behavior gets a driver to think they can just speed through a neighborhood without following traffic rules? Like, Jose Ramirez was driving without a license and no insurance, and he ends up killing an 84-year-old pedestrian?! ๐Ÿคฏ The least we can do is make sure that drivers are held accountable for their actions. I mean, what's next? No one gets caught or punished for putting lives at risk like this? ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’” We need to keep our streets safe and make sure everyone follows the rules, especially when it comes to driving!

Man... just when you think things can't get worse, some dude comes along and takes lives over a second guess on the road ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, we all make mistakes, but this is just senseless. 84 years old, minding his own biz, no need for drama. And now the city's got another one to worry about ๐Ÿ’”. Can't believe some people drive without licenses, it's like playing a game of Russian roulette ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’ฃ. We gotta do better, enforce those laws and make sure our streets are safe for everyone, especially seniors who can't be too careful out there ๐Ÿ™.

OMG u guys I cant even believe wat happend in Borough Park last nite ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿšจ that van driver was clearly out of control & had no license lol what kinda person drives a van without insurance or registration? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ anyway my heart goes out to Noach Klein's family his life was taken away 4 no reason @ all ๐Ÿ’” RIP ๐Ÿ‘Ž

Can't believe how careless some drivers can be ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. Licenseless and uninsured, just cruising around Brooklyn like it's no big deal. The thought of that 84-year-old man, Noach Klein, losing his life in such a senseless accident is heartbreaking ๐Ÿ’”. It makes me wonder what else could have been done to prevent this tragedy if the van driver had followed basic safety rules ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Now his family has to live with the pain of losing him, and another person's injuries will take a long time to heal โค๏ธ.
