Verizon may cut 15,000 jobs next week

Verizon Braces for Historic Job Cuts Amidst Intensifying Competition

In a move that could reverberate throughout the telecommunications industry, Verizon is reportedly set to slash approximately 15,000 jobs over the next week. According to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal, the cuts are part of a broader effort to trim costs as the company grapples with growing competition for wireless service and home internet customers.

Despite a mixed Q3 financial report, Verizon's leadership has signaled a willingness to undergo significant changes. The company's net income reached $5.1 billion in the third quarter, while most other metrics posted year-over-year growth. However, the telecom giant's postpaid wireless customer base declined by 7,000, a marked contrast to the 18,000 new customers gained during the same period last year.

CEO Dan Schulman has stated that the impending layoffs will be "bold and fiscally responsible" measures aimed at transforming Verizon's trajectory. While most of the planned cuts will take the form of layoffs, the company is also exploring ways to reduce its employee count by transitioning around 200 stores into franchise locations. The extent of these changes remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Verizon is facing a critical inflection point that necessitates drastic action.

OMG, 15k job cuts? That's just great for the economy 🤦‍♀️. I mean, who doesn't love seeing their friends and colleagues get the boot? It's like the ultimate productivity boost 💪. And hey, at least Verizon is being "bold" about it... aka making some big changes without really explaining what those changes are 💭. I'm sure it'll all work out in the end 🙄.

im worried about verizon's job cuts 🤕... 15k people losing their jobs is a big deal, especially during the holiday season when ppl need stability in their lives. i get that the telecom industry is competitive, but can't they find ways to reduce costs without hurting so many employees? 🤑 also, transitioning stores into franchise locations sounds like a good idea, hope it works out for them 💼

I'm low-key worried about these job cuts 🤕💼. I get that the telecom industry is super competitive and Verizon's gotta stay on top, but 15,000 people losing their jobs? That's like, a whole city 😱. It doesn't sound like they're gonna be able to replace those employees anytime soon, and it's gonna take a toll on their families too 🤝.

I also feel bad for the store closures - who's gonna get affected there? The employees who are already struggling? 😔 I'm all for change, but you gotta think about the human impact of these decisions, right?

I think this is a big deal for a lot of people 🤯. Like, I get it, companies gotta adapt and stay competitive, right? But 15,000 jobs? That's a huge number 🤕. It's not just about the employees who are losing their jobs, but also about the impact on their families and communities. And for what? To cut costs and make more money? I mean, I'm no economist, but it seems like there's gotta be a better way to do things 💸.

And have you thought about all the people who are going to be displaced from their homes because of these store closures 🏠? It's just not right. I know Verizon is trying to change its trajectory and all that, but can't they find ways to make money without hurting so many innocent people? 🤔

omg have you tried those new plant-based milk alternatives they're all so good 🥛 i just switched to oat milk and it's literally changed my morning routine no more worrying about cow milk lols anyway back to verizon... idk man 15k jobs are a big deal what's going on with the future of work tho is this gonna lead to more remote jobs or will companies start paying us in avocado toast 🤣

💼 Just read about Verizon's massive job cuts... feels like another casualty of the gig economy 🤯. Can't help but wonder what this means for their customers and the industry as a whole 📈. 15,000 people losing their jobs is no joke 💔. Hope they're able to find new opportunities soon 😊.

I'm like "what's goin' on with the big corps these days?" I mean, I've been seein' all these major job cuts and it's just weird, ya know? I remember when Verizon was still one of those big ol' phone companies that everyone used to get their signal from. Now they're tryna cut 15k jobs... that's like a whole lotta people losin' their gigs 😔. And it's not like they're the only ones doin' it, either - I heard AT&T and T-Mobile are lookin' at makin' some cuts too 🤯.

I guess what I'm sayin' is, the world's changed so much since I was a kid... we didn't even have smartphones back then 📱! Nowadays, you gotta stay on top of your game or get left behind. Verizon's just tryin' to adapt, I reckon. But still, 15k people losin' their jobs? That's a lot 💔.

I'm literally torn about this 🤯... on one hand, I feel bad for the people losing their jobs - it's not an easy thing to go through 🤕. But at the same time, I think Verizon needs to do this to stay relevant in a super competitive market 💻. I mean, 15,000 jobs might sound like a lot, but it's just a tiny fraction of the company's overall workforce... and if it means they can turn things around and bring back some profits, then I'm kinda cool with it 🤑. But on the other hand, what about all the people who are going to be affected by these changes? 😩... I guess that's why they say "it's a tough job market" 💼... anyway, I just hope the ones losing their jobs can find new opportunities soon 🤞.

man this is crazy lol they cant keep cutting corners forever u feel me? like verizon's on the right track trying to innovate & stuff but its not all about cutting costs 15k jobs is wild can imagine how dem employees r feelin 🤔 meanwhile competition's getting fierce with other carriers jumping into wireless game also dont even get me started on their wifi customers racking up losses 💸 hope dan's strategy pans out tho we need more innovation in telecom industry ASAP
