West Ham's plan to sell Paquetá and take him back on loan hits Flamengo resistance

West Ham's bid to offload Lucas Paquetá faces resistance from Flamengo, who are reluctant to loan the midfielder back due to concerns over a potential long-term purchase. The Brazilian, who has struggled to cope with life in England after allegations of spot-fixing, has grown disillusioned with his time at West Ham and wants to return to Brazil.

With the transfer window closing soon, West Ham is under pressure to solve the situation quickly. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo acknowledges that Paquetá's absence could be a major blow to the team, which is already struggling to stay in the Premier League. Losing Paquetá would condemn them to relegation, with the club currently seven points below 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.

The Brazilian midfielder has been at odds with West Ham since the Football Association's investigation into allegations of spot-fixing came to light last year. Despite being cleared of the charges, the episode has affected him emotionally and led him to express his desire to leave the club. Paquetá has even asked to be left out of some matches, citing a lack of support from the FA.

Selling Paquetá would boost West Ham's budget as they look for defensive reinforcements, but the dilemma remains whether holding on to the player is in their best interests. The club has not kept a clean sheet since August and is struggling to attract top talent due to financial constraints.

Meanwhile, Flamengo is prepared to raise its offer for Paquetá, which currently stands at around €40m, if West Ham includes an agreement for him to return on loan. However, the Brazilian club is hesitant to commit to a deal that could delay their purchase of the midfielder in the summer.

As West Ham navigates this difficult situation, they are also dealing with injury concerns and internal power struggles. Cole Palmer's thigh strain has raised questions about Chelsea's attack options, while Jamie Gittens and Liam Delap were unwell. The club is also considering a move for Filip Jorgensen, who is currently Chelsea's No 2 goalkeeper.

The stakes are high for West Ham as they try to address their defensive woes without Paquetá, who has been a key player for the team in his absence. With the transfer window closing soon, the club must make a decision quickly to avoid further relegation concerns.

I gotta say, I'm all for West Ham solving this issue ASAP 🤯. Losing Paquetá would be a huge blow, especially with their current form. But at the same time, I don't think they can afford to hold on to him just because he's been struggling with the whole spot-fixing thing... it's a tough call.

I mean, Flamengo is willing to offer €40m for him, and that's some serious cash 💸. If West Ham can get a good price for him, it could really help them sort out their finances and attract some top talent. But if they're gonna hold on to him just because of the drama, it might be holding them back.

I'm also worried about the injury concerns and internal power struggles 🤕. It's like, can they even focus on signing a new defender right now? I think West Ham needs to make a decision quickly, but also make sure they're doing what's best for the team in the long run... no pressure! 😬

omg i feel 4 west ham 🤕, dey need paquetá like now or dey gonna get relegated lol 💔. but on de other hand, Flamengo sounds like dey really wanna secure him permanently 😒. it's a tough spot 4 the hammers... maybe dem should consider sellin' other players 2 raise funds? 🤑👀

I feel bad for Lucas Paquetá, he's clearly having a rough time adjusting to life at West Ham 🤕. The allegations of spot-fixing are still fresh in his mind and it's affecting him emotionally. I get why he wants to leave the club, but selling him now might not be the best idea for West Ham either... they really need a solid midfielder like Paquetá right now ⚽️.

And yeah, Flamengo is being smart by trying to include an agreement for Paquetá's return on loan 🤝. It makes sense that they'd want to ensure they can finalize the deal in the summer. I hope West Ham can navigate this tricky situation quickly and make a decision soon... their season is literally hanging in the balance 🕰️.

man this west ham situation is getting messier by the day 🤯 i think west ham needs to be clear with flamengo about their intentions regarding paquetá they can't keep him on loan indefinitely and it's not fair to both parties if they're not serious about making a deal happen. meanwhile, flamengo should really consider buying him outright or else they'll just end up losing out again 🤑

I'm so worried about West Ham right now 🤕🏆 They're really struggling and it's hard to see them staying up in the Premier League without Paquetá on the pitch 🌟 He's been through some tough times here and I feel bad for him, but at the same time, they need a solid midfielder to help turn their season around 💪

I don't blame Flamengo for being hesitant about loaning Paquetá back - they want to make sure they can bring him in for real this summer 🕰️ And West Ham is just trying to hold on to someone who doesn't really seem happy here, so I think they're playing with fire 🔥 They need to figure out what's best for the team and for Paquetá, or it could get messy 💔
