Wi-Fi 8 is appearing at CES before most of us have switched to Wi-Fi 7

A major surprise emerged from the CES 2026 conference, where several top tech brands showcased their latest Wi-Fi 8 routers and chips. The news sent shockwaves through the industry, especially considering that most consumers are still getting used to Wi-Fi 7.

As expected, Wi-Fi 8 promises to revolutionize home networking by offering improved stability, higher speeds, and better power efficiency compared to its predecessor. Unlike Wi-Fi 7, which focused on speed upgrades, Wi-Fi 8 prioritizes reducing dropped connections and lag while maintaining seamless performance even when devices are moved around or further away from the router.

One notable example of this new technology is Asus's ROG NeoCore concept router, a sleek polyhedral design that boasts no antennas. Although it's just a prototype for now, the company claims that its production model will offer comparable speeds to Wi-Fi 7 but with higher throughput and lower latency.

Other major tech brands, including Broadcom and MediaTek, also announced their plans to integrate Wi-Fi 8 technology into their products. This includes residential routers, service provider gateways, enterprise access points, smartphones, laptops, TVs, and smart home devices.

While these new routers and chips are generating significant excitement in the industry, it's worth noting that the official IEEE 802.11bn specification for Wi-Fi 8 hasn't been finalized yet, with an expected ratification date of mid to late 2028. However, brands like Asus plan to launch their first Wi-Fi 8 products this year, using a draft version of the spec and planning for future firmware updates.

In a statement to The Verge, Kevin Robinson, CEO of the non-profit Wi-Fi Alliance, emphasized that the current Wi-Fi ecosystem is eager to explore the next generation of Wi-Fi technology. "What you are seeing at CES around Wi-Fi 8 reflects industry excitement for the next generation of Wi-Fi," he said.

In light of this development, those planning to upgrade their home networks in the near future may want to consider holding off until more details about Wi-Fi 8 become available.

๐Ÿค” The emergence of Wi-Fi 8 at CES 2026 is a significant milestone in the evolution of wireless networking tech ๐Ÿ“ˆ. With its focus on improving stability, reducing dropped connections, and maintaining seamless performance, it's exciting to see top brands like Asus and Broadcom jumping on board ๐Ÿš€. While the official spec hasn't been finalized yet, I think it's great that these companies are already pushing out draft versions and planning for future firmware updates ๐Ÿ’ป.

However, I do wish more emphasis was placed on the actual implementation and performance of Wi-Fi 8 in real-world scenarios ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. We've seen this trend before with new tech releases โ€“ all the hype but no substance ๐Ÿ“Š. Still, it's hard to deny the excitement around this new tech, especially for those planning to upgrade their home networks soon ๐Ÿ .

One thing I do hope is that the Wi-Fi Alliance will prioritize interoperability and backward compatibility when implementing Wi-Fi 8 ๐Ÿค. We don't want to see a fragmented ecosystem with devices only working together on certain frequencies or standards ๐Ÿ”’. With careful planning, Wi-Fi 8 could bring significant benefits to consumers, but we need to be cautious about the potential pitfalls too ๐Ÿ˜Š.

I'm low-key hyped for Wi-Fi 8 ๐Ÿคฏ! Like, I know it's still early days and stuff, but the speed and stability upgrades are def going to make a huge difference in my home network. And can you believe Asus is trying out no antennas on their new router? That's wild ๐Ÿ’ฅ! Of course, it's not all sunshine and rainbows โ€“ we gotta wait for the official spec to be finalized ๐Ÿ™. But I'm excited to see how these new routers and chips turn out. Maybe it'll give me a reason to upgrade my old laptop ๐Ÿ˜‚.

๐Ÿค” I gotta say, Wi-Fi 8 is giving me major hype! Faster speeds and less lag are always a good thing, especially with all the smart devices we're getting these days ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ’ป. But, at the same time, it's kinda weird that Wi-Fi 7 is still a thing... like, what's wrong with upgrading to the next gen already? ๐Ÿ˜… Still, I guess it's progress and all that ๐Ÿ’ธ. Can't wait to see how Asus's new router turns out - polyhedral design is straight fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ! And hopefully they can iron out some of those latency issues ASAP ๐Ÿคž

I'm a bit stoked that we're getting Wi-Fi 8 soon ๐Ÿคฉ. It's like, super important for gaming and streaming and all that jazz. I was skeptical at first when they said Wi-Fi 7 wasn't stable enough, but now it sounds like Wi-Fi 8 is gonna be a game changer ๐Ÿ’ป. The fact that Asus is working on a router with no antennas is mind blown ๐Ÿคฏ. It's just a shame we gotta wait 'til 2028 for the official spec to be finalized โฐ. I'm hoping those first Wi-Fi 8 products come out this year so I can get one ASAP ๐Ÿ“ฆ

๐Ÿคฏ just think about it guys, we're already moving towards Wi-Fi 8 ๐Ÿ“ˆ and people are still trying to get used to Wi-Fi 7 ๐Ÿ˜‚ what's next? Wi-Fi 9? ๐Ÿค” the tech industry is always evolving and I love how excited everyone is about this new gen tech ๐Ÿ’ฅ

omg I'm so hyped about wifi 8 already!!! i mean its cool that its focusing on stability and reducing dropped connections - my internet just keeps dropping lately and its so annoying ๐Ÿคฏ. but at the same time, is it really worth holding off until more info comes out? idk...i guess i'll just have to wait and see how these new routers and chips work out ๐Ÿ’ป. one thing thats for sure tho - asus's rog neo core concept router looks insane ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

OH MAN I AM SO STOKED TO SEE WI-FI 8 COMING OUT!!! ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ’ธ IT'S GOING TO REVOLUTIONIZE THE WAY WE CONNECT OUR DEVICES AT HOME, ESPECIALLY WITH THOSE DROPPED CONNECTIONS AND LAG ISSUES BEING A BANE OF OUR EXISTENCE!!! ๐Ÿ™„ THE FACT THAT ASUS IS WORKING ON A ROUTER WITHOUT ANTENNAS IS JUST MIND-BLOWING, LIKE WHO NEEDS ANTS WHEN YOU CAN HAVE SPEED AND POWER EFFICIENCY????? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

AND IT'S NOT JUST ASUS, BRO - OTHER MAJOR BRANDS ARE GETTING IN ON THE ACTION TOO, LIKE BROADCOM AND MEDTek. THIS MEANS WE'RE GOING TO SEE WI-FI 8 TECHNOLOGY IN ALL SORTS OF DEVICES, FROM SMARTHOME GADGETS TO LAPTOPS AND SMARTPHONES!!! ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ’ป

BUT YOU KNOW WHAT'S NOT EXCITING? THE FACT THAT THE IEEE SPECIFICATION ISN'T FINALLYIZED YET... ๐Ÿ˜ด I MEAN, COME ON, WI-FI ALLIANCE, GET IT TOGETHER ALREADY! ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿค” I'm kinda stoked about Wi-Fi 8, but like, we should've gotten it already ๐Ÿ™„. I mean, it's been a while since Wi-Fi 7 came out and now everyone's all hyped up for the next gen ๐Ÿš€. Still, I guess it's good that these big brands are investing in new tech ๐Ÿ’ธ. But I'm not sure if we should be waiting around until the specs get finalized ๐Ÿค. What's the point of upgrading just to have something new and then having to wait for updates anyway? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿค” just thinkin' about all these new routers and chips comin' out... seems like we're jumpin' straight from Wi-Fi 7 to Wi-Fi 8 ๐Ÿš€, which is kinda crazy when you consider how long it took for the tech to mature between each gen. anyway, i'm excited to see how this'll impact our daily lives, but at the same time, wonder if they've really thought through all the implications... like, will we just be upgrading from a minor speed bump to another "new and improved" version of the same thing ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ?

๐Ÿค” The thing that caught my attention is how companies are jumping on the Wi-Fi 8 bandwagon so quickly ๐Ÿš€. I mean, we're still getting used to Wi-Fi 7 and yet they're already hyping up its successor like it's going to revolutionize our lives ๐Ÿ’ป. It feels like a marketing hype more than an actual innovation ๐Ÿ“ˆ. And what's the rush? The spec isn't even finalized yet โฐ! I guess that just shows how much companies want to stay ahead of the game and make their products sound as cool as possible ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

I'm also a bit skeptical about these new routers being so flashy and design-focused ๐Ÿคช. I mean, sure, Asus's ROG NeoCore concept router looks sick ๐Ÿ”ฅ, but is it really necessary? Can't they just focus on making the technology more efficient and practical instead of trying to make it look Instagrammable ๐Ÿ“ธ?

Still, I guess it's exciting for tech enthusiasts like me who love staying up-to-date with the latest advancements ๐Ÿ’ป. And hey, if Wi-Fi 8 does live up to its promises, that'll be awesome ๐Ÿ˜„! But for now, I'm just going to keep a close eye on these developments and see what's really under the hood ๐Ÿ”.

๐Ÿค” I'm low-key hyped about Wi-Fi 8! Like, can you imagine seamless gaming and streaming without any dropped connections or lag? It sounds like a dream come true for tech enthusiasts! ๐Ÿ’ป As long as it's reliable and faster than Wi-Fi 7 (which was awesome in its own right), I'm all for upgrading. However, I do think it's wise to wait until more info becomes available... don't wanna be that person who upgrades and realizes they need another upgrade soon ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ“Š Anyway, Asus's ROG NeoCore concept router is giving me some serious Star Wars vibes ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’ฅ

omg can't believe we're already on Wi-Fi 8 ๐Ÿคฏ! i mean, it's still kinda crazy that people are only just getting used to Wi-Fi 7... anyway, this new tech sounds super promising - reduced dropped connections and lag is a total game-changer for home networking ๐Ÿ’ป. i'm also loving the idea of antennas being optional on routers - design-wise, Asus's ROG NeoCore concept is straight fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ! but yeah, it's worth keeping an eye on those dates - mid to late 2028 sounds like forever... and what if they hold off until after that? ๐Ÿค” might be better to wait a bit longer before upgrading ๐Ÿ’ธ

idk why people are getting so hyped about wi-fi 8 lol ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ it's just gonna make a tiny difference in our daily lives, right? like, we're still gonna get dropped connections and lag even with the new tech ๐Ÿ“ฑ. and what's up with no antennas on asus's router? is that really supposed to be an advantage or something? ๐Ÿค”

Yaaas, I'm low-key hyped for Wi-Fi 8! ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ’ป I mean, who doesn't love a stable connection and fast speeds? It's like, you know when you're streaming your fave show on Netflix and it's buffering... no thanks! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ But with Wi-Fi 8, that's just going to be a thing of the past. And Asus's ROG NeoCore concept router is giving me LIFE! ๐Ÿคฏ No antennas? That's next-level tech right there! ๐Ÿ‘ฝ I'm excited to see what other brands are gonna bring to the table too... like, Broadcom and MediaTek, yeah! ๐Ÿ’ธ But, for real, let's not forget that it's still a bit early days for Wi-Fi 8. Maybe we should chill on upgrading our networks just yet? ๐Ÿค”

omg did u guys hear abt CES 2026?? wifi 8 is finally coming!!! ๐Ÿš€ i'm so hyped like Asus's ROG NeoCore concept router is going to change the game no antennas tho? genius! ๐Ÿ’ก bBroadcom and MediaTek are also jumping on the bandwagon which means better speeds and lower latency for our fave devices. cant wait for the production models btw ๐Ÿคž but like u said its still a bit early to upgrade just yet. might wanna hold off till mid 2028 when the official spec is finalized ๐Ÿ’ฏ

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ I'm so stoked about Wi-Fi 8! It's about time we got some serious upgrades in our homes ๐Ÿ . The idea of reduced dropped connections and lag is a total game-changer for gamers and heavy internet users like me ๐ŸŽฎ. And no antennas on Asus's ROG NeoCore concept router? That's straight fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ! But can we talk about why it took so long to get here? Like, Wi-Fi 7 is still relatively new... shouldn't we be seeing Wi-Fi 9 by now? ๐Ÿค”
