Wikipedia Has Its Own Version of 'Wrapped' Now, But There's One Little Problem

Wikipedia's Year in Review: A Look at What We Read and Why

As the holiday season approaches, many popular apps and services are taking a cue from Spotify's Wrapped to provide users with personalized insights into their past year. This year, however, Wikipedia is breaking out its own version of this trend – but only for mobile app users.

If you're one of the 10% of Wikipedia users who download the app, now's the perfect time to do so. Once you've got it installed, you can dive into your own Wrapped-style review, complete with stats on how much time you spent reading articles, which topics you were most interested in, and even the number of articles you visited.

But that's not all – Wikipedia is also releasing platform-wide data, revealing some fascinating trends. This year, users spent a staggering 4.6 billion hours reading Wikipedia content, with English-language articles accounting for a whopping 2.4 billion of those hours. The site's volunteer editors worked tirelessly to make over 66 million edits in just one year.

The Wikimedia Foundation is also highlighting the most-read English-language articles of every month and the overall top article, which was Pope Leo XIV's biography – not only the most-read in May but also its fifth most-visited article of the year with 22 million page views.

Pop culture fans will be thrilled to see some beloved franchises making appearances on the list of most-read Wikipedia articles, including Marvel movies like The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Ryan Coogler's Sinners. However, it's not all fun and games – at the top spot is the article on serial killer Ed Gein, likely boosted by the Netflix series Monster: The Ed Gein Story.

Other notable mentions include Wikipedia's list of Deaths in 2025, which racked up an impressive 42 million page views, and Charlie Kirk's biographical article, which was the most-read Wikipedia page of the year with 44.9 million views. With all these numbers at your fingertips, it's clear that this year's been a wild ride for Wikipedia users – but only if you're one of the lucky ones who uses the mobile app!

I'm so curious about how much time people spend reading on Wikipedia each day 🤔. 4.6 billion hours is insane! That's like watching TV non-stop for over a year 📺. I wonder what kind of topics are most popular among kids these days? Are they still into dinosaurs and history or have their interests shifted to something else 🦖.

I also love how Wikipedia highlights the top articles, it's so cool to see which ones people are really interested in reading about 📰. I've always been a fan of learning new things, but I never knew my kids were getting so much info from Wikipedia too 😊. Maybe I should download their favorite app and check it out together 👀.

It's also amazing to think about all the volunteer editors who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the site running 🙏. Those people are the real MVPs! 👏

omg i had no idea wikipedia was on fire this year lol 4.6 billion hours spent reading wikitext is like, crazy talk and sinners makes it to the most-read list btw my fave ed gein article got like a million views last month guess that netflix show did its job 🤯📊

I'm loving how Wikipedia is giving us a peek into our own reading habits 📊😮 I mean, 4.6 billion hours spent reading Wikipedia content is insane! It's crazy to think about all those volunteer editors working behind the scenes to make it happen 💻. But what I find really interesting is how pop culture plays a role in shaping these numbers - I mean, who would've thought The Fantastic Four: First Steps would be one of the most-read articles? 🤣 And that Ed Gein article being at the top spot with the Netflix series boosting its views? It's like Wikipedia is mirroring our collective interests and conversations 💬.

💻📊 So Wikipedia's Year in Review is out and I'm already low-key impressed 🤯. 4.6 billion hours spent reading Wikipedia content? That's a whole lotta scrolling 😅! And to think, only 10% of users get access to the app - what about the rest of us? 🤔

English-language articles account for like, most of those hours... no wonder they have so many awesome content creators 💪. Ed Gein's article at the top spot? Yeah, that makes sense with the Netflix series 😂. But Charlie Kirk's biographical article getting 44.9 million views? That's some serious engagement 🤯!

The fact that Wikipedia has over 66 million edits in a year is just wild... I guess all those volunteer editors are like, dedicated or something 🙏. And Deaths in 2025 with 42 million page views? Omg, did we really lose that many people this year? 😱

I'm kinda curious, though - what does this data say about our collective interests and stuff? Like, how do these numbers reflect our cultural obsession with Marvel movies and serial killers? 🤔💡

I'm kinda surprised they didn't include desktop users in their Year in Review 🤔. I mean, I know not as many people use the mobile app, but it's still a huge part of Wikipedia's user base. And 42 million page views on Deaths in 2025 is wild 🤯, I was reading about that too and it's crazy how many people are interested in true crime stuff right now. And 44.9 million views on Charlie Kirk's article? That's like, a lot of attention for someone 😂. But you know what's even crazier? The fact that Pope Leo XIV's biography was the most-read article of the year 🤷‍♀️... I mean, who knew people were still interested in that guy 😜.
