Woman fatally stabbed at Upper Manhattan apartment building, police say man in custody

A woman in her 40s was found stabbed multiple times to death at an apartment building in Upper Manhattan early Monday morning. Police arrived at the scene, located on West 129th Street near St. Nicholas Terrace, around 4:30 a.m. and discovered the victim, who has not yet been identified by authorities.

According to eyewitnesses, emergency responders rushed her to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The police have taken a 47-year-old man into custody in connection with the crime, although no charges have been officially filed at this time.

One resident who lives in the building described the gruesome scene: "It was a lot of blood... Trails of blood, a big puddle... It's all over the place." The victim, believed to be in her 40s, is thought to have collapsed from her injuries before being discovered by residents.

The incident marks one other murder so far this year in the 26th Precinct area, which encompasses West Harlem and Morningside Heights. Meanwhile, citywide homicide rates are down 20% compared to the same period last year, according to NYPD data.

A small memorial outside the building where the woman was found stabbed has been set up for her as the investigation into her death continues.

omg this is so sad πŸ€• she deserves to be remembered not just a statistic 😒 my heart goes out to her family and loved ones. i cant even imagine living in an apartment building where such a thing happens it's like something out of a horror movie. anyway, lets just take a sec to pay our respects to the victim ❀️ can we all just send some positive vibes out for the community and the city πŸ™ and btw 20% down in homicide rates is kinda lit πŸ’₯ maybe this means its gonna be a safer year? 🀞

just heard about this on the news πŸ˜• so sad, another life lost in a violent way... it's crazy how quickly blood can spread and make a scene like that, i guess it's just not safe to be around anymore 🚨 anyway, 20% less citywide homicides is a good sign, but still way too many people getting hurt or killed πŸ˜” hope the police catch this guy and bring some justice to the victim's family πŸ’ͺ

😞 this is just so sad. I mean, imagine waking up and someone is lying in your hallway covered in blood... it's just terrifying. 🚨 I'm all for keeping NYC safe, but these crimes are getting more and more brazen by the day. 🀯 20% less homicide rate sounds like good news, but at what cost? πŸ™ Those poor residents who found her body must've been traumatized for life... no one deserves to die like that πŸ’”

Man, this is just so sad πŸ˜”. I mean, you'd think that we're making progress in reducing crime rates and all that jazz, but it's still crazy out there. 20% down from last year is something, I guess? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ But at the same time, one murder in an entire precinct just feels like too much, you know?

I'm also kinda curious about how this guy was taken into custody so quickly. Did they have any witnesses or something that led them to him? And what's the deal with the memorial outside the building? It's nice that people are showing respect for the victim and all, but it's just a reminder that this is real life we're talking about... πŸ’”

It's crazy how quickly things can go from good to bad. I mean, one minute you're walking down the street, the next minute you're stabbing someone in the back (no pun intended) πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Anyway, my thoughts are with the victim and her loved ones... may she rest in peace πŸ’–.

I'm so sorry to hear about this tragic incident πŸ’”πŸ•ŠοΈ... it's just devastating to think of a life cut short like that πŸ€•... my heart goes out to the victim's loved ones and friends who must be going through this unimaginable pain 😩... 47 is way too young for something like this to happen, you know? πŸ™... I'm glad that emergency responders were there so quickly to try and save her πŸš‘πŸ’¨... but it's just not fair that we have to live with the reality of senseless violence in our communities πŸ’”πŸŒŽ... can't we all just find a way to get along and live in peace? 🀞

Man, this is really sad news πŸ€•... I mean, I'm glad the police were able to catch the guy, but 47% down? How does that even work? You gotta take a life away from someone, and then just add some percentage on top of it? It's like they're counting bodies or something. And what's with the delay in charging him? Can't they just throw the book at him already?

And I feel bad for the family of this poor woman... she was just trying to live her life, you know? It's not fair that she had to go through this. A memorial outside the building is a good start, but it's still gonna be tough for everyone involved.

I guess what I'm saying is, we need to stay vigilant and make sure these kinds of things don't happen in the first place. We gotta look out for each other and report any suspicious activity. Can't just sit back and wait for something like this to happen...
