WSL: Has England winning Euro 2025 impacted domestic women's football?

The success of England's women's team at the Euro 2025 tournament has had a relatively muted impact on domestic women's football in England, with attendances and growth showing a slight decline. According to recent data, average WSL attendances have risen to nearly 6,500 fans per game this season, but still lag behind what is seen in men's Premier League matches.

While there are indications that some clubs, such as Arsenal, are making strides in growing their fanbase and increasing attendance figures through targeted strategies, the overall impact of England's Euro triumph on domestic women's football remains uncertain.

In terms of club-specific successes, Arsenal has made significant progress in increasing its Emirates Stadium home capacity to accommodate WSL matches, while Manchester United has seen a surge in attendance for its recent games at Leigh Sports Village. Other clubs are also exploring new ways to boost attendances, such as moving their WSL home games to the same stadium used by the men's team.

Despite this progress, there is still concern about lower-tier women's football, where the growth of professionalism has led to complaints about players having to use men's boots, which have been linked to a spate of serious knee ligament injuries in the league. To address these issues, sportswear giant Nike has announced plans to provide free boots for WSL and WSL2 players.

At grassroots level, women's football is experiencing significant growth, with Sport England revealing that 835,000 girls regularly play the sport, a rise of 165,000 compared to 2017.

idk what's goin on here... i mean, england's women's team does great and all but it doesn't seem like it's having the impact we'd expect on domestic womens' footy πŸ€”. like, attendances are up slightly but still lag behind mens' premier league matches? that seems a bit weird to me.

i think its cool that some clubs like arsenal are tryin to grow their fanbase but whats the point if they're not gettin more people in the stadium? 🎟️ i also wonder why nike is chippin in with free boots for womens' teams... isn't it just basic equipment? shouldn't be a big deal, but idk maybe thats just me πŸ˜’

anywayz, its good to hear that grassroots womens' footy is growin tho! 835k girls playin the sport now? that's amazing 🀩. hope more clubs and orgs can follow suit and support lower-tier teams πŸ‘

I'm stoked to see that grassroots women's football is killing it in England, with more and more young girls getting into the game 🀩! However, I think we need to get our priorities straight when it comes to supporting top-tier WSL teams - those stadiums are still way too empty compared to men's matches. I mean, Arsenal just increased their Emirates Stadium capacity for WSL matches, but what about the smaller clubs? They could use a bit more love and support πŸš€.

And can we talk about Nike's new initiative to provide free boots for all WSL & WSL2 players? That's pure genius πŸ’ͺ! No one should have to suffer from knee ligament injuries because of outdated equipment. It's time for the sports industry to step up its game and prioritize women's football πŸ†.

😊 I think this whole thing just goes to show how tough it can be to inspire people in sports, even when you've had an amazing success on the big stage! England's women's team winning Euro 2025 was supposed to be a huge boost for domestic women's football, but instead we're seeing some pretty low attendances at WSL matches. It makes me wonder if there's something more systemic going on here - like, are clubs not giving enough priority to promoting their WSL teams? πŸ€” And I mean, don't get me wrong, it's awesome that Arsenal is making strides and stuff, but we need to keep pushing for growth and investment in women's football. The Nike move with free boots is a great start, though! πŸ‘ We gotta take care of our girls' sports equipment - literally and figuratively! πŸ’ͺ

omg can't believe the impact of the Euro win isn't trickling down more πŸ€”... it's all well and good they're doing great, but what about us clubs that are actually trying to grow our fanbase? like i mean i'm seeing some big strides from arsenal and man utd, but not everyone is as lucky 😐... and don't even get me started on those injuries from using men's boots πŸ€• seriously though, sportswear companies need to step up and provide better gear for the ladies πŸ’–

OMG u no w how cool it would b if more ppl @tended womens footy games lol its like they're literally ignoring the fact that women's leagues r killing it just cuz its not as popular rn idk wut's goin on but Nike doin da right t hing by providin free boots 4 all WSL & WSL2 players hopefully more clubs follow suit n increase attendance figures πŸ€”πŸ‘Ÿ

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how much I missed out on when it comes to women's sports back in my day 🀯. I mean, don't get me wrong, we had some great female players like David Beckham's ex-wife Victoria πŸ™ƒ, but it was all about the men's games. Now, with the Euro 2025 win and all, I'm expecting a lot more excitement and growth in women's football... especially with these newer clubs trying out new strategies 😊. But seriously, those Nike boots for WSL players are a game-changer – can't imagine how frustrating it must be to play in something that doesn't fit right πŸ€•. On a positive note, I heard grassroots levels are seeing some amazing growth, which is super encouraging πŸ‘. We're not there yet, but I'm optimistic we'll get there soon!

πŸ€” I'm glad to see women's football getting more recognition and support in England, but it's a bit underwhelming for me - I mean, we're talking about the team that just won Euro 2025, and our domestic league isn't exactly seeing a huge surge in attendances? It's like, I get that building a fanbase takes time, but 6,500 fans per game is still pretty low compared to the men's Premier League. Plus, some clubs are doing okay, like Arsenal, but what about the rest?

And don't even get me started on the Nike thing - free boots for all WSL and WSL2 players? That's a nice start, I guess, but it feels like a band-aid solution to a bigger problem. Those knee ligament injuries are no joke, and we need more than just shoes to fix that issue.

But hey, at least the grassroots level is seeing some growth - 835,000 girls playing women's football is awesome! We're in the right direction, but let's keep pushing for better support and resources for our domestic league. πŸ™

I dont think its fair that Womens Premier League matches are stillnt getting the same attention as Mens games πŸ€”. I mean, we just watched some amazing football at Euro 2025 and its kinda surprising that people werent flocking to the stadiums to see the likes of Steph Houghton and Ellen White in action 😐. Some clubs like Arsenal r doing ok, but its still not the same as having a huge crowd cheering u on πŸŽ‰. And im all for womens football getting more support, but we need to do better than just talking about it πŸ’¬

yeah i feel like englands women's team winning euro 2025 was kinda expected lol they've been doing well for years now... but idk maybe it didn't have as big an impact on domestic womens football as ppl thought? i mean attendance numbers are up, but still not that high compared to men's matches πŸ€”

OMG, I'm still on cloud nine after that Euro win 🀩, but now I'm feeling kinda meh about how it's not having as big an impact on domestic women's football here in England πŸ€”... I mean, don't get me wrong, 6,500 fans is a great number and all, but compared to the men's Premier League matches? not so much 😐. And I'm loving that Arsenal is making moves with their new stadium setup πŸ’ͺ, maybe it'll inspire other clubs to follow suit? Fingers crossed for more growth at grassroots level tho 🌱, 835k girls playing soccer in England is a huge deal! πŸŽ‰

omg yessss πŸ™Œ it's so amazing to see all these clubs making efforts to boost attendances at WSL matches! like arseneenal's new stadium capacity is a huge win for the league πŸ’ͺ and i love that nike is stepping up with those free boots 🎯 they're really making a difference for the lower-tier players, esp with the knee ligament injuries 😬 can't wait to see more grassroots growth too πŸ‘§πŸ’š
