Yoweri Museveni wins Ugandan election as opponent condemns 'fake result'

I'm not surprised about Museveni winning again... 40 years is a looong time for any leader, you know? It's like, what even is democracy if not a cycle of power passing from one person to another every few years? But seriously, it's concerning that Bobi Wine accused security forces of messing with the election. Those allegations could be legit... 70% of the vote might be high, but you never know how many votes were rigged or whatnot . And can we talk about how outdated our whole democracy system is? Like, who needs a simple majority when you can just extend your term indefinitely like Museveni does? It's all very... interesting from an outsider's perspective, for sure. But for Ugandans and other Africans, it's probably more than just a news headline

OMG so Museveni won again but like Bobi Wine is totally not happy about it and I get why - 40 yrs in power? that's insane! he's been accused of all this corruption stuff and suppressing opposition, which is super problematic . The US and EU are all like "hey dude be nice" but at the same time, they're not doing much about it either .

And can we talk about how Ugandan ppl feel about this? do they actually trust Museveni anymore or is he still seen as a stability figure? I don't know man, it's all so messed up . Anyway, I'm low-key rooting for Bobi Wine and his music btw

omg did u hear about uganda's election results? Museveni won 7th term with 70% of vote lol what even is that? sounds like he's got some serious grip on power anyway, i feel bad for bobi wine his opponent who's claiming widespread fraud and getting harassed by security forces wearing a flak jacket like he's in a movie meanwhile, usa & eu are all like "respect the election" but it's hard to take them seriously when they've been supporting museveni's rule for years anyway, i guess this is a big deal for africa and democracy and stuff... 40 yrs of rule? that's like, a whole lotta power

idk about uganda's election ... so museveni won but like bobi wine is all upset ... what even happens if you win an election and people still think it was rigged? did they at least have a peaceful transfer of power tho? i mean, 40 years in office is like forever lol i wish we could know more about what life's like in uganda ... does anyone have a friend from there?

I'm reading about this election and I just can't believe Museveni got away with it lol . 70% is crazy high! But then again, people are saying his opponent's claims aren't entirely off base either . Those internet shutdowns were super suspicious and the whole biometric voter ID machine thing was a total disaster . I mean, who needs technology to mess up elections like that? It's just too much to handle .

And what's with all these allegations of security forces being all rough on Wine and his supporters? Like, can't they just have a peaceful transfer of power? . The EU and US are saying the right things, but it feels like nothing is being done about it . I'm still trying to wrap my head around how Uganda's been without a peaceful transition in 60 years though... that's wild . Museveni's got some serious explaining to do .
