2 hurt as small plane veers off runway near Downers Grove

Two people were injured in a small plane crash near Downers Grove on Friday afternoon after the single-engine aircraft veered off the runway and crashed into a backyard, according to authorities.

The accident occurred shortly before noon when the pilot lost control of the Cessna 195 as it attempted a landing at the Brookeridge Airpark. Witnesses reported that the plane rolled over and came to rest in a residential area. Thankfully, both occupants were able to exit the aircraft under their own power and received medical attention.

The proximity of the airpark to nearby homes poses significant safety concerns, with runways surrounded by hangars attached to properties that primarily belong to homeowners. "It's a very unique situation," said Dave Rutter, board president of Brookeridge Aero Associates Inc., which owns and operates the airpark near the Carriage Greens Country Club.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident, which resulted in significant damage to the aircraft. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, but the accident serves as a reminder of the importance of strict safety protocols and precautions when operating aircraft.

OMG 😱 I'm like totally shocked that this happened near my fave airport πŸ›«οΈ I mean, I've heard of planes taking off and landing at weird times before, but crashing into backyards? That's just crazy! 🀯 I'm glad the pilot was able to keep himself and passenger safe though, fingers crossed they're doing alright πŸ’•

I also feel bad for all those neighbors who had to deal with this drama. I mean, can you imagine waking up to find a plane in your yard?! 😱 It's like something out of a movie or something! πŸŽ₯

Anyway, I hope the FAA gets to the bottom of this and makes some changes to prevent it from happening again. Like, come on pilots! We know there are rules for flying for a reason πŸ™„

Ugh, great, just what I needed, another reason to be annoyed with the FAA πŸ™„... like they're not busy enough already. Small planes crashing into backyards is a recipe for disaster - who lets these things operate in residential areas?! I mean, I get it, accidents happen, but come on! The fact that both occupants walked away from this crash without serious injury is just a testament to how lucky we are 🀞... I guess we should all be thankful that the plane didn't crash into the nearest Starbucks β˜•οΈ. Anyway, I'm surprised no one lost their minds or reported seeing aliens in the wreckage πŸ˜‚... just your run-of-the-mill, small-plane-crashing-into-a-backyard drama πŸ‘€.

πŸ€• I'm so glad those two people are okay! But seriously, can't we do better than having an airpark right next to residential areas? 🚫 It's just not worth the risk. I mean, what if it was a busy Saturday afternoon and people were trying to get out of their houses? The thought of all that chaos is giving me anxiety 😬. We need to make sure we're doing everything in our power to prevent something like this from happening again. And what's with these single-engine aircraft not being designed with safety in mind? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Just a bunch of pilot error, maybe, but still... 😬

can u believe this guy lost control of his plane mid landing? i mean i get it accidents happen but brokeridge airpark is literally right next to residential areas... how do they even get away with that kinda setup? 🀯😱 i'm all for private planes and all but safety first, you know? 🚨 the faa's gotta step in here and make some changes ASAP. and what's up with homeowners having hangars attached to their properties anyway? seems like a recipe for disaster 😳

omg 🀯 I'm just sitting here thinking about this plane crash and how crazy it is that it happened so close to residential areas! like, what if one of those hangars was literally right next door to someone's house? 😱 the FAA has gotta get on top of this ASAP because safety first, ya know? 🚨 I mean, don't even get me started on the layout of airparks – it's all about balance between accessibility and protection. this whole thing is just a huge reminder that we need to be super vigilant when it comes to aviation safety! πŸ‘

I'm totally fine with small planes just crashing into backyards whenever they want πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, what's a few broken windows and a destroyed lawn between friends? The fact that there are homes surrounding the airpark is just a bonus – it's like having an urban obstacle course! And let's be real, the FAA can't do much about it anyway, right? They're always so slow to respond to emergencies. I'm sure they'll find something super technical and boring to blame the pilot for πŸ™„.

omg, can you even imagine being so close to having your whole house destroyed by a plane crash? 🀯 i mean, i get it, accidents happen, but brookeridge airpark needs major renovations ASAP. they need to figure out how to make those runways safer for pilots and homeowners alike. it's just not fair that people have to worry about their homes being damaged every time someone flies in.

and what's with the FAA investigating this? shouldn't they be doing more to prevent these kinds of accidents from happening in the first place? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ i know, i know, safety is always a top priority, but come on, can't we do better than this?

anyway, glad that both occupants were okay, but still, it's just so sad. those poor people who live nearby must be freaking out right now πŸŒͺ️

I don't get why ppl are makin a big deal 'bout dis small plane crash πŸ™„. Two people got hurt, big whoop! It's not like they died or anythin'. And let's be real, the airpark's near homes is nothin' new, it's just part of the country livin' experience. People should be more concerned about those crazy drones flyin around our neighborhoods than some small plane crash πŸ˜‚. And what's with the FAA investigatin'? Like they're gonna find out somethin' we don't know already πŸ€”? It's just another day, another near-miss...

omg this is crazy! 🀯 how can a plane just veer off the runway & crash into a backyard? like, what was going on in that cockpit?! 😱 did the pilot have any experience with single-engine planes? πŸ€” also, i'm kinda worried about those nearby homes... shouldn't there be more safety measures in place around the airpark? πŸ πŸ›©οΈ i mean, i get it, accidents happen but this is just so close to a residential area! 😬 what's being done to prevent similar incidents in the future? 🀝

I'm like totally surprised they didn't crash into a house! Like, what's more likely to happen right? I mean, I've seen those plane thingies do some crazy stuff on TV before 🀯. And yeah, it's weird that the pilot just lost control out of nowhere... or maybe they were trying to make a dramatic entrance πŸ˜‚.

The FAA investigating this? Please, by all means, take your time and scrutinize every little detail. I'm sure we don't want to rush into conclusions about how to improve safety around airparks πŸ™„. And what's the harm in having some hangars on residential properties, anyway? It's not like people are going to start storing planes in their backyards or anything... oh wait, that does sound kinda awesome πŸ’₯!

OMG, can you even imagine the horror?! 🀯 This plane crash near Downers Grove is like something out of a movie! The fact that it veered off the runway and landed in a backyard is just crazy! I mean, what's going through your mind when you're flying and suddenly everything goes wrong? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

And yaaas, safety protocols are EVERYTHING, especially near residential areas. I don't think we should be surprised that this incident happened, though – it's not like the airpark is designed with safety in mind πŸ™„. The FAA needs to seriously reevaluate their priorities and make sure something like this doesn't happen again.

It's also wild to think about how close the occupants came to disaster... I mean, they were able to get out of the plane on their own power, which is a huge miracle! But still, it's a good reminder to be vigilant when flying 🚨. And can we talk about the damage to the aircraft for a sec? That's some serious cash 😬.

omg did u hear about that plane crash in downers grove? 🀯 like what if it was someone's fam or pet in the backyard?! 😱 i mean i know ppl love flying but come on, safety first, ya know? πŸ™ and brookeridge airpark is literally in a residential area which is super weird...i remember reading about that place years ago and they just kinda built it there...i don't get how that works πŸ€”. anyway, glad no one was seriously hurt but yeah, gotta be more careful with them planes 🚨

Ugh, can't believe this happened again 🀯... like what's going on with these airparks? They're always so close to residential areas, it's just crazy! I remember when my dad used to fly his old plane at a nearby airfield and we'd have to be super careful not to disturb the neighbors. Nowadays, it seems like the FAA is more focused on commercial planes than small aircraft... what happened to the good ol' days when flying was all about adventure and safety? πŸ˜” Anyway, glad no one was seriously hurt, but still, can't help thinking that this could've been so much worse πŸ’”

man... this is so crazy! 🀯 one minute you're chillin' on the runway, next minute you're crashing into some backyard lol what's wrong with planes these days? 😬 they should really do more checks before taking off, especially in areas with residential properties nearby. I mean, can't imagine being in that pilot's shoes, trying to land and losing control like that... anyway, glad everyone got out okay! πŸ™ hope the pilots are doing alright too. FAA should definitely look into this, it's just not safe having airparks so close to homes. πŸ˜’

🚨😬 Can you even imagine your kid playing outside and seeing this plane crash into their backyard? It's a nightmare come true for parents! I mean, yes we know the pilot was lucky to get out alive but what about all those homes with kids around who could've been hurt? The fact that the FAA is investigating is just common sense - we need stricter safety protocols in place. And what's with these private airparks just popping up next to residential areas? It's just not right 🀯. As a parent, it's hard enough worrying about your kid getting hurt playing outside, let alone by some random plane crash 😩.

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ yeah, i mean, glad nobody was super seriously hurt or anything... but seriously, how does this airpark even get away with being so close to residential areas? πŸ€” it's like they're just winging it (pun intended)... the FAA should really look into why that pilot lost control in the first place, was it something about the plane or was it just a case of pilot error? 🚨 also, what kind of safety protocols are we even talking about here? I mean, have you seen those runways? they're like tiny little strips of land... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
