Tornadoes Tear Through Plum Grove Area in Liberty County, Texas, During Severe Weather
Two tornadoes touched down in the Plum Grove area of Liberty County, Texas, on Tuesday during severe weather, according to a confirmation from the National Weather Service (NWS). The storms brought heavy debris and damage to several properties in the region.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing trees and power lines come crashing down as the tornadoes tore through the area. Investigators used a drone to assess the damage, finding broken pine trunks and branches in a wooded area, as well as downed fencing. However, the poles supporting the power lines remained standing.
The NWS confirmed that two separate tornadoes formed from the same storm system, with one touching down approximately 5,000 feet away from the other near Farm to Market 1010 and Wooden Lane. The first tornado was short-lived, lasting less than a minute and reaching wind speeds of up to 80 miles per hour. In contrast, the second tornado stretched for over 1.5 miles, with peak winds reaching up to 85 miles per hour.
The Enhanced Fujita Scale (EF-0) rated both tornadoes as preliminary EF-0 ratings, indicating minimal damage. However, the severe weather caused significant disruption in the area, particularly in the Bella Vista subdivision, where several metal structures and trees were damaged.
The Liberty County area experienced heavy debris, with SkyEye capturing images of scattered destruction throughout the day on Wednesday morning. As investigators continue to assess the damage, residents are left to pick up the pieces and recover from the devastating impact of these two tornadoes that tore through their community.
