State Football Quarterfinals: Top Teams Advance to Semifinals
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) hosted its state football quarterfinals, with many top teams emerging victorious. The wins will pave the way for these squads to compete in the semifinals.
In Class 8A, Mount Carmel dominated their opponents, with a 48-7 victory over Lincoln-Way East and a 35-0 thrashing of Barrington. Fremd also made a statement, downing Bolingbrook 34-33 and Oswego 24-21 en route to the semifinals.
In Class 7A, St. Rita outperformed Hersey 56-42 and Glenbard North 27-21, while Batavia edged Lincoln-Way West 10-28 but ultimately claimed the win with a semifinal spot against St. Rita. Downers Grove North also advanced to the semis after downing Lincoln-Way West.
Class 6A saw Fenwick triumph over Burlington Central 49-21 and Nazareth 24-21, while East St. Louis outpaced Simeon 49-0 and St. Laurence 28-14 en route to their semifinal matchups against Fenwick and East St. Louis.
The quarterfinals also witnessed wins for Providence in Class 5A over Washington, Ill., 39-6 and Oak Forest over Peoria 34-20, setting up a rematch between these two teams in the semis.

The Class 3A quarterfinals saw Richmond-Burton top Monmouth-Roseville 31-6 and Byron outscored IC Catholic 28-6. Tolono Unity also claimed an upset victory over Williamsville, while St. Joseph-Ogden edged Vandalia 38-24 to secure their spot in the semis.
