State Football Quarterfinals: Top Teams Advance to Semifinals
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) hosted its state football quarterfinals, with many top teams emerging victorious. The wins will pave the way for these squads to compete in the semifinals.
In Class 8A, Mount Carmel dominated their opponents, with a 48-7 victory over Lincoln-Way East and a 35-0 thrashing of Barrington. Fremd also made a statement, downing Bolingbrook 34-33 and Oswego 24-21 en route to the semifinals.
In Class 7A, St. Rita outperformed Hersey 56-42 and Glenbard North 27-21, while Batavia edged Lincoln-Way West 10-28 but ultimately claimed the win with a semifinal spot against St. Rita. Downers Grove North also advanced to the semis after downing Lincoln-Way West.
Class 6A saw Fenwick triumph over Burlington Central 49-21 and Nazareth 24-21, while East St. Louis outpaced Simeon 49-0 and St. Laurence 28-14 en route to their semifinal matchups against Fenwick and East St. Louis.
The quarterfinals also witnessed wins for Providence in Class 5A over Washington, Ill., 39-6 and Oak Forest over Peoria 34-20, setting up a rematch between these two teams in the semis.
In Class 4A, Montini cruised past Coal City 35-0 and Morris edged Geneseo 28-26 while Breese Central dismantled Cahokia 36-12. Meanwhile, Rochester defeated Sacred Heart-Griffin 41-35, setting up a matchup with Breese Central in the semis.
The Class 3A quarterfinals saw Richmond-Burton top Monmouth-Roseville 31-6 and Byron outscored IC Catholic 28-6. Tolono Unity also claimed an upset victory over Williamsville, while St. Joseph-Ogden edged Vandalia 38-24 to secure their spot in the semis.
Wilmington emerged victorious in Class 2A after dispatching Tri-Valley 49-7 and Maroa-Forsyth downed Flora 48-12. Meanwhile, El Paso-Gridley outpaced Farmington 32-15 and Arthur-Lovington defeated Westville 42-3 to reach the semis.
Finally, in Class 1A, Stockton bested Dwight 44-0 while Lena-Winslow toppled Annawan-Wethersfield 42-20. Brown County emerged as a surprise team after defeating Carrollton 37-13 and Calhoun claimed their spot in the semifinals with a narrow win over Casey-Westfield.

what position is he tho? looks like a mix of running back and wide receiver or something 
! I'm loving how some of these teams are dominating their opponents - Mount Carmel and Fremd are on fire in Class 8A 
! But I'm also seeing a lot of upsets happening, like Tolono Unity taking down Williamsville. You never know what's gonna happen in football, right? 
! And some of these semifinal matchups are looking really intense... East St. Louis vs Fenwick is gonna be a wild ride

I'm pretty sure that's just how it works but still... some of these teams are getting destroyed in the quarterfinals and now they're moving on to the semis? Like, what's the point of having a playoff system if you're just gonna make them run through the meat grinder before they even get a chance to play the good teams? 
I mean I know these teams have been doing amazing but I still think there's gonna be some upsets 
Fremd vs Bolingbrook is gonna be a close one and I hope Fenwick doesn't mess it up in their matchup against East St Louis 
I'm also kinda rooting for Brown County to pull off an upset against Calhoun they've been doing so well this season 
he's super excited about the semis and is stressing out about his grades like usual lol
. But now with the state quarterfinals all done, I'm getting a little nervous thinking about the semifinals 
. You know how intense those games can get! My only advice to these teams is to stay focused, communicate with each other, and have fun out there... oh wait, that's easy for me to say 
. Anyway, looking forward to seeing which teams will make it all the way to the state championship

And I gotta give a shoutout to Brown County, they're definitely flying under the radar this year 
And what about some of the lower-seeded teams that pulled off those huge upsets - does that mean they're gonna be major contenders in the semis? 
they're basically robots on the field. Like, who even competes against Fremd or St. Rita? Those teams are going to steamroll everyone in the semis. And don't even get me started on how rigged it is when you have a team like Brown County show up and suddenly become contenders. I mean, what even is that? Some random upset? Yeah right 
it's always the same teams making it to the semis, you'd think someone would get some new blood in there. anyway, looks like some of these teams are looking pretty strong this year... Fremd's on fire
