Academics who say they are 'pro-white' and have 'ethnic conception' of Australia turn spotlight on Sydney's Campion College

Australia's Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (Teqsa) has launched an investigation into Campion College, a prestigious Catholic institution in Sydney, following comments made by two prominent academics who have expressed support for white nationalism.

Stephen McInerney, a dean of studies at the college, has described himself as an "Australian nationalist" and has promoted the idea of Anglo-Celtic Australians becoming a "supermajority" in the country. His comments were met with outrage from some critics who saw them as promoting racist ideologies. Meanwhile, Associate Professor Stephen Chavura, a senior lecturer at the institution, has established an Anglo-Celtic nationalist group for Australian men and called for the abolition of multiculturalism.

The controversy surrounding McInerney's remarks has led to calls for greater scrutiny of Campion College's academic freedom policies and its handling of incidents involving white nationalism on campus. Critics argue that the college's stance on free speech may be too permissive, allowing racist ideologies to spread unchecked.

Campion College is a small private institution with powerful backers, including former Liberal minister Zed Seselja and conservative figures such as Joseph de Bruyn, who has compared abortion to the "human toll of world war two". The college's president, Paul Morrissey, defended the college's academic freedom policy, stating that it believed in robust debate and the dignity of every human person, regardless of their race or religion.

However, others have raised concerns about the impact of such ideologies on vulnerable groups, including migrants and minority communities. Mehreen Faruqi, deputy Greens leader and higher education spokesperson, has called for greater action to be taken against white supremacy and white nationalism in Australian universities.

The investigation into Campion College is a significant development in a broader debate about racism and free speech in Australian universities. As the country grapples with issues of identity politics and social justice, institutions like Campion College will need to navigate these complex issues while balancing their commitment to academic freedom and intellectual diversity.

its wild that a college thats supposed to be promoting knowledge & learning is giving a platform to ppl spewing racist ideologies ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ“š they're not just speaking for themselves, but for a whole group of people who might get swept up in the hate speech ๐Ÿ’” its like, we need to protect our campuses from people who are gonna turn our institutions into breeding grounds for white nationalism ๐Ÿšซ cant even imagine what kinda harm that would do to ppl already struggling to find their place in society ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ gotta keep an eye on this investigation & hope Teqsa is serious about holding Campion College accountable ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm kinda worried about this one... I mean, two academics at a prestigious college like that, saying things that are straight up racist? It's just not okay, you know? ๐Ÿค• But at the same time, I get where they're coming from - some people feel like their identities and cultures are being erased or marginalized. It's all about balance, right? You can't have one without acknowledging the other.

I'm not sure what Campion College is gonna do with this investigation, but hopefully they'll take a hard look at their policies and make some changes. We need to be careful with free speech, but we also need to protect people from harm. It's a tricky situation...

๐Ÿ˜’ I'm not surprised they're investigating this place... gotta be a bunch of privileged Aussies running around, thinking they own the country already. McInerney's comments were straight outta a white nationalist playbook ๐Ÿšซ. How many times do you have to see this stuff before people wake up? The fact that Campion College has these powerful backers just makes it worse... Zed Seselja and Joseph de Bruyn, what a nightmare combo ๐Ÿ˜ท. The college's president is all like "robust debate" but let's be real, they're just trying to silence dissenting voices ๐Ÿค. It's about time someone called out this kind of toxic ideology on campus... but I'm sure there are plenty more hiding in the shadows ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ.

This whole situation at Campion College is giving me a lot of food for thought ๐Ÿค”... it's clear that we're living in a time where the lines between acceptable debate and overtly racist ideologies are becoming increasingly blurred โš ๏ธ. I think it's crucial that institutions like Campion College take a closer look at their policies on free speech and academic freedom, and make sure they're not inadvertently creating an environment that fosters hate speech or marginalization ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. It's also interesting to see how this controversy is sparking conversations about identity politics and social justice in Australia โ€“ I think it's essential for us to engage with these issues head-on, even if it means navigating complex power dynamics ๐ŸŒŽ.

๐Ÿค” this is getting crazy lol, i mean what's next? someone saying they love pineapple on pizza ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ˜‚ but for real though, these academics are lowkey putting australia in a bad light fam ๐Ÿ’” we need institutions like campion college to be more careful with their words and actions, can't have our universities promoting hate speech or racism, that's just not the vibe ๐Ÿ”ฅ we're all about diversity and inclusivity here ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’–

๐Ÿคก๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ OMG u no wht's goin on in aus?? ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ”ฅ "Anglo-Celtic nationalists" tryna become a supermajority lol ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜น theyre talkin about abolishin multiculturalism but idk if thats even possible lol ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ‘€ meanwhile the rest of us just wanna have our avocado toast and lattes in peace ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ
