Dangerous surf conditions continue to plague the Bay Area as a powerful storm system moves ashore tonight, bringing strong winds and large waves that could make for hazardous beach conditions.
Gusts of up to 30 miles per hour were recorded earlier today, although they died down significantly by midday. The warmup from the previous day's windy conditions has brought daytime highs into the upper 60s in some areas, but a storm system moving in tonight is expected to bring significant cooler air and temperatures only reaching the mid-50s.
A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect until 10 pm tonight, warning of sneaker waves, rip currents, and rough surf. The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay through Sunday due to higher-than-normal tides known as "king tides". Minor flooding is possible in low-lying areas along the shore.
The weather improves slightly tomorrow with a one-day cooldown bringing temperatures back into the upper 50s. However, from Friday onwards, the warming trend continues, with sunny skies and highs reaching mid-to-upper 60s near the Bay Area, while coastal areas see temperatures ranging between 60 to 62 degrees.
Significant rain is not expected until later this month on December 14th-15th, but for now, it's a good idea to check surf forecasts and beach conditions before heading out to enjoy the outdoors.
