Alassane Ouattara wins landslide fourth term as Ivory Coast's president

Ivory Coast's Alassane Ouattara Secures Landslide Victory for Fourth Term as President

In a decisive victory, Ivory Coast's 83-year-old president, Alassane Ouattara, has been declared the winner of the country's presidential election with a staggering 89.77% of the vote, securing his fourth term in office. The opposition heavyweights Laurent Gbagbo and Tidjane Thiam were barred from contesting, leaving only four lesser-known candidates on the ballot.

The landslide result is Ouattara's most convincing win to date, surpassing his previous winning margins in 2015 when he secured 83% of the vote. The opposition's best performer was Henriette Lagou Adjoua, who improved her previous record from 0.89% to a mere 1.15%. Jean-Louis Billon, a former trade minister, came close but ultimately finished as runner-up with just 3% of the tally.

Ouattara's victory is seen as a significant improvement over his previous two wins, which were marred by controversy and violence. The current administration has been criticized for its crony capitalism and clampdown on opposition, which has led to widespread human rights concerns.

Despite the low turnout in urban areas, particularly in Abidjan, the commercial capital, observers have noted that this may have inadvertently contributed to a more peaceful election. In 2010, Ouattara's last win was marred by violence, and in 2020, there were reports of youths ransacking the electoral commission's office, leading to a curfew being declared.

Human rights groups had raised alarm about the heavy deployment of security personnel and the sidelining of prominent opposition figures. However, this time around, the election has been marked by relatively calm protests and a higher voter turnout than expected.

Ouattara will now lead the world's largest cocoa producer until 2030, overseeing high economic growth rates and significant infrastructural development. His administration has been praised for its achievements, but critics have accused him of authoritarian tendencies and suppressing dissent.

man he's like a total cement man lol 83 years old and still crushing it 🀣 i guess you could say he's got the cocoa machine on lock, literally producing all that cash for the country πŸ’Έ anyway, gotta give him props for improving the election process this time around, low turnout in urban areas is a positive sign πŸ™ maybe he's finally listening to those human rights groups?

I'm not sure if I'd be too comfortable with a president winning by such a landslide πŸ€”. Like, 89.77% is crazy! What's the point of even having an opposition if they're just gonna get trampled like that? It feels like Ouattara has got this whole thing rigged in his favor πŸ’Έ.

And don't even get me started on human rights concerns 🚨. I mean, crony capitalism and a clampdown on opposition is never a good look for any government, let alone one that's supposed to be representing its people. It's like Ouattara is more concerned with lining his own pockets than with actually listening to what his citizens want πŸ’·.

I'm not saying he hasn't done some good stuff as president πŸ™, but this whole authoritarian vibe is just a major turn-off πŸ˜’. I'd love to see more transparency and accountability from the government, especially when it comes to elections 🀝. Maybe then we can have a real conversation about what's best for Ivory Coast and not just a one-man show πŸ’₯.

πŸ€” so like ouattara gets another 4 yrs in power what does it say about the african politics system? is it just a matter of money and how well connected u r? πŸ€‘ also gotta wonder wut happened to laurent gbagbo n tidjane thiam?? were they banned from politics 4 good or bad? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

.. thinkin out loud here lol πŸ€” u no how this is all rigged right? Ouattara wins by a landslide every time, sounds like he's got the whole system in his pocket πŸ€‘ but at least it was relatively peaceful this time around... i guess that's what they want u to focus on, not the fact that opposition figures were barred from runnin or that human rights groups were worried sick πŸ€• and what about all these 'achievements' he's gonna oversee? Sounds like just more of the same crony capitalism that's been goin on under his admin πŸ‘€ and dont even get me started on this cocoa thing... ivory coast is literally swimmin in gold dust, but is it really profitin anyone but Ouattara himself πŸ€‘

OMG you guys 🀯 Alassane Ouattara securing his fourth term is crazy talk I mean 89.77% of the vote is insane no wonder the opposition didn't stand a chance πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ those lesser-known candidates were like nobodies in comparison. And can we talk about the controversy surrounding his previous wins? it's like he just brushed it off and kept on going πŸ’β€β™€οΈ

And I'm kinda impressed that human rights groups are being relatively calm about this election...I mean they're not as outraged as I'd expect πŸ˜‚ but still, crony capitalism and clampdowns on opposition is no joke. And did you see the voter turnout in Abidjan? low key awesome πŸ€— it's like the security presence actually helped to keep things chill

Anyway, 2030 here he comes πŸ‘‹ can't wait to see what the next four years bring!

I mean come on, 89.77%? That's just ridiculous πŸ˜‚. What's next, a president for life? I'm all for Ouattara's leadership, don't get me wrong, but it feels like he's getting away with this whole "four terms" thing without anyone questioning him πŸ€”. The opposition doesn't stand a chance when you've got your fingers in every cookie jar and crony capitalism is the name of the game πŸͺπŸ‘€. And let's be real, those human rights concerns are just a minor speed bump for his admin πŸ’ͺ. He's already won four terms, who cares about one more? πŸ˜’

come on, 89.77% is still a bit sus πŸ€” Ouattara's got some serious connections, don't think that vote just magically landed at his feet πŸ’Έ gotta wonder how many people even bothered to show up in those urban areas πŸ“Š abidjan should be getting a lot more attention than it gets rn

Man, I'm kinda surprised Ouattara won so bigly 🀯, but I guess people just wanna keep things stable in Ivory Coast 😊. 83% of the vote is like, whoa! That's a lot of cocoa-coffee-fueled votes πŸ’ͺ. But for real tho, it's been a while since he's had a super clean election - let's hope his admin doesn't get too cozy with big corps πŸ€‘. On the bright side, more people than expected showed up to vote, so maybe that's a sign of things improving? Can't wait to see what 2030 brings for this West African giant 🌊 #OuattaraReElected #IvoryCoast #CocoaKing

the fact that Ouattara got 89.77% of the vote without any major opposition is quite interesting πŸ€” especially given the controversy surrounding his previous wins πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ it's almost as if he's created a climate where only him can win? πŸŒͺ️ i'm not sure what to make of this, but on one hand, it's great that human rights groups didn't see any major issues with the election πŸ™ and on the other, it does seem like Ouattara has complete control over the narrative now πŸ“’ which might not be a bad thing or a bad thing, idk 😊

πŸ€” man i feel like ouattara has done a good job with the economy and all but its sad that opposition voices are being silenced πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ u know how it is when u feel like u rnt hearin both sides of the story? anyway gotta say, 89.77% is insane lol πŸ˜‚ maybe thats a sign of his popularity but also makes me wonder if he really has a mandate to do whatever he wants πŸ€‘ what do u guys think tho? shouldnt we have more parties in the running or at least some sorta opposition force? πŸ€”
