Arsenal v Liverpool: Women's Super League – live

A dramatic turnaround in fortunes for Arsenal Women FC at the Emirates Stadium. Down to their last two matches of the calendar year, with only eight points separating them from leaders Manchester City, the Gunners needed a victory to keep their title hopes alive.

But it was Liverpool who came out on top in a thrilling 2-1 win over their London rivals. Goals from Beth Mead's former clubmate Olivia Smith and Liverpool's own Beata Olsson sealed the deal, with Smith netting her fourth goal of the season in just five matches.

The Gunners' only goal of the match was scored by Alessia Russo, who was left to rue a missed chance that she had created earlier in the game. However, it wasn't enough to secure a vital three points for Arsenal's Women FC as Liverpool secured their first league victory of the campaign.

Reine Slegers' team is now on 19 points with just six matches remaining, which still leaves them well behind title leaders Manchester City, but still gives them hope of finishing second in the league.

Ugh, what's up with this new format they introduced? Now you can only watch highlights from the match and not even get to see all the goals 🤯. Can't even support your favorite team without being treated like a casual fan anymore 👎. And seriously, 6 matches left in the season and I'm already stressing about how my predictions are gonna play out 😬. Still, can't deny that Liverpool played well and deserved that win 🙌. Reine Slegers should be proud of her team though, still giving it a shot at second place 💪.

omg what a shock 😂... i mean, i guess it's not like Liverpool was due for a win or anything, right? anyway, that Beata Olsson is on fire 🔥! 4 goals in 5 matches? impressive, girl! 🤩 and poor Alessia Russo, she had the chance to seal it for her team but missed... nice one, hindsight is always 20/20 🙃. i'm still rooting for Reine Slegers and the girls at Emirates Stadium though, they can still make a push for that second spot 👏!

I'm so frustrated for Arsenal Women FC right now 🤕. They were so close to beating Liverpool and taking a big step towards securing that second-place spot. But I guess sometimes things just don't go as planned 😔.

I've been following this team all season, and it's amazing to see the improvement they've made under Reine Slegers' coaching 🤩. Those eight points separating them from Manchester City might seem like a lot now, but I'm sure they'll keep fighting 💪. And let's be real, finishing second in the league is still an incredible achievement 🔥. They should hold their heads high and keep working towards that goal 🏆!

Omg what a huge bummer for Arsenal Women FC 🤕! I was really rooting for them to pull off that win and keep their title hopes alive 💪, but Liverpool just played some crazy good football 🏆! Beata Olsson is like a total superstar out there 🤩! They're still in with a chance of finishing second though, so fingers crossed for Reine Slegers and the team 🤞!

😐 I was so hyped for Arsenal Women to take down Liverpool today... thought they had it in the bag. Beth Mead's always been a goal-scoring machine and I knew she'd find a way to get on the scoresheet. Still, can't help but feel like that missed chance by Alessia Russo killed all hopes of a comeback 💔. Guess you gotta give credit to Liverpool though - Beata Olsson looked like a total beast out there! 4 goals in 5 matches is insane 🤯
