Bay Area Congressman Eric Swalwell announces run for California governor

Swalwell Enters California Governor's Race with Promise to Tackle Cost of Living Crisis

Congressman Eric Swalwell has announced his candidacy for the California governorship, touting himself as a fighter and protector who will bring down prices and lift wages. The East Bay representative's entrance into the race comes after billionaire Democratic activist Tom Steyer also jumped in last week, with Steyer focusing on affordability as his key message.

Swalwell's decision to run is seen as a response to what he perceived as a failure by previous candidates to break through in the crowded field. "Eric Swalwell and Tom Steyer clearly felt empowered to jump into this race now, because they looked at the other candidates, and they said, 'You guys have failed to break through. We could do better,'" said Justin Berton, a political consultant.

As the Democratic candidate with experience taking on President Donald Trump in the House of Representatives, Swalwell is positioning himself as a unique voice who can bring a different approach to the campaign trail. "Every other candidate in the field talks about taking on Trump," he said. "I'm doing it right now in real time." However, Swalwell acknowledged that Trump's influence may continue to be felt in California politics.

Swalwell's campaign has already made headlines with its 1-minute video announcing his candidacy and appearances on late-night TV shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The candidate has emphasized the need for a leader who can bring down prices and lift wages, echoing concerns about affordability that have been voiced by many Californians.

The California governorship race is wide open, with nearly 44% of voters still undecided according to an early November Berkeley poll. Several high-profile politicians have already entered the fray, including Congresswoman Katie Porter, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.

As Swalwell begins his campaign journey, it remains to be seen how he will differentiate himself from other candidates in a crowded field and how effectively he can address the pressing issues facing California's residents.

🤔 so whats going on with california? first tom steyer jumps into governor race then eric swalwell and now its getting super crowded 🚨 i mean dont get me wrong ppl need help with cost of living crisis but cannt they just agree to not run against each other lol? 😂 anyway Swalwells trying to position himself as the only one who can actually do something about it but i still have no idea what his actual plan is 🤷‍♂️ does anyone know how this is gonna play out? 🤔

🤔 I think what's really gonna set Eric Swalwell apart is his ability to connect with people on a grassroots level 🌱. As someone who's already taken on big names like Trump, he knows how to build momentum and energize crowds 🔥. But the real question is, can he actually deliver on his promises about tackling the cost of living crisis? 💸 I mean, it's one thing to say you're gonna do something, but another to make it happen 🤷‍♂️. Still, Swalwell's got a lot going for him, and if he can stay focused and true to himself, I think he's got a good shot at making some real changes in Sacramento 💪.

I don’t usually comment but I think Eric Swalwell’s decision to run for governor is kinda cool 😎. He’s definitely been a thorn in Trump’s side, which shows he’s got some guts 🤪. The whole affordability thing resonates with me too - it feels like everyone’s been struggling to make ends meet lately 💸.

I don’t know if he’s the best candidate for the job or anything, but at least he’s trying to bring a different perspective to the table 📈. I mean, who else is gonna take on the powers that be and try to shake things up? 💥

But seriously, Swalwell’s got some tough shoes to fill - there are so many heavy hitters in this race right now 🤯. Can he really make a difference for California residents? That remains to be seen 🤔.

🤔 So I'm thinking about this... if Eric Swalwell is serious about tackling the cost of living crisis in CA, then we need to see some real numbers, not just empty promises 🤑. It's one thing to talk tough on TV, but what concrete steps will he take? Will it be a tax hike for the rich or something for low-income families? 🤝 Let's get the details, shall we? 💸

Eric Swalwell is gonna crush it!!! 🤩 I mean, have you seen that 1-minute video announcing his candidacy? 🔥 It's like he's ready to take on Trump (again) and bring down those prices in Cali! 💸 And let's be real, with Tom Steyer already in the mix, Swalwell is gonna shine even brighter. He's got experience, he's got skills, and he's got a message that resonates with the people. I'm low-key hoping he takes this one all the way 🎉

just saw that eric swalwell is running for cali governor 🤔👀 gotta love how he's trying to tackle the cost of living crisis - it's about time we do something about it, you know? 🤑 as someone who's lived in cali their whole life, i can attest to how hard it is to make ends meet, especially with rent prices skyrocketing. Swalwell's got some good momentum going on with his 1-minute video announcement 📺 and shows on jimmy kimmel live! 👍 but we'll have to wait and see if he can really deliver on his promises 🤞
