Bears Coach Stays Tight-Lipped About Possible Return of Cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon
The Chicago Bears are considering a move to activate cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon from injured reserve for Friday's game against the Eagles, but coach Ben Johnson is keeping his cards close to his chest.
Johnson has been sidelined since before training camp due to groin injuries, while Gordon has missed only two games so far this season with hamstring and calf issues. The team would need to make a roster change on Thursday if they're to bring them back into the fold.
The fact that both Johnson and Gordon were full participants in practice on Wednesday may suggest they're getting close to returning, but coach Ben Johnson refused to tip his hand until Thursday's roster move is made.
In related news, cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson hinted at a possible return for Johnson by calling him one of the league's best cornerbacks and suggesting that he'll get an opportunity to showcase his skills this week against the Eagles' potent receiving corps.
The Bears have also given a boost to second-round pick Ozzy Trapilo, who started in place of injured left tackle Theo Benedet. Coach Ben Johnson praised Trapilo for "doing a great job" in Sunday's win and noted that a healthy Benedet may still retain his starting spot.
Several other players remain sidelined, including linebackers T.J. Edwards and Noah Sewell, who are struggling with hand/hamstring injuries. Additionally, defensive tackle Gervon Dexter has been added to the injury report due to a hand issue, while guard Luke Newman (foot) and defensive end Dominique Robinson (concussion) will miss the game.
The Eagles' receiving corps may have just become more formidable, however, as they've been without star wide receiver DeVonta Smith due to an illness/shoulder/chest injury.
