Kyle Monangai Shines in First Career Start, Bears' Seventh-Round Rookie Exceeds Expectations.
The Chicago Bears' 2025 NFL Draft pick Kyle Monangai put on an impressive display in his first career start against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, running for a team-record 176 yards and three receptions for 22 yards. His stellar performance came with the Bears facing the league's worst run defense.
Monangai, the seventh-round rookie selection out of Maryland, was thrust into the starting role after D'Andre Swift suffered an injury in practice last week. The young back showed that he's more than just a backup, as his team dominated the Bengals on the ground with 283 yards and 7.6 yards per carry.
"It's like who [Monangai] has been since he's been here," said Bears coach Ben Johnson. "Very reliable. He's going to do what you're coaching. He's hard to bring down."
Meanwhile, Browns was called up from the practice squad on Saturday and made a significant impact in his first NFL game with 37 yards on five carries. Monangai was initially set to return after being taped up during the first quarter but remained on the field for several plays.
Quarterback Caleb Williams added 53 yards on five carries, while DJ Moore scored a touchdown on a run that will be reviewed after it appeared he fumbled in the end zone.
