Ben Platt to Star in U.K. Premiere of ‘Midnight at the Never Get,’ Musical From ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Songwriter Mark Sonnenblick

Beloved Tony winner Ben Platt is set to bring his signature charm and charisma to London's West End in the UK premiere of "Midnight at the Never Get," a highly anticipated musical from songwriter Mark Sonnenblick, best known for his work on Netflix's hit series "KPop Demon Hunters." The show, which explores themes of love, rebellion, and social change, will make its debut at the Menier Chocolate Factory in July.

Sonnenblick's book, music, and lyrics are woven together to create a poignant tale set against the vibrant backdrop of 1960s New York City. At the heart of the story is the forbidden romance between Trevor Copeland and Arthur Brightman, who risk everything by performing love songs at a secret nightclub called "Midnight." As tensions build amidst the dawn of social revolution, the couple must navigate their own desires and the danger that surrounds them.

Under the direction of Tony and Drama Desk winner David Cromer, Platt will take on the lead role, bringing his distinctive voice and stage presence to the intimate theatre at the Menier Chocolate Factory. "I'm thrilled to be undertaking my first full run on the London stage," Platt said in a statement. "It's truly wonderful to work with Mark, who is not only a genius songwriter but also a true friend."

The show has been reworked for its UK debut, marking the first time it will be performed without the original Off-Broadway cast. Full casting announcements are expected shortly. Prior booking for tickets opens on March 2 for Menier Chocolate Factory supporters, with regular priority booking beginning on March 11.

With Platt's involvement, fans of his breakout role in "Dear Evan Hansen" can look forward to another unforgettable performance. Sonnenblick described the experience as a "gift" and an opportunity to collaborate with "a once-in-a-generation performer." The show is set to open on July 20 and close on September 12, promising a thrilling experience for audiences at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

lol just what i needed another musical 🎶👀 so ben platt is doing 'midnight at the never get' aka the forbidden love story of the year 💔 meanwhile i'm over here trying to figure out how he's gonna rock that lead role without being too emo 🤣 the show sounds super 60s new york city vibes, kinda like 'kpop demon hunters' but w/o the demons 😏 can't wait to see him bring trevor copeland to life, hope his voice holds up under all those love ballads ❤️

I'm so down for Ben Platt's UK premiere of Midnight at the Never Get 🎵👏. It reminds me of when I watched Dear Evan Hansen like, five years ago? 🤣 I was hooked on his performance, and now he's bringing that same charm to London. The 1960s New York City setting sounds so iconic – it feels like a scene from Saturday Night Fever or Grease 💃🏻🕺. Can't wait to see how the show has been reworked for its UK debut, hope it still captures that special magic ✨

🎭 This new musical sounds like it's going to be EPIC! 🤩 I'm so stoked that Ben Platt is bringing his talents to London - he's got this infectious energy that just draws you in. The story of Trevor and Arthur's forbidden romance sounds like the stuff of dreams, set against the vibrant backdrop of 60s NYC. It's amazing how Mark Sonnenblick has woven their book, music, and lyrics together to create something so poignant.

I love that it's being performed at the Menier Chocolate Factory - those places are always so intimate and full of character. And with David Cromer at the helm, you know you're in good hands. Can't wait to see how it all comes together on stage! 💫 The fact that Ben Platt is collaborating with Mark Sonnenblick again is like a match made in heaven - these two are clearly meant to create magic together. It's going to be so cool to see what they've come up with this time around. 🎵

🤔 I mean, I'm not sure if this is gonna be good or bad... Ben Platt's in it so that's a win right? 🎉 But, I'm kinda worried they're changing some stuff up for the UK premiere. I don't wanna jinx it but what if they mess up the music? Mark Sonnenblick's got talent but can he really pull off this new version? 🤷‍♂️ And what about the lead roles? Are they still gonna be Trevor and Arthur? Maybe I'm just overthinking it... 🤦‍♂️ But, on the bright side, David Cromer's directing so that's a plus! 💫 The Menier Chocolate Factory is always a cool spot to see shows. Fingers crossed for this one... 🤞
