British public's verdict is in: Die Hard is not a Christmas movie

A recent survey conducted by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has provided insight into what constitutes a traditional Christmas film for the nation. The results have shown that Home Alone reigns supreme as the favorite festive film among respondents, making up 20% of those polled.

On the other hand, Die Hard, which Macaulay Culkin recently referred to as not being a Christmas movie, has been voted by nearly half of the population - 44% - as not belonging in the holiday genre. However, this number is significantly lower when compared to the percentage defending the film's festive credentials at 38%, with some respondents even expressing affection for it. The remaining portion of those polled were undecided about its classification.

Interestingly, the survey also revealed that going to the cinema over Christmas was a tradition for nearly one-fifth (18%) of respondents, but these individuals had differing preferences when it came to timing. A third preferred viewing before Christmas Eve, while 20% preferred on Boxing Day.

It is clear from this research and comments made by Macaulay Culkin that there exists considerable debate surrounding whether or not a film should be classified as a Christmas movie simply because its setting is in December.

I think it's kinda weird how people are so divided about Die Hard being a Christmas movie πŸ€”. I mean, to me, if it's set during Christmas and has all those festive vibes, why not? It feels like a part of the holiday season to me. But at the same time, I can see why others might not consider it a traditional Christmas film - it's more action-packed than, say, Elf πŸŽ…. The only thing that really matters is whether you enjoy watching it around Christmas or not, right? And honestly, I think going to the cinema over Christmas sounds like so much fun! Whether it's before or on Boxing Day doesn't matter as long as you get to watch some awesome movies 🍿πŸŽ₯.

I'm literally thinking of watching Home Alone with my friends right now πŸŽ₯. I was talking to my friend Emma earlier and she said Die Hard isn't really a Christmas movie but I don't get it, like what's wrong with that? It's got all the feels of Christmas: explosions, presents, and Bruce Willis πŸ˜‚. I think it's so cool that Macaulay Culkin has his own opinion about it though. I'm just glad we can finally put this debate to rest... or not 🀣. I wonder if my school's Christmas movie marathon will have Die Hard on the list? Fingers crossed! πŸŽ…

I'm loving the results of this survey πŸŽ…πŸΌ! It's crazy to see Home Alone taking the top spot, but at the same time, it's really interesting that Die Hard is still sparking such a strong debate - 44% of people aren't sure if it's a Christmas movie? That just goes to show how subjective these classifications can be πŸ€”. I mean, who needs a specific Christmas setting when you've got yuletide cheer and festive vibes, right? And oh man, the cinema tradition is so cool - I love going to the movies during holidays, there's something magical about it ✦️. Anyway, it's awesome that this survey has brought people together (or at least made us all think about what makes a Christmas movie) πŸŽ₯

omg what's going on with these christmas movies 🀯 i mean, Home Alone is def the king of xmas flicks, but at the same time, Die Hard can't just be excluded from the festivity πŸŽ„πŸ‘€ it's like, isn't that just a cool action movie set in winter? πŸ€” and 44% not liking it is kinda crazy... or am i overthinking this whole thing πŸ˜… meanwhile, who actually goes to the cinema on xmas anyway? that's just weird to me 🎬

omg I'm like totally surprised by the results 🀯! I mean, Home Alone at 20%? That's crazy! but at the same time, it makes sense - who doesn't love watching Kevin McCallister outsmart those bumbling burglars every year during Christmas πŸŽ…πŸΌ... and Die Hard being a no-go for some people, that's fair too. I personally think Yule be a great debate starter though! but what's crazy is that going to the cinema over Christmas is actually a thing for like 18% of people? I wish we could make that happen more often πŸΏπŸŽ„... and can we please just agree on one Christmas movie canon already? lol

πŸŽ…πŸΌ I mean, can you blame them for loving Home Alone? It's like the ultimate Christmas vibe, you know? But it's crazy to me that Die Hard gets so much flak from people about being a "Christmas movie". I think it's all just a fun debate. I personally think it's cool that Macaulay Culkin is owning his opinion on it. And hey, going to the cinema over Christmas sounds like an amazing way to get into the holiday spirit! πŸΏπŸŽ„ I love how there are even people who are undecided about Die Hard being a Christmas movie... maybe it just depends on your mood and what you're in the mood for? πŸ€”

OMG, I mean like, I totally knew Die Hard wasn't a Christmas movie lol! But seriously, 44% saying it's not a Christmas flick? That's kinda surprising tbh πŸ€”. I think people are just getting all confused with the whole "Christmas movie" label. Like, just because it happens in December doesn't mean it's automatically festive. And honestly, I'm so over Home Alone being the "favorite" - it's been played to death! 😴 Anyway, 18% of people go to the cinema on Christmas, but they gotta decide between before or after 🎬? Priorities, am I right?

I dont get why Die Hard is such a big deal πŸ€”, like, it's about Bruce Willis fighting bad guys on a snowy day, that sounds like a Christmas movie to me! πŸ˜‚ I mean Home Alone has some funny parts but it's not as iconic or action-packed as Die Hard. And what's wrong with watching it on Boxing Day? It's still Christmas, right? πŸŽ„ I think the BBFC should just let people decide for themselves if a film is a Christmas movie or not πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ.

I'm so done with people saying Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie πŸ™„. I mean, it's basically about a guy who gets stuck at home during the holidays and has to defend his place from some baddies. That sounds like the epitome of Christmas spirit to me! Anyway, Home Alone is definitely a classic fave, but I'm surprised Die Hard didn't get more love from people... maybe it just depends on how you define a "Christmas movie"? πŸ€”

I'm telling you, it's all about the nostalgia factor 🀣 Home Alone will always be the OG Christmas movie, no matter what anyone says! But I'm with Die Hard fans 100% - it may not be traditionally Christmas-y, but it's got that iconic festive vibe πŸ’₯ And can we talk about how bloody confusing it is when people say it's NOT a Christmas movie? Like, come on, it's got presents, decorations, and Bruce Willis kicking butt in a snow-covered skyscraper... what more Christmas do you need?! πŸ˜‚ The only thing I don't get is why some people are stuck in the "it's only December" mentality - like, who cares if it's December or not? It's all about the festive spirit, innit?! πŸŽ…

OMG, can u believe Home Alone is the fave christmas film?! I think it's so cool that die hard has some ppl who don't consider it a christmas movie tho... i mean, what even is a christmas movie? πŸ€” is it just 'cause it happens in december or do we need to have snowmen and presents too?! πŸŽ„πŸ° personally, i think die hard is like the original action christmas flick, but hey what do i know?! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I gotta say πŸ€”, if 44% of people think Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie, then I'd say it's more like 64% - most of those who said they didn't think it was a Christmas movie probably haven't watched it enough to really get why it's so beloved. I mean, come on, Yippee Ki Yay is basically synonymous with Christmas for some people! πŸŽ… But at the same time, I can see how it wouldn't be considered traditional in the same vein as, say, Love Actually or Elf. It's just a matter of perspective πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. And what's with Macaulay Culkin saying that anyway? He wasn't even born until 1985 - does he really know what Christmas movies are all about? πŸ™„
