Brooklyn man charged in stabbing death of his 85-year-old grandmother

A Brooklyn man has been slapped with murder and weapons charges in connection with the fatal stabbing of his 85-year-old grandmother. Jackson King, 22, was arrested following a Tuesday night attack on Julia Boomer at their shared Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment. Police have revealed that Boomer suffered multiple stab wounds, leading to her death.

According to investigators, it appeared that the altercation could be linked to a psychotic episode experienced by King at the time of the attack. However, the full extent of his mental state has not been disclosed.

It is unclear who represented King during this period, as no information was available on his attorney prior to the charges being filed. The slaying marked the first homicide of 2026 within the 79th Precinct boundaries.

In recent years, the precinct has seen a relatively stable number of homicides, with eight reported in both 2024 and 2025. Nationally, however, there was a notable decrease in overall citywide homicides over that same period, falling by more than 20% year-over-year.

man... such a senseless tragedy πŸ€•. i feel bad for julia's family & loved ones, especially her grandkids who must be going through an unimaginable grief πŸ˜”. it's crazy how one minute your life can take a turn like that due to mental health struggles πŸ’”. we need more support systems in place for people dealing with psychosis & less stigmatization around mental illness 🌟. hope king gets the help he needs while serving his time, but also pray that this kind of violence stops happening in our communities πŸ’•. it's a tough pill to swallow when we see such devastating acts of violence 🀯...

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one... 😱 A 22-yr-old man stabbing his own grandma to death? It's just not right. I mean, I've seen some crazy stuff on the news before, but this is just sad.

The fact that it might be linked to a psychotic episode doesn't make it okay, you know? πŸ€• People need help when they're struggling with their mental health, and we should be supporting each other instead of... well, stabbing each other. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

It's also kinda weird that the dude's lawyer is unknown at this point. You'd think that would've come out in the news already. πŸ€” Anyway, I'm just hoping the perpetrator gets some help and treatment for their mental health issues.

It's still pretty surprising to see a homicide in the 79th Precinct area, even with all the other stuff going on in the city. Eight homicides in two years isn't too bad, considering. But yeah, one life lost is still way too many 😒

Man, this is just so sad πŸ€•... I mean, 22 years old and you're already dealing with something like this? I remember when my grandma passed away too young, it was a big hit on our family... I guess times have changed, but it's still the same pain. Anyway, it's crazy how these things can happen so fast, one minute she's fine, next she's gone 😒... I hope they get to the bottom of what went down in that apartment and maybe they can help Jackson King deal with his issues too... we need more resources for people like him, you know? 🀝

Ugh, I'm so over the state of online forums like this 🀯. Can't we just have a respectful conversation without all the drama and negativity? It's like, come on guys, let's try to focus on the topic at hand, you know?

Anyway, back to the news... it's really sad what happened to Julia Boomer. 85 years old, stabbed to death by her own grandchild. That's just heartbreaking πŸ€•. And the fact that King had a psychotic episode at the time of the attack... yeah, it's just another example of how mental health issues can spiral out of control.

I don't know what's more concerning though - the fact that King was able to get his hands on a knife and carry out such a heinous act, or that we're still seeing these kinds of incidents in our communities. It's like, we need to be having bigger conversations about gun control, mental health resources, and just general community support 🀝.

And can someone please remind me why I'm stuck reading this forum on my phone instead of being out in the world making a difference? 😩

This is just another example of how mental health issues can escalate into tragedy πŸ˜”. I mean, we all know our city's resources are already stretched thin, what with the homelessness crisis and affordable housing shortages... it's like we're creating a perfect storm for these kinds of situations.

And let's talk about King's age - 22? That's basically still considered young adulthood, right? How can we expect someone that young to have all their ducks in a row when it comes to mental health care and support? We need to be questioning our societal expectations around aging and what we owe to each other... are we failing these kids? πŸ€”

I'm like "yeah no way this is crazy" 🀯 but also "wait isn't he only 22? shouldn't he be in juvenile detention or something?" I mean, I guess you gotta feel bad for the guy's family and all that, but murder is a big deal. It's just... I don't know how someone can snap like that. Did they not get any help before it got to this point? And what even is a psychotic episode? Is he just gonna get a slap on the wrist or do he really deserve some serious time behind bars? I'm all over the place πŸ€ͺ

just heard about this news it's crazy how one minute you're chillin with your grandma the next she's stabbed to death can't even imagine being in King's shoes right now got PTSD or something and snaps on a loved one lol guess that's why they say age is just a number anyway gotta be really hard for his family & friends rn

🀯 22 years old already getting a life sentence for stabbing his grandma to death? Like, what's the rush? Can't even get a good Netflix show without committing murder πŸ“ΊπŸ’€. I mean, I know mental health is no joke and all that, but you gotta wonder if there was more to this story than just some psychotic episode... like maybe he wanted the attention or something πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

And can we talk about how easy it is for young adults to get locked up these days? Like, I'm not saying Jackson didn't deserve it or anything, but shouldn't we be trying to help people instead of throwing them in a cell? πŸ’” It's just so sad when you think about the life he'll never have now... πŸ˜”.

I'm shocked they're charging him with murder, I mean, mental health issues can be super serious 🀯. Like, his mom or whoever is supposed to be looking out for him should've known he was having a bad day πŸ™. And what's up with no info on his lawyer? That's just red tape, you know? πŸ“ The fact that there are only eight homicides in the precinct last year and this one is already gonna give it a whole new vibe... maybe they should rethink their policing strategies or something πŸ’‘. I'm not saying he didn't do it, but like, mental health awareness is super important right now πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

πŸ€• just heard about this devastating story in Brooklyn... my heart goes out to Julia Boomer's family πŸ™ a tragic reminder of the complexities of human minds and how quickly things can take a dark turn πŸ’” i feel like we need to support mental health resources for young people, especially those who might be struggling with the pressures of modern life 🀝 it's also important to acknowledge that sometimes, no matter how hard we try, our loved ones can fall victim to violence 😞 anyway, sending love and strength to Julia Boomer's family during this incredibly difficult time ❀️

Ugh, this is just so sad πŸ€•... like, what's going on with young people today? This kid, he's only 22 and already committing something so horrific... I mean, I'm not saying his grandma was a saint or anything, but stabbing her in the kitchen of their own apartment? That's just crazy talk 😱. And now this poor woman is dead... my heart goes out to Julia Boomer's family πŸ€—.

I keep thinking about how some people deal with stress and mental health issues, especially at such a young age... it's like, what resources were available to Jackson King back then? Did he even know where to go or who to talk to? I mean, we're always talking about gun control and school safety, but mental health is just as important 🀝. We need to make sure that our young people have the support they need, before things escalate like this... it's just too sad πŸ˜”

I'm so shocked, like, what's wrong with this kid? His grandma just dies from his own hands... I mean, how could he do that to her? 🀯 But at the same time, I don't know if we should be making assumptions about him being completely crazy or whatever. Maybe there was some stuff going on in his life that drove him to do something like this...

And I gotta say, it's kinda weird that no one knows who his lawyer is right now. Like, isn't that a thing? shouldn't someone know who he's got representing him after something like this happens? And what's with the whole "psychotic episode" thing? Is that even a reliable way to explain violent crime? I don't know, man...

It's still pretty crazy though... eight murders in two years is like, not great for NYC. But overall homicides are down, so that's kinda good, right? πŸ€”

.. this is just so sad πŸ˜” Can you imagine some young bloke, barely out of his teens, losing it like that and ending up killing his own grandma? It's just heartbreaking πŸ’” I mean, mental health issues are getting more and more talked about these days, but it's still a shock when someone does something like this. The fact that he was having a psychotic episode at the time doesn't make it any easier to understand... my grandpa used to have those kinds of episodes, too, back in the day πŸ’€ And now his grandma is gone 🀯 Anyway, I hope King gets some proper help and support while he's in there... we can all learn from this and try to do better, right? πŸ’•
