Brooklyn man parachuted off Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge after NYC Marathon, cops say

Man parachutes off Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge during NYC Marathon, police say.

A daring stunt gone wrong ended in arrest for a Brooklyn man on Sunday evening, as authorities closed in on the suspect who allegedly parachuted off the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and into nearby Calvert Vaux Park. According to eyewitnesses, the dramatic scene unfolded at 4:56 p.m. when police received calls about an "unlicensed aircraft" in the area.

Jonathan Warren, a 40-year-old resident of Bedford-Stuyvesant, was apprehended by officers from the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit shortly after. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and subsequently charged with reckless endangerment.

The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, which is typically off-limits to pedestrians and bicyclists, reopened to traffic on Sunday following a closure for the New York City Marathon. In recent years, the MTA has invested significant funds to enhance safety measures along the bridge's edges, including a $32 million project that saw safety fencing installed in 2021.

Warren's stunt raises concerns about public safety and highlights the ongoing efforts by authorities to prevent such incidents. As one official noted, "The MTA has taken steps to make this area safer for everyone," and it appears that enforcement of these measures is being taken seriously.

Can you believe some people still think they're above the law? I mean, jumping off a bridge with a parachute during a marathon? That's just crazy talk! 🤯 The NYPD did a great job catching this guy before anyone got hurt. It's good to know that the MTA's safety measures are being taken seriously, but it's also a reminder that some people need to be reminded of basic common sense and respect for public spaces.

I remember when I was younger, we used to have these crazy stunt shows on TV and they would always end with someone getting hurt. It's just not worth the risk, you know? 🤔 And what's with the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit being called in? I mean, it's not like the guy was some kind of high-stakes thief or anything. Just a reckless stuntman who got caught. 🚨

🤯♂️ Like what was he thinking?! Jumping off a bridge during a marathon? That's just crazy talk! 🙅‍♂️ I mean, I get that some people might think it's cool or something, but come on, it's not worth the risk of losing your life. 😬 And to make matters worse, he went into a park instead of even trying to land somewhere safe. What if someone got hurt? 🤕 The NYPD did the right thing by catching him and charging him with reckless endangerment. We need more people like them keeping our city safe! 💯

What a harrowing incident on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge! The fact that Jonathan Warren's daredevil stunt ended in arrest highlights the importance of enforcing safety protocols in public spaces 🚨. It's reassuring to know that authorities are taking a proactive approach to prevent similar incidents, given the bridge's history of being off-limits to pedestrians and bicyclists. I do wonder, though, what prompted Warren to attempt this feat, and whether the recent investment in safety measures has been effective in deterring such behavior? 🤔

idk why ppl still tryin to jump off bridges during marathons lol its like 2018 all over again 🤦‍♂️ I mean, i remember back in the day when people would literally just jump off the Brooklyn Bridge and into the river 😬 but now they're tryin to take it up a notch by parachute-ing off the Verrazzano-Narrows 🎯 its crazy how reckless some ppl are, like dont they watch those superhero movies where ppl jump off buildings and land on their feet? 🤷‍♂️ anyway, good job to the cops for chasin down the guy and keeping everyone safe 👮‍♂️

idk why people are making a big deal outta this guy jumping off the bridge 🤷‍♂️ like, who hasn't done something crazy during a marathon before? i mean, sure, maybe he wasn't exactly supposed to do it, but come on, it's not like he was gonna hurt anyone... unless you count the people freaking out on social media 😂. and another thing, what's with all the focus on safety measures being installed along the bridge? isn't that kinda obvious? if someone really wants to jump off, they're gonna do it no matter what. might as well just make a statement about it, right? 🤪
