Bulls announce rookie Noa Essengue needs season-ending shoulder surgery

Bulls Rookie Noa Essengue's Season Cut Short by Shoulder Surgery

A heartbreaking setback for the Chicago Bulls has come in the form of 18-year-old forward Noa Essengue, who will undergo surgery on his left shoulder and miss the remainder of the season. The news was announced by head coach Billy Donovan during a press conference prior to Wednesday's game against the Nets.

Essengue had been with the team since being drafted with the 12th overall pick in June, but his limited playing time – just six minutes so far this season – hinted at his potential as a project. Unfortunately, that potential took a hit when it was revealed he needed surgery to repair a shoulder issue.

Donovan explained that Essengue had been seeking second opinions and was advised to have the procedure now rather than waiting, which could lead to further complications down the line. "The decision was made [Wednesday], and I think he has," Donovan said of Essengue's final call on the surgery. The coach acknowledged the young player's disappointment but stressed that it's a necessary step towards his recovery.

Essengue faces a lengthy road to recovery, with at least six weeks off from any activity following the surgery and an additional six to seven months before he can return to full-contact basketball. While this is a significant blow to his development, the Bulls are committed to helping him recover and regain strength through targeted weightlifting and dietary changes.

The team's focus on Essengue's rehabilitation has been bolstered by the experience of teammates Ayo Dosunmu and Coby White, who have also undergone shoulder surgeries. Donovan emphasized the importance of Essengue leveraging his peers' expertise in the recovery process.

With a significant portion of the season lost, the Bulls will need to find creative ways to support their young player as he navigates this challenging time. While it's clear that no one is more disappointed than Essengue himself, the team is committed to helping him regain his strength and confidence on the court.

man... πŸ€• I'm so bummed for Noa Essengue, the Bulls rookie has been trying to make a name for himself all season but now it looks like he's gonna be sidelined for a while. I get that surgery is necessary but it's still super disappointing for him and the team. πŸ˜” The coach is right though, targeted weightlifting and dietary changes will help him regain strength, but it's gonna take time. πŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈ At least the team has his back and they're gonna support him through this recovery process. It's like, I want to see Essengue succeed so bad, but now I'm just gonna have to wait a bit longer... πŸ•°οΈ

Ugh πŸ€• another injury affecting a young pro πŸ˜” I mean, can't they just get it right for once? πŸ™„ Noa Essengue was showing some promise, but now he's gonna miss the rest of the season πŸ’” that's like 2/3 of the year gone in an instant. And with the team already having to deal with their own injuries πŸ€•... what are the chances they can just have a healthy, complete season? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ It's all about the money and how much these young players are worth πŸ’Έ. The Bulls need to step up their medical support or risk losing more talent 😬

😐 this is a huge bummer for Essengue, gotta feel bad for the kid... 18 years old and already dealing with injuries πŸ€• at least he's getting help from the coaches and trainers though, might not be the same as playing with his squad πŸ’” hope he makes a speedy recovery so he can get back out there and show what he's got πŸ’ͺ

man this sucks for noa essengue πŸ€• hope he recovers well from shoulder surgery gonna miss him on the court but atleast he's getting help from the team & his teammates 🀝 it's all about taking care of him now so he can come back stronger in the future πŸ’ͺ

aww man :( πŸ€•πŸ€ Noa Essengue's season got cut short like that? poor kid gotta go thru shoulder surgery now 😷 6 weeks off activity then another 6-7 months before he can even think about playing again... that's a looong road to recovery πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’ͺ the bulls are all supportive tho, great that they're gonna help him out with weightlifting and diet changes πŸ€πŸ€ gotta feel for essengue, hopefully he comes back stronger than ever πŸ’₯

ugh man this is so disappointing πŸ€• essengue was gonna be the real deal 6 minutes of playtime isn't even a blip on the radar for his potential πŸ˜’ donovan seems like a good coach but gotta wonder if they did everything to prevent this from happening in the first place πŸ’Έ anyway, at least he's getting help from the big dudes on team 🀝 hoping he comes back stronger next season πŸ™
