California’s Gavin Newsom slams Trump absence at COP30 climate conference

California Governor Gavin Newsom delivered a scathing rebuke to President Donald Trump on Tuesday, saying that his administration's absence from COP30 climate conference was an "abdication of duty" and an "abomination." This marked a significant departure for Trump, who has repeatedly clashed with Newsom over various issues.

Newsom took aim at the Trump administration's lack of representation, arguing that it created an opening for China to exert greater influence on the global stage. The California governor highlighted the US's economic interests in clean energy and suggested that the country was losing ground if it fails to participate.

Newsom also criticized Trump's climate policies, labeling them as a "hoax" and saying that they disregard scientific consensus. He pointed out that the Trump administration has proposed allowing offshore drilling along the California coastline, an area previously protected by law.

During the COP30 conference, Newsom spoke about his efforts to protect California's coastline from further drilling. Notably, he stated that the proposal was "dead on arrival" and questioned why it broke during the event, which he believed was a deliberate attempt by Trump to draw attention away from his administration's climate policies.

Newsom also criticized Trump's military actions against drug-smuggling boats in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean, labeling them as extrajudicial killings. He called for an end to these attacks and urged world leaders to stand up against Trump's unilateral actions.

In a broader context, Newsom addressed concerns about Trump's hold on power, stating that his presidency is "temporary" and likening him to an "invasive species." When pressed for solutions, Newsom suggested changing language around climate change policies to make them more accessible to the public, using metaphors that resonate with voters.

While Newsom refrained from directly addressing his own ambitions to succeed Trump as president, his comments marked a significant moment in their ongoing feud. With the 2026 midterm elections approaching, Newsom is likely to position himself as a strong alternative to Trump's leadership style.

I was watching this crazy video of a sea otter playing with seaweed and it made me think about how climate change affects marine life 🐿️. I mean, did you know that California is home to like 30 million sea creatures? It's crazy to think about the impact our actions have on their habitats. Anyway, back to Newsom - I'm not sure if he's being too hard on Trump or just trying to be the hero of COP30 😊. As a side note, has anyone tried that new plant-based milk alternative at Starbucks? I heard it's pretty good! 🤔

🤔 just read this and gotta say, I'm surprised by Gov Newsom going all out like that 🙌 he seems super passionate about climate change and it's awesome to see him standing up for what he believes in 💚 his scathing rebuke of Trump is definitely a departure from their usual sparring matches 🤺♂️ but let's be real, this is just the beginning of their rivalry 🔥 with the 2026 midterms coming up, I'm expecting some serious mudslinging between Newsom and Trump 📰 it'll be interesting to see how this all plays out 👀

I just got back from a hike and saw this really cool sunset 🌅... anyway, what I was thinking about Gavin Newsom's speech at COP30... I don't know if it's true that he called out Trump for abandoning the climate conference, but like, shouldn't leaders actually care about the planet? It feels kinda weird to me that they're debating this while there are people struggling with access to clean water and electricity...

I've been thinking about what makes a good leader... is it just about getting things done or is it also about listening to others? And what's up with Trump's climate policies, like, doesn't he care about the future of the planet? 🤔

Oh, and have you guys seen that new documentary on Netflix about renewable energy? It was really interesting and I'm kinda inspired now...

Trump's climate policies are literally 🤦‍♂️ crazy! California is all about clean energy and reducing our carbon footprint, but he's over here like "it's a hoax" 🙄. Newsom's right on point though - we need world leaders to come together and address this global issue. I mean, China's already stepping in to fill the void left by the US, and it's not looking good for our economy 💸. Trump's approach is all about politics and power plays, but we can't afford to wait around for him to make a decision 🕰️. We need action now!

🤔😒 Trump's climate policies are straight outta crazytown 🌪️♂️💨 Newsom is like "hey, come on guys, science says otherwise" 🤓♂️🌎 But seriously, the US should be leading on clean energy, not lagging behind 😴🌫️ California's coastline is protected for a reason 🏖️🐳 The Trump admin's proposal to drill off the coast is just plain weird 🤷‍♀️ And those military actions against drug-smuggling boats? Not cool 🚫💥 We need world leaders to stand up to him, not back down 👊🌟

😒 Trump's absence from COP30 climate conference is just another example of how out of touch he is with reality. Like, I mean, come on, dude - climate change isn't exactly a new thing 🌡️... his admin's lack of representation at the conference is basically a free pass for China to swoop in and steal our eco-innovation crown 🏆. It's like, have you guys even looked at California's coastline? 🌊 we're already dealing with oil spills and whatnot, but Trump wants to drill more? That's just crazy talk! 💥 I mean, I know he's got his fans, but for real, when are they gonna wake up and realize that climate change isn't a hoax? 🤦‍♂️ Newsom is right on point here... it's time for some actual leadership, not just empty rhetoric. 💬

I gotta say, Governor Newsom just SLAYED it on climate policy!!! 🤩 He was so bold and unapologetic about calling out Trump's administration for their lack of action on the biggest issue of our time - climate change! I mean, can you blame him? It's like, what's next gonna be an open door for China to swoop in and take over? 😬 Newsom's got some serious guts to speak truth to power like that. And let's be real, those offshore drilling plans were just a total joke 🤣. I love how he framed it as "dead on arrival" - Trump's got some serious egg on his face now! 💥 The thing is, we need leaders who are willing to take a stand and fight for what's right, even when it's hard. And Governor Newsom just proved he's one of them 👏

idk why people even care about climate change so much? can't we just talk about something else? like have you tried that new pizza place downtown? i heard their slices are fire 🍕 and also what's up with offshore drilling? isn't that, like, a major no-go in california now? anyway, newsom seems pretty passionate about this stuff... guess he really wants to be president one day 💁‍♀️

LOL what's with Trump's climate denial 🤦‍♂️?! Like, come on man, science is on our side! His policies are literally killing us (pun intended) 🌪️. And offshore drilling? Are you kidding me? That's like playing Russian roulette with the planet's future 💥. Newsom's right, we need to take action NOW. Trump's presidency is already feeling like a toxic waste dump 🚮, let's just hope we can get rid of him before he causes any more damage 🚫.

I'm like totally shocked by what Gavin Newsom said about Trump's climate policies 🤯! I mean, it was like someone took all the worst parts of the Bush era and put them in one speech 🙄. And can you believe he called their climate efforts a "hoax"? That's like saying the entire science community is wrong... which we know they're not 🚫.

It's so sad that we're still stuck in this climate conversation, trying to figure out how to address it all. I remember back in '07 when Al Gore first came on the scene and started talking about global warming... people thought he was crazy 😂. But now it's like, come on, guys! We know this is real! 🌎

I don't know about Trump's climate record, but I do think Newsom has a point about needing to make these policies more accessible to the public 🤝. Maybe they could use some of those old '90s environmental PSA ads from The Nature Conservancy... you know, the ones with the cute animals and the serious message? 🐦

Anyway, it's clear that this is going to be a major part of the 2026 elections... and I'm kinda hoping Newsom comes out on top 🏆.

What's up with Trump not showing up to this climate conference 🤔? Like, what's the deal? I get that he thinks it's all a hoax, but come on, science is science, right? And now China gets to just fill the void and do whatever they want? Not cool, dude 😒. California's coastline is already protected, so why bother proposing more drilling? Just seems like Trump is trying to distract us from his own lack of climate action 🤦‍♂️. And those military actions in the Caribbean Sea? Extrajudicial killings, man... we should be focusing on world leaders working together, not just talking trash 💔. 2026 midterm elections can't come soon enough, I'm excited to see what changes we'll get 👍
