Champions League highlights to stay on BBC until 2031

BBC Secures Rights to Champions League Highlights Until 2031, Deal Set to Extend Coverage for Four More Years.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has secured the rights to broadcast highlights of the men's UEFA Champions League until the end of the 2030-31 season. The deal is set to extend coverage for four more years, bringing it in line with the current three-year agreement that started from the 2024-25 season.

According to Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport, "The Champions League is the pinnacle of European club football and we're delighted to be providing a free-to-air option for fans who want to see every goal and moment that matters." The highlight package will continue to air on BBC One at 22:00 on Wednesday evenings, with additional content available on iPlayer, Sounds, radio, and digital platforms.

The extended deal complements the BBC's existing domestic football rights, including Premier League highlights and live FA Cup coverage. It also includes a Match of the Day programme that will bring viewers all the goals, reaction, and analysis from each week's Champions League fixtures.

Meanwhile, US media giant Paramount has secured the rights to show Champions League matches in the UK for four years from 2027, marking an end to the BBC's exclusive broadcast deal. This new agreement is set to significantly impact the way fans watch European football in the country.

The BBC's football portfolio also includes coverage of major international tournaments such as the World Cup, Men's Euro, and the Olympic Games, among others. The corporation continues to be a leading voice in sports broadcasting, with its high-profile deals ensuring that UK audiences have access to the best football content from around the world.

I'm so down for this BBC deal 🤩. I mean, who doesn't love watching all the highlight reels of those fancy European soccer matches? The fact that it's free-to-air is a bonus, especially for casual fans or those who just want to catch up on their favorite teams. And let's be real, it's about time someone like the BBC got to decide what we get to see in terms of sports coverage 🙄. I'm not sure why we need all these extra platforms like iPlayer and Sounds, but hey, more options is always better, right? Plus, with Paramount swooping in to show matches for four years from now, it's clear the BBC wants to keep its exclusive deal alive 💪. Bring on the Champions League highlights!

man this is wild 🤯 like what even is happening with sports rights now? BBC getting all these highlights for 4 more years but then Paramount comes along and screws it up for us in the uk 🙄. can't wait to see what they'll do with the games though, hopefully it's better than the football on tv right now 📺. anyway, still stoked we're gonna get to see all that Champions League action for free 🎉 even if it is just highlights 😊

Its about time someone brings some stability to our beloved football highlights 🏆👍 BBC securing rights for Champions League until 2031 is huge news for us Brits! I mean, can you imagine having to watch those epic goals on a dodgy streaming service or worse, US TV 😱. Thanks to the BBC, we'll get to enjoy every goal and moment that matters, free from charge 🙌. Plus, it's awesome they're making all that content available on iPlayer, Sounds, radio, and digital platforms - perfect for our busy lives 💻. Now, if only someone could sort out those weird international tournament schedules... 😩

I'm not sure why they need four more years of highlights... 🤔 I get it, it's popular and all, but can't we just see the full match like normal people do? 😂 It feels like we're missing out on something by only getting the highlights. And now that Paramount is getting in on it too, I'm worried our viewing experience is gonna get watered down... 📺

This is big news for football fans in the UK 😊. I mean, four more years of Champions League highlights on BBC One sounds like a dream come true. But, at the same time, it's kinda weird that US media giant Paramount is getting the rights to show matches in the UK from 2027... it feels like they're encroaching on our territory 🤔. Still, I guess it's all about giving fans more options, right? And who knows, maybe we'll even get to watch some American players competing in the Champions League 🌎🏆

omg i'm like soooo hyped for this 🤩!! the bbc getting these rights is literally a dream come true for any football fan! i mean who doesn't love watching those highlight reels every wednesday evening on bbc one? 📺 i've got my friends coming over every week just to watch match of the day together 🤣 and now they're adding more content to iplayer too?! that's just amazing 🙌. but seriously, it's great for british audiences to still have access to all this epic football coverage 💪
