China is bearing down on Taiwan – enabled by Trump's weakness and vacillation | Simon Tisdall

China's aggressive push for control over Taiwan has been quietly gathering momentum, with the country increasingly relying on "coercion" and "pressure" rather than outright force. The key to Beijing's strategy lies in its ability to isolate Taiwan economically and diplomatically, rendering it increasingly vulnerable to a "green light" from China.

According to analysts, Chinese leader Xi Jinping's preferred approach is one of "encompassing coercion," designed to gradually squeeze Taiwan until it surrenders or capitulates. This "anaconda strategy" aims to create the perception that Beijing's power is overwhelming, while also fostering doubts in the US about intervening on behalf of its traditional ally.

However, it appears that China's efforts are being hampered by what can only be described as a lack of intelligence from Washington. The recent phone call between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping has left many wondering whether the US president will prioritize a major trade deal with Beijing over his historic commitments to Taiwan.

The Taiwanese government has long warned about the dangers of China's aggressive tactics, but its concerns have fallen on deaf ears in some quarters. The country's President Lai Ching-te recently stated that the situation is becoming increasingly dire, warning that browbeaten Taiwanese citizens may simply give up rather than fight back against Beijing's pressure.

But the issue goes beyond Taiwan's immediate fate. China's relentless expansionism has far-reaching implications for global stability, with many experts warning of a looming "war" between Beijing and Taipei, as well as Washington. And yet, the US seems woefully unprepared to counter what can only be described as an aggressive strategy by one of its key allies.

In recent years, China has been steadily building up its military presence in the Taiwan Strait, while also deploying advanced cyber-warfare capabilities aimed at undermining Taipei's defenses. But Beijing's tactics have been somewhat undermined by its own internal divisions and ideological inconsistencies.

Perhaps most worrying is the impact of Trump's " flip-flopping" on US policy towards China. Having initially waded into trade tensions with Beijing, the president has since appeared to abandon his initial stance, instead gushing gratitude for an invitation to visit Xi Jinping in Beijing next April. The implications are clear: the US may be seen as willing to sacrifice its commitments to Taiwan in favor of a "big, beautiful" trade deal.

As experts warn, China's actions will only continue to escalate unless Washington takes a firm stance against Beijing's aggression. History has repeatedly shown that compromising with aggression only leads to conflict and enslavement. The question is whether the US can still be persuaded to learn from history before it's too late.

🤔 what's going on in china?? they're trying to take over taiwan?! but how far are they willing to go? 🤷‍♀️ i mean, they've got this whole "coercion" and "pressure" thing down, but at what point do they start using force?! 💥 it's like, beijing is just waiting for the green light from china to make a move on taiwan... but what if the us isn't gonna back them up?! 🤦‍♂️ does trump really think that trade deals are more important than standing up to china? 🤑 i don't get why the us is being so wishy-washy about this... shouldn't they be taking sides with taiwan instead of trying to make a deal with china?! 😒 what's going on in washington that makes them think compromising with china is gonna work?! 🤔

🤔 China's move on Taiwan seems super scary, but I'm not sure why they're doing this 🤷‍♂️. They keep talking about "coercion" and "pressure", but isn't that just another word for "we're gonna do what we want"? 🙄 It sounds like they're trying to make the US think twice before helping Taiwan, which is a pretty sneaky tactic 😏.

I don't get why China's being so aggressive anyway. They've got their own problems with Tibet and Hong Kong, right? 🤔 And what about all those other countries that are dealing with climate change and stuff? Don't they have enough on their plates already? 🌎

It seems like the US is kinda just sitting there, waiting for China to make its move. Like, what's the point of having a strong military if you're not gonna use it? 💪 I wish they'd just be straightforward about what they want and what they're willing to do. This whole "flip-flopping" thing with Trump is super confusing 🙃.

I think we need to pay more attention to Taiwan's situation, but it also feels like the US is kinda stuck in neutral. Like, I get that China's a big deal and all, but can't they just talk it out or something? 😕

I'm getting really worried about this China situation 🚨🌎. They're not even hiding their intentions anymore, using "coercion" and "pressure" to get what they want from Taiwan. It's like they think the West is just going to roll over and let them take over 😒. But what's even more concerning is that Trump seems to be all over the place when it comes to China. One day he's tough on Beijing, the next day he's singing their praises 🤷‍♂️.

I think this is where Washington's lack of intelligence really comes into play. They're so caught up in the trade talks and the economic benefits that they're not seeing the bigger picture. Newsflash: China's aggression isn't just about Taiwan, it's about global stability and security 🌊.

And let's not forget that Beijing's internal divisions are a major wild card here. If they can't even agree on their own strategy, how do we expect them to succeed in taking over Taiwan or going toe-to-toe with the US? 🤯

The fact is, China's actions are escalating and there needs to be a firm response from Washington. We can't just sit back and let them bully us around anymore 💪. History has shown us what happens when we compromise with aggression: it leads to conflict and enslavement. The question is, will the US learn from that history before it's too late? ⏰

omg, china's tactics are super worrying 🙅‍♂️! if the us gets cold feet over taiwan, that would be a huge fail on their part... china's trying to squeeze them economically and diplomatically, which is basically a recipe for disaster 📉👎 they're using an "encompassing coercion" strategy, which sounds so sneaky 🤐. what if china just keeps pushing until taiwan caves? that would be a huge loss for democracy and freedom in the region 🌎💔

I'm worried about this whole situation 🤕, you know when China is using "coercion" and "pressure" on Taiwan? It sounds like they're gonna squeeze them till they give up... or what if the Taiwanese people just lose hope? 😩 I mean, we've been seeing this kinda thing happening with Hong Kong, it's scary.

And Trump's flip-flopping is super concerning 🙅‍♂️, one minute he's all tough on China and the next he's like "Hey, let's be friends". It's like, what's gonna happen to Taiwan? Is the US really gonna prioritize a trade deal over keeping its commitments?

I don't get why Beijing's trying to isolate Taiwan economically and diplomatically 🤔. Isn't that just a recipe for disaster? And what's with all these internal divisions and ideological inconsistencies within China? It's like they're playing with fire 🔥.

We should be talking about this more, not less 😂. The US needs to take a firm stance against Beijing's aggression or else... I don't know, we might end up in a war. And that would be catastrophic 💥.

lol what's goin on w/ china n taiwan?? they're just tryna strangle the island 2 death lol but xi's strategy is all messed up 1 min coercion, 1 min pressure, sounds like a rookie move lol chinese leader should know better by now btw i was wonderin w/hold china's aggression? is it cos trump's all about that trade deal life & is washnont prepared 2 take on china?? lmao taiwanese ppl r gettin bullied n no one's doin anything bout it. we need 2 talk 'bout this ASAP or else china'll just keep takin over

🤔 the us needs to step up its game on china - like, seriously - they're not just messing around here 🚀 taiwan is basically a pawn in china's massive game of global domination 🎲 and if washington doesn't take control soon, we might see something really bad go down 🔥 but at the same time, trump's "flip-flopping" has been super confusing 🤯 i mean, one minute he's all tough on china, next minute he's schmoozing with xi like they're old pals 😂 either way, it's clear that china is not going to stop until it gets what it wants 💪 and the world needs to wake up and take notice 🔊

🤯 omg china's been quiety building up its power in taiwan and now they're just gonna squeeze them until they surrender? that's straight outta a scary movie 🍿 i mean, we all know xi Jinping is ruthless but come on US how can you not take this seriously? 😬 the recent call with trump is just making things worse, what's going through his head? does he really think a trade deal with china is more important than securing our ally? 🤷‍♂️

🤔 I think this whole thing is a classic case of playing into the hands of your adversary, you know? China's trying to isolate Taiwan and make them think they're outnumbered, but what if that's exactly what Beijing wants us to believe? 🤯 It's like they're saying "pick me" and "leave me alone" at the same time. Meanwhile, Trump is over here playing games with Xi Jinping, making it seem like he's all about the China trade deal. But what's really at stake here? Taiwan's freedom. We need to wake up and realize that China's not just trying to expand its borders, they're trying to erase their own identity and impose their will on everyone else. 💔 It's a scary thought, but we can't afford to get caught sleeping on the job. We need to toughen up and stand firm, like our Taiwanese allies are doing. 🔒

I'm low-key worried about this situation 🤔. China's move on Taiwan feels like a chess game to me - they're playing with fire, trying to isolate them economically and diplomatically. It's crazy how Xi Jinping is using "coercion" and "pressure" instead of force, like he's not even bothered with the whole "world war" thing 😂. But seriously, what's up with the US being so meh about it? I mean, they're making deals with China left and right, but when it comes to Taiwan, they just shrug and say "oh no, we can't get involved." It's like, what happened to America's moral compass?! 🤷‍♂️

Wow 🤯, China's strategy of "encompassing coercion" sounds super sketchy 😬. If the US is really going to prioritize trade deals over Taiwan, that's a huge mistake 🤦‍♂️. I mean, what if Beijing takes advantage of that and does something crazy? 😱

And don't even get me started on Xi Jinping's "anaconda strategy" 🐍... it sounds like he wants to squeeze Taiwan until they can't breathe 🌴. But seriously, has China even thought about the human cost of this strategy? 🤔 People's lives are at stake here, not just politics 💔.

I'm also really worried about the global implications of all this 😨. A war between Beijing and Taipei could have massive ripple effects around the world 🌎. We need to be careful and strategic in our response to China's aggression 🤝.

OMG, I'm like totally freaking out over this China Taiwan situation 🤯💥! They're being super sneaky and using coercion instead of force... it's like a masterclass in psychological warfare 💡. The US has got to step up their game and show Beijing that we won't back down 😂. If they think a trade deal is gonna make us surrender on Taiwan, they've got another thing coming 🤑. The Taiwanese people have been warning about this for ages, but nobody's listening 🗣️. We need to support our friends in Taiwan and not let China bully them around 🤝. This isn't just about Taiwan, it's about global stability and security 💯. If we don't take a stand now, we'll be facing a war that could have devastating consequences 🌪️. We can't let Trump's flip-flopping on trade deals distract us from the real issue here 😒. The US needs to show some backbone and tell China that we won't compromise on Taiwan ⚔️. Let's get behind our allies and stand up for what's right 💪! #TeamTaiwan #StopChina #USsupportTaiwan

💔 China's strategy to strangle Taiwan economically & diplomatically is terrifying, like a ticking time bomb 🕰️. We need the US to snap out of its "trade deal trance" ASAP! 💸😱

man this china thing is getting crazy 😬 they're trying to squeeze taiwan like an anaconda 🐍 but i think washington is just not taking it seriously enough the us president is all over the place with trump and xi Jinping its like they're playing a game of trade tennis 🎾 back and forth between a major deal and taiwan's fate meanwhile china keeps on building up its military presence in the taiwan strait and deploying cyber warfare capabilities to take down taipeis defenses it's not looking good at all 💔
