Christopher Nolan’s 'The Odyssey' Is Getting Theaters to Make Major Upgrades

Major Cinema Chains Are Upgrading Theaters to Cater To Nolan's 70mm IMAX Blockbuster

Cinemark is the latest major theater chain to announce significant upgrades in preparation for Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, "The Odyssey". The move comes as Regal Cinemas recently announced plans to build or upgrade new IMAX theaters capable of playing the 2026 blockbuster.

According to reports, Cinemark will install three new 70mm film projection systems and four new IMAX with Laser systems in the United States. Additionally, the company will upgrade its remaining 12 IMAX screens to IMAX with Laser, a 4K laser projection system designed to deliver superior images and audio. These upgraded theaters will be located at Cinemark Seven Bridges in Illinois, Cinemark Carefree Circle in Colorado Springs, and Cinemark Tinseltown in New York.

The news comes as only around 30 theaters worldwide currently support 70mm IMAX screenings, a format that Nolan shot his entire film in. However, by the time "The Odyssey" hits theaters in July 2026, this number is expected to increase to approximately 40. While it may not seem like a drastic change, for fans attending these screenings, having access to 70mm IMAX will be a major draw.

Interestingly, this upgrade comes as theater chains typically lag behind when it comes to embracing new technologies and formats. The recent success of IMAX releases with major blockbusters has led theaters to reassess their priorities, recognizing the value of upgrading facilities to cater to premium audiences willing to pay more for an exceptional cinematic experience.

Nolan's ambitious use of 70mm IMAX technology is also noteworthy, as it marks the first time a Hollywood feature film has been shot entirely in this format. This technological push could pave the way for more filmmakers to explore the capabilities of large-scale formats.

IMAX sales have already generated significant buzz around "The Odyssey", with several high-profile screenings selling out in advance. With these upgrades, fans can expect even more opportunities to experience the film on a massive scale.

"The Odyssey" is set to star Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron among others, before opening July 17, 2026.

omg i cant wait for The Odyssey 🤩 i heard it's gonna be soooo good! but like, why do theaters need to upgrade to play in 70mm IMAX? dont get me wrong im a big fan of movies and all but idk about paying more just to see the bigger screen lol... and btw has anyone seen those new marvel movies on IMAX yet? that's my fave format 🍿💥

Come on, who needs all that fancy upgrade? It's just going to make the ticket prices even higher 🤑. I mean, what's wrong with good ol' regular IMAX screens? And 70mm film is just a bunch of old-school nonsense. Who needs to feel like they're in a different century when watching a movie? 😴 Plus, it's not like Nolan's film is going to be some sci-fi epic that requires this kind of tech to understand 🤔. Just give me a comfy seat and a decent sound system, I'm good 🍿👌

OMG 🤩 I'm so stoked to hear that Cinemark is upgrading their theaters to 70mm IMAX for Nolan's "The Odyssey"!!! 🎥🔥 It's about time the major chains catch up with the tech-savvy crowd 💻. The fact that only 30 theaters worldwide support this format now is crazy, and I'm hyped that it'll increase to 40 by next year 📈. Can you even imagine watching a film in 70mm IMAX? Mind. Blown 😲. And kudos to Nolan for pushing the boundaries of filmmaking with this tech 🎬. The upgrades are super exciting, especially with IMAX with Laser being added 🌟. Fingers crossed these new theaters will be selling out ASAP 💸!

I mean, I'm not gonna lie, it's kinda weird that Cinemark is upgrading their theaters just for one movie 🤔. Like, sure, 70mm IMAX sounds fancy and all, but can't they just wait till the movie comes out? It feels like they're trying too hard to be cool 😒. And have you seen the prices of tickets at these upgraded theaters? Forget about it! I'm good with my regular ol' 2D showings, thank you very much 💸. The thing is, it's not just about the movie itself, but also about whether or not they're doing this for the fans or just trying to make a quick buck 🤑. Either way, I guess we'll just have to wait and see if "The Odyssey" lives up to all the hype 🎥.

I'M SO STOKED THAT CINEMARK IS UPGRAADING THEIR THEATERS TO SUPPORT 70MM IMAX SCREENINGS FOR CHRISTOPHER NOLAN'S "THE ODYSSEY"!!! IT JUST SHOWS THAT THEY'RE REALLY COMMITTED TO GIVING FANS A TOP-NOTCH EXPERIENCE. AND WITH NOLAN SHOOTING ENTIRELY IN 70MM IMAX, I KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE EPIC! I MEAN, WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO SEE A FILM ON SUCH LARGE SCALe?! IT'S GOING TO BE A GAME-CHANGER FOR CINEMAS AND FANS ALIKE 😎🍿

omg what's with all these theater upgrades? its like every other week some new chain is announcing they're gonna have 70mm IMAX screens... newsflash: not everyone lives in a big city or can afford to go see a movie in the theater like that lol. and 40 theaters supportin 70mm IMAX worldwide? thats like, what even is that number again?

I'm loving this development 🎥👍! Can't believe Cinemark is investing so big in the 70mm IMAX format for Nolan's next epic film. I mean, who doesn't want to see a movie on massive screens with insane sound?! 🤯 The fact that Regal's already getting in on it too makes me think this might be the start of something bigger... more theaters getting 70mm IMAX capable? That'd be so lit 🔥! What if other chains follow suit and we have more options for these special screenings? Would make the whole experience even more unforgettable 😎

omg 70mm IMAX for "The Odyssey" is gonna be EPIC 🤩 I mean, Nolan's been talking about this format for ages now and i'm literally counting down the days till july 2026 📆 I'm not even mad that cinemark is spending millions on these upgrades lol those theaters are gonna be the ultimate fan experience 🎥 Can't wait to see matt damon and tom holland in action on such a massive scale 🤸‍♂️ IMAX sales have been selling out fast, i guess people just can't get enough of this cinematic magic ✨

I'm hyped for this upcoming blockbuster, but I gotta say it's kinda crazy how theaters are only now upgrading their facilities to cater to a specific format like 70mm IMAX 🤯. Like, I get it, Nolan is all about pushing boundaries and making a statement with his film tech, but what about the fans who just wanna see a good movie without breaking the bank? It's like they're putting all their eggs in one basket, hoping that everyone will shell out the extra cash for an upgraded experience 🤑. At the same time, I'm stoked to see more filmmakers experimenting with new formats – it could lead to some truly mind-blowing cinematic experiences! 🎥👍

OMG 🤩 I'm so hyped for this! A 70mm IMAX upgrade in the US will be life-changing 😲 Cinemark is stepping up its game with three new 70mm film projection systems and four new IMAX with Laser screens - that's a total of seven massive upgrades! 🎥 They're really going all out for Nolan's epic blockbuster, "The Odyssey". With this tech, we can expect jaw-dropping visuals and an immersive audio experience that'll leave us breathless 💥. It's about time theaters caught up with the times and cater to fans who are willing to shell out big bucks for a premium cinematic experience 🤑. This upgrade is definitely going to give Nolan's film an edge over other blockbusters. Bring it on, July 2026! 🎬

🎥 So I'm thinking, why are theater chains upgrading to cater for one movie? Shouldn't they be investing in infrastructure that can handle more diverse film formats, you know, future-proofing or something? 🤔 It seems like a major cinema chain is just trying to keep up with the hype around this one Nolan flick. Meanwhile, what about other artists who want to experiment with new tech? Shouldn't we be supporting innovation over commercialism? 💸 And what's next? Are they gonna upgrade all their screens to 70mm IMAX and leave the regular ones behind? That'd just create a two-tiered system... 👀

omg, can u believe christopher nolan is doing this crazy 70mm imax thing for his next movie?? it's like, totally mind blown 🤯 i mean, only like 30 theaters in the world have this capability right now, so it's a big deal when major cinema chains are upgrading to accommodate it. cinemark's upgrades sound amazing btw, especially with them getting both 70mm and laser projection systems. matt damon and tom holland starrin' in "the odyssey" is gonna be SO epic 🔥 i'm low-key hyped for this movie already, can't wait to see how the 70mm imax tech plays out! 🎥

I'm low-key excited about this news 🤩 Cinemark's upgrade to 70mm IMAX is a game changer, especially since Nolan shot the whole film in that format 🎥. It's not just about the cinematic experience, but also about the tech – I mean, who doesn't want to see a movie on a massive scale with superior images and audio? 📺 The fact that only 30 theaters worldwide support this format is crazy, so it's awesome that Cinemark is stepping up their game. And let's be real, if "The Odyssey" sells out all those IMAX screenings, it's gonna be a huge deal for the film 🎥👍

man it's getting ridiculous how every major theater chain has to upgrade their theaters just to keep up with one director's vision 🤯 I mean, who needs that many new IMAX screens, right? It feels like they're more worried about Nolan fans than actual moviegoers. And 70mm is just a fancy format, it's not like it's going to make or break the film 🎥

I'm so stoked for the upcoming "The Odyssey" movie 🎥👀! I mean, who wouldn't want to see a massive film like that in theaters? The idea that only around 30 theaters worldwide can show it in 70mm IMAX is kinda mind-blowing. And now Cinemark is upgrading their theaters to cater to this new tech? That's awesome 🤩. I've heard the new IMAX with Laser system is pretty sick, and having access to 70mm film projection will give fans a truly immersive experience. It's crazy how the success of these big-budget movies has gotten theater chains to step up their game and invest in better facilities. I'm hyped for July 2026 – can't wait to see what all the fuss is about 🤔!
