City Council poised to OK major land-use changes for Long Island City, Queens

😐 I'm all for seeing Long Island City get some love, but 15k new homes sounds like a lot to me 🤯. Is the city sure we can handle that many more people? We already have traffic jams, ain't nobody got time for that 😩. And what about those affordable units? They gotta be legit, not just lip service 💁‍♀️. If it's gonna be a "richer, whiter neighborhood", is that really what the city wants? 🤔

🤯 I've got the tea on Long Island City's rezoning plan... From what I've heard from my sources (lol), it's gonna be a wild ride! 🌃 I mean, 15k new homes? That's a lot of people moving in, and I'm sure some of them will love it. But let's be real, it's also gonna push up prices and displace some long-time residents who can't afford the rent anymore 🤕. The city's trying to make Long Island City an "integrated" community, but from what I've seen on social media, people are super worried about gentrification and losing their identity in the process 😬. And don't even get me started on the new high-rises... they're gonna be huge! 🌆 But hey, at least the city's committing $900m to infrastructure upgrades and public housing, right? That's gotta count for something 💸. What do you guys think about this rezoning plan?

omg i dont think its a good idea for long island city 2 become more gentrified like that its gonna be so hard 4 ppl who have been livin there 4eva they might get priced out of their own neighborhood 🤕🏠 the new ppl coming in w/ big bucks might just make it another area like astoria or park slope 🌆
