Closing Windows 11’s Task Manager accidentally opens up more copies of Task Manager

Windows 11 users who've upgraded to the latest October update preview are experiencing a bizarre issue with the Task Manager. When attempting to close the task manager window, some apps aren't shutting down as expected, and opening it again results in multiple instances of the process spawning on top of each other.

This phenomenon occurs when users try to close the Task Manager window, but Windows doesn't properly terminate the process. Instead, a new instance of Task Manager opens, taking up around 20MB of system RAM and using a negligible amount of CPU. If this happens frequently or over an extended period without rebooting, it can lead to performance degradation and potentially impact battery life.

The issue seems to be confined to users with Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 that have installed the optional October update (KB5067036). Microsoft hasn't yet acknowledged this problem as a known issue on their list, but multiple users and outlets have replicated the bug. Until then, those looking to permanently close Task Manager can use the command line or manually terminate each instance within the task manager itself.

To avoid getting caught up in an infinite loop of Task Managers, Windows enthusiasts are advised to be cautious when navigating this particular feature.

Ugh, I'm so over this new windows update 🤯! I upgraded to 11 a few weeks ago and now my task manager is driving me crazy 😩. I'm trying to close it but it just opens up again and again like some kind of loop 💀. And why does it take up so much RAM, dude?! 🤦‍♂️ It's annoying because it's slowing down my computer and killing my battery life 🔋. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not a tech expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be happening like this 💔. Maybe Microsoft will get around to fixing it eventually, fingers crossed 🤞!

🤔 I've been using Task Manager for ages and I never thought it could get so wonky 😂. So some users are having issues where apps don't shut down right and new instances keep popping up? That's wild. And 20MB of RAM taken up by Task Manager? That's like, what, a fraction of the phone's storage? Anyway, Microsoft needs to address this ASAP 'cause it can mess with performance and battery life. Hopefully they'll squash this bug soon 💻👍

omg u guys, i'm seeing this on my win11 24h2 too!! 😱 it's so annoying when ur trying to close task manager but it just won't budge! 🤯 i've tried using the command line & manually terminating each instance, but ugh, that's not a long-term solution at all... 🙄 can't microsoft get this sorted out ASAP?! 💥

🤔 I'm telling you, something fishy is going on here... This Task Manager issue isn't just a coincidence, it's like Microsoft is testing the waters to see how far they can push users before we start questioning things. I mean, who needs a proper fix when you can just tell us to use the command line or manually terminate each instance? It's like they're trying to create a scenario where people feel forced to dig deeper into the code... or maybe it's just a cleverly disguised phishing attempt 😏. Mark my words, this isn't over yet!

ugh, what's going on with windows 11?! i just upgraded to the new october update and my task manager is acting crazy 🤯 it keeps opening multiple instances on top of each other like a game of task manager tetris 🎮 and no matter how many times i close it, it just won't shut down properly... meanwhile, my ram is getting all clogged up like 20mb of space is taking over 😱 anyone else experiencing this? 🤔

omg I'm literally so done with these updates!!! 🤯 can't believe microsoft is still dropping bugs like hotcakes. I mean, come on guys, 24H2 and 25H2 already?! shouldn't that mean we're good to go? nope not yet apparently 😒 this task manager issue is a major pain in the butt... anyone else having this problem or was it just me when I tried to close it last night? 🤔

omg dont even get me started on this task manger thing 🙄 it's like windows 11 just decided to play some nasty tricks on us 🤯 i mean whats the point of having a bug that causes performance degradation and battery life issues? 📊🔋 is it too much to ask for a simple thing like closing the task manager window without messing up our whole system 💻 anyway gotta give props to you guys who figured out this workaround, using command line or manually terminating each instance is no joke 😅 just hope msft gets their act together and fixes this ASAP 🤞

omg I'm so annoyed right now lol did u know that if u try to close task mng multiple times it can freeze ur computer like for real? 🤯 i was trying to close task mng and it kept opening like a new tab on google 📊 but then i remembered what my dad told me to do, use the command line or something 😂 i don't really understand how that works tho... can some1 explain it 2 me pls?

Ugh, what's goin' on with Windows 11?! I just upgraded my laptop last month and now this... I mean, I've seen some weird stuff happenin' with Task Manager before, but this is straight outta crazytown! Can't even close it without openin' a new one every other second? And it's suckin' up all that RAM like there's no tomorrow?! 🤯 I remember when Windows was still decent, not this bloated mess... and what's with the optional update? Microsoft needs to get their act together! 🚫👎

OMG u guys, I'm literally experiencing this issue with my new laptop lol 🤯 i upgraded to windows 11 and now every time i try to close task manager, it just won't shut down 😩 and then i get like 3-4 instances of it popping up on my desktop 📊 is that normal or what?!? i didn't think so 🙄 and now i'm getting worried about my battery life, anyone else having this problem 💻

I feel bad for all you windows 11 users out there experiencing these weird issues with task manager 🤦‍♂️. I mean, who wants a frozen computer or battery drain? It's crazy that this issue is happening to some folks who've already upgraded to the latest October update 🤔. Microsoft needs to acknowledge and fix this ASAP 💻. In the meantime, using command line or manual termination might be a bummer 😐. Anyone got any workarounds to share?
