Company that cans White Claw, Monster Energy and others to open at former South Philly refinery site

New Beverage Canning Giant Brings Jobs to South Philly Refinery Site

A California-based canned beverage manufacturer has taken the reins as the first tenant at Philadelphia Energy Solutions' redeveloped refinery property, dubbed the Bellwether District. DrinkPAK will invest $195 million in its 1.4-million-square-foot cannery, set to open in 2027 and create 174 jobs over the next three years.

The facility, situated near 26th Street and Penrose Avenue, boasts a production capacity of three billion cans per year and is expected to produce, can, package, and store beverages. DrinkPAK's goal is to build a coast-to-coast network, with its flagship East Coast facility in Philadelphia at the heart of this plan.

The South Philly site's proximity to Interstate 95 puts it within a four-hour drive radius for 47 million consumers. This strategic location will undoubtedly open doors to new partnerships with emerging beverage brands in the region, with DrinkPAK aiming to dedicate capacity to startup brands as they emerge.

The redevelopment of the Bellwether District has been years in the making, following Philadelphia Energy Solutions' shutdown in 2019 due to a fire and explosion. HRP Group purchased the property out of bankruptcy for $222 million in 2020, with plans to create a 750-acre industrial logistics hub and a 250-acre campus geared toward life sciences companies.

While concerns over contamination at the site have been raised, DrinkPAK's arrival marks a significant win for the project. The company has received a $2 million grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to support its operations.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker hailed DrinkPAK's decision as proof that the city's business strategy is working, touting the opportunity for high-quality manufacturing and construction jobs to be created in Philadelphia.

omg, can't believe this is finally happening!!! ๐Ÿคฉ drinkpak bringing 174 jobs to south philly refinery site? that's like, awesome news for the community! ๐Ÿ’ช i mean, its not like they were just gonna sit on their hands and do nothing with that huge property. idk how much ppl thought was gonna happen with the bellwether district or whatever... anywho, drinkpak seems legit. 2 mil grant from the state? that's a big deal too! ๐Ÿค‘ we should be rooting for them to make this work.

omg can you believe drinkpak is investing 195 million dollars into their new cannery at south philly refinery site? ๐Ÿคฏ they're gonna create 174 jobs and produce like 3 billion cans per year, talk about a game changer! ๐Ÿš€ i'm not sure what's going on with the contamination concerns but it sounds like drinkpak is committed to making this project work. i mean who doesn't love a good cannery? ๐Ÿบ anyway, it's awesome to see new businesses moving into philly and bringing in revenue, i just hope they don't disrupt the whole neighborhood too much! ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿบ๐Ÿ’ผ This is lit! New cannery means new opportunities for Philly residents ๐Ÿ’ช. Can't wait to see what kind of drinks they'll be makin' ๐Ÿค”. 174 jobs, yeah! Let's keep the momentum goin' ๐Ÿ’จ.

I'm loving this development in South Philly ๐Ÿ™Œ! It's amazing to see a California-based company like DrinkPAK invest $195 million into the area, creating 174 jobs that will have a significant impact on the local economy ๐Ÿ’ธ. The fact that their facility is already being touted as part of a coast-to-coast network is really exciting - it'll be fascinating to see how they navigate logistics and supply chain management ๐Ÿ“ฆ. Plus, with their goal of partnering with emerging beverage brands, I predict we'll see some fresh faces (and flavors) hitting the market soon ๐Ÿน! The city's business strategy is indeed looking up โฌ†๏ธ, and I'm curious to see what other projects come out of this redevelopment.

ugh, another one of these "revitalization" projects ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ... like it's just gonna bring in some jobs and then everyone's all happy and forgets about the environmental issues ๐Ÿšฎ. 174 new jobs is cool and all, but what about the long-term effects on the community? are they even doing any real community engagement or outreach? and $2 million grant from the state is like, a drop in the bucket compared to the $222 million purchase price ๐Ÿค‘... plus, it's DrinkPAK, not some local startup. still, i guess its a win for philly energy solutions' redev deal ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿบ๐Ÿ’ธ so I'm thinking this is a win-win for Philly - we get these new jobs and economic growth, but also some major revitalization on the refinery site that was basically a ghost town after PES shut down ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ’” it's like that scene from The Matrix where Neo discovers the real world, you know? ๐Ÿคฏ and now DrinkPAK is bringing its A-game with this massive investment and production capacity - three billion cans per year?! ๐Ÿคฏ that's some serious business ๐Ÿ’ธ I'm just hoping they'll prioritize sustainability and eco-friendliness, 'cause we can't forget about the planet ๐ŸŒŽ

Wow! 174 new jobs coming to Philly? That's a major win for the city. I'm curious about these startup brands they're going to partner with - what kind of vibes are we talking? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ก Interesting that it's the first tenant at this refinery site, so who knows what other industries will follow suit?

I'm not sure about this one ๐Ÿค”... I mean, on the surface, it sounds like a win-win - 174 new jobs are always something to celebrate! ๐Ÿ’ผ But, have you considered the potential environmental impact of bringing industry to an area with such a toxic history? The refinery site has been a blight on the community for years, and I worry that we're glossing over some serious concerns ๐Ÿšฎ. Still, it's great to see some private investment coming into Philly - just hoping we can get all the facts on the table before we start popping open those DrinkPAK cans! ๐Ÿบ

Just saw this news about DrinkPAK taking over the refinery site in South Philly ๐Ÿค”. I gotta say, it's a big deal! Creating 174 jobs in just three years is no joke. And with the production capacity of three billion cans per year, they're gonna be busy ๐Ÿ’ผ. I'm not surprised to hear that they're looking to partner up with new brands too - Philly's always been a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship ๐Ÿ“ฆ.

But what really gets me excited is seeing this site come back to life after all the years of neglect ๐ŸŒˆ. The fact that HRP Group was able to swoop in and buy it out of bankruptcy for $222 million is just incredible ๐Ÿ’ธ. And now, with DrinkPAK on board, I'm hoping we'll see some real growth and development in the area soon ๐Ÿ“ˆ.

Only thing that's got me a little worried is the contamination concerns - gotta make sure they're taking care of those issues before things get moving ๐Ÿšฎ. But overall, this is a huge win for Philly and I'm stoked to see it happening ๐Ÿ’ฅ!

I'm not sure I'm sold on this one ๐Ÿค”... all this hype around a new cannery just seems like more pollution in our air and water. I mean, are we really that thirsty for canned drinks? And what about the impact on our local ecosystems? We're already dealing with issues from the refinery site, now they're bringing in another industry that could cause more problems down the line ๐ŸŒŠ.

omg u guys drinkpak's new cannery in south philly is gonna be HUGE ๐Ÿคฏ they're talkin 3 billion cans a yr and creating 174 jobs lol what a game changer for the city i'm lowkey hyped about this too - it's awesome to see a new tenant comin in and bringin life to the refinery site ๐ŸŽ‰ did u know they got a $2 mil grant from the state tho? ๐Ÿค‘ that's some sweet sauce ๐Ÿ’ธ

OMG u guys! ๐Ÿคฏ I just got my hands on some deets about this new drink canning plant in South Philly ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿ‘€ And let me tell u it's a BIG DEAL! ๐Ÿ’ธ DrinkPAK is bringing 174 jobs to the area & investing $195 million in their facility ๐Ÿค‘ which is supposed to be a major production hub for beverages. I mean, think about it - this place is literally right off I95 & has access to 47 MILLION people within a 4-hour drive radius ๐Ÿš—๐ŸŒ„ That's like, a whole lotta cans being popped open! ๐Ÿ˜‚ And the mayor is already hyping it up as proof that Philly's business strategy is on point ๐ŸŽ‰. But, tbh, I'm still a lil concerned about the contamination issues at the site ๐Ÿค”. Guess we'll just have to keep an eye on how things play out ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Umm I dont get it why people are hyped about DrinkPAK moving into the refinery site...its not like its gonna solve all our environmental issues lol ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. 174 jobs? that's cute, but think of all the poor souls who'll be breathing in toxic fumes and pollution every day on their way to work ๐ŸŒช๏ธ. And what about the long-term effects on the local community? We're basically trading one set of problems for another ๐Ÿค”. Not to mention the fact that DrinkPAK's goal is to build a "coast-to-coast network"...which just means they'll be expanding their operations and increasing pollution even more ๐Ÿ˜’. Give me a break, let's not get too excited about this ๐Ÿ™„.

OMG you guys I cant even believe what Im reading ๐Ÿคฏ a new cannery opening up at this old refinery site in South Philly is literally the best news ever ๐Ÿ’• I mean 174 jobs are being created which is insane and DrinkPAKs goal of building a coast-to-coast network is so cool ๐ŸŒ I love that they're going to be dedicated to startup brands too that's so awesome ๐ŸŽ‰ and I'm low-key hoping it means more craft breweries and artisanal soda makers will set up shop in the area because who doesn't love a good seltzer? ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿ‘

OMG, like can you even believe a new beverage cannery is taking over the old refinery site in South Philly? ๐Ÿคฏ I'm so hyped for DrinkPAK to bring in those 174 jobs by 2027! It's awesome that they're planning to make a coast-to-coast network, with Philly as the hub. The fact that they're aiming to work with startup brands is super cool too - it's all about supporting local talent and innovation. And on top of that, they're getting a grant from the state for $2 million? That's like, major props! ๐Ÿ’ฏ I'm curious to see how this whole project unfolds and what kind of impact it'll have on the community. Has anyone been following the redevelopment plans? What do you guys think about DrinkPAK taking over the site? ๐Ÿค”

I donโ€™t usually comment but I think itโ€™s really cool that a new company like DrinkPAK is setting up shop in South Philly ๐Ÿคฉ Theyโ€™re creating 174 jobs, which is huge, and they're going to produce tons of cans every year... three billion! That's like, crazy ๐Ÿ’ฅ. And the best part is, they want to work with all these startup brands that are just starting out, so it's like a big boost for the local community. Plus, the fact that they got a grant from the state means they're really committed to making this project happen ๐ŸŽ‰. It's not perfect, I guess there are still some concerns about contamination and stuff... but overall, it sounds like DrinkPAK is going to be a win-win for the city and the environment ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿค” yall gotta think about this - drinkpak comin thru with a $195 mil investment n their own refinery site which gonna create 174 good payin jobs ๐Ÿค‘ but what bout all da concerns 'bout contamination at the site tho? like, we dont wanna have people gettin sick from the chemicals they workin wit ๐Ÿ’€ on da bright side, this means new business comin in & startups gettin a chance to grow ๐Ÿ’ช an its awesome 2 see philly gettin back on de map ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

๐Ÿคฉ I'm low-key hyped about this new cannery coming to South Philly! Creating 174 jobs in a few years is huge news. It's dope that DrinkPAK is investing so much cash into this project, too ๐Ÿค‘. I mean, who doesn't love the idea of having more options when it comes to beverages? The fact that they're planning to build a coast-to-coast network with Philly as the hub is pretty cool, tbh ๐Ÿ‘. And let's be real, it's great for our local businesses and startups to have access to this kind of infrastructure ๐Ÿš€. Now, I'm not exactly sure about the concerns over contamination at the site, but I guess that's a good thing DrinkPAK is tackling it head-on ๐Ÿ’ช. All in all, this is some solid news for Philly! ๐Ÿ˜Š

I think this is super cool ๐Ÿคฉ! A new cannery opening up at the South Philly refinery site is gonna bring a ton of jobs and economic growth to the area ๐Ÿ’ธ. I mean, 174 jobs over three years is nothing to sneeze at ๐Ÿค‘. And with DrinkPAK's goal of building a coast-to-coast network, it'll be interesting to see how they work with local brands and startups in the region ๐Ÿค. Plus, it's awesome that Philadelphia Energy Solutions was able to get back on its feet after that fire and explosion in 2019 ๐Ÿ”ฅ. The city is definitely moving forward and looking out for its businesses ๐ŸŒž. I just hope they can keep up with the demand and production capacity ๐Ÿ’ช... this could be a major win for Philly! ๐Ÿ‘
