**Cook County Launches Electronic Traffic Ticket Pilot Program**
Residents in suburban Cook County will soon have a more convenient way to pay traffic tickets, thanks to a new electronic ticketing pilot program launched by the Circuit Secretary's office this week.
Under the program, drivers who receive e-tickets can access them online just one or two days after receiving them, eliminating the need for a paper ticket and subsequent wait times of up to a week or more. The program is part of a broader effort to modernize the office of the Circuit Secretary.
The new system allows officers to issue electronic tickets that are securely sent to drivers for review before the case is opened in court. This streamlined process will reduce processing times and make it easier for residents to pay their fines online through the website cookcountyclerkofcourt.org/e-citation.
Only certain types of infractions, such as speeding or failure to stop at intersections, are eligible for the electronic ticketing system. Parking and camera-related tickets do not qualify.
The Circuit Secretary's office is looking to expand this program to other municipalities in the county and integrate it with the Chicago Police Department. The office has already introduced new online tools, including a mobile app for paying fines online, an online case search feature, and expanded language services through live interpretation.
This effort is part of a broader push to improve efficiency and modernize outdated systems within the Circuit Secretary's office.
