Didn't get to join ABC13's Share Your Holidays drive? It's not too late to help

Houston Food Bank and ABC13 partner up again for holiday giving, but it’s not too late to help those in need

In a display of generosity that highlights the true spirit of giving during the holiday season, several local organizations have teamed up with the Houston Food Bank to support individuals struggling with food insecurity. The ABC13 Share Your Holidays drive, which kicked off on Giving Tuesday, aims to raise funds and collect donations for meals in southeast Texas.

Since its inception 45 years ago, the drive has continued to grow, collecting millions of cans of food for those who need it most. This year, the Houston Food Bank is expecting to provide over 45,000 meals thanks to a generous donation from Disney and their partnership with Feeding America.

Food insecurity affects many families across southeast Texas, particularly in northern Harris County where nearly half of residents experience moderate or high levels of food insecurity. According to recent data, Hispanic women face the largest gender gap in household food insecurity, highlighting the need for targeted support.

The situation is just as dire statewide, with Feeding Texas reporting that 5.3 million Texans are facing food insecurity – the highest rate in the nation. In rural areas, residents often struggle due to lack of transportation and low wages, while one in four Latinos experience food insecurity at a rate of 24%.

Despite the challenges, there are many ways for individuals to make a difference through the ABC13 Share Your Holidays drive. By donating $1, an individual can provide three meals for those struggling with food insecurity. Donations can be made through text message or by visiting the fundraising page online.

Those looking to help others through this event can find most-needed items such as shelf-stable snacks, canned goods, and drinks on the Houston Food Bank website. With over 1.6 million meals needed this year, ABC13 hopes to exceed its previous record and continue supporting those in need throughout the year.

The importance of this drive cannot be overstated, particularly during a time when food insecurity affects families across southeast Texas. By giving generously and making a difference in someone's life, individuals can help create lasting change in their community.

its kinda wild that people r still struggling w/ food insecurity in 2025 🤯 like, we've come so far as a society, but theres still ppl who cant get a decent meal 🍔🥤 its crazy how the stats show hispanic women r hardest hit, gotta make sure were supporting them more 💕 and its wild that texas is leadin the nation in food insecurity rates 🤯 rural areas are always hit hard cuz of transportation & wages tho 🚗💸

I'm so sorry I'm late to the party 🤦‍♂️. But seriously, this is such an important reminder that even after the holidays are over, there's still so much work to be done for those struggling with food insecurity. I mean, 5.3 million Texans and nearly half of residents in northern Harris County can't just magically fix their own problems 🤔. It takes a community coming together and supporting each other. And let's not forget about the stats on Hispanic women - it's heartbreaking. But honestly, I think this is what the holiday season is all about: spreading love and kindness to those who need it most ❤️. Can we keep the momentum going after the holidays? 🤞

I'm so done with all these charity drives 🤯. Like, I get it, we need to help people out, but can't some of these organizations just cut the BS and focus on solving the real problem instead of just collecting cans of beans? 🍃

And don't even get me started on the fact that Hispanic women are facing this huge gender gap in food insecurity... it's like, what about men who are struggling too?! Can we please have a conversation about intersectional issues instead of just throwing money at the problem and expecting everyone to be okay with it? 💸

I mean, I'm all for helping out those in need, but can't we do something more substantial than just donating food? Like, have you seen the prices of groceries lately?! It's like they're trying to rip us off so we'll just throw some money at them. 🤑

I'm still re-reading about how last year's Share Your Holidays drive was a huge success 🤩, collecting tons of donations for the Houston Food Bank. And it's great to see ABC13 and Disney teaming up again this year! But seriously though, have you seen those stats on food insecurity in Texas? 5.3 million people are struggling... it's just crazy 🤯. And what really gets me is that it's not just a Houston thing - rural areas and communities of color are hit hard too. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how we can make a difference with something as simple as donating $1 🤑. But, like last year, the drive is on until the end of the month, so let's keep giving!

I'm still blown away by how desperate the situation is 🤯. 5.3 million Texans are struggling with food insecurity - that's like, half my own state 🤷‍♀️. It's not just about throwing money or food at the problem, it's about understanding the root causes and supporting those who are most affected 💖. I wish more people would acknowledge the systemic issues here, instead of just doing a good deed and calling it a day 🙏. But hey, every little bit counts, right? Even if you can only donate $1, that's 3 meals for someone in need 🍴. Maybe this is the start of something bigger 💪.

I think it's really sad that so many people in Houston are struggling to get enough food 🤕. I mean, we're living in the US of America, one of the richest countries in the world, and still there are people who can't afford to eat properly? It's just not right.

I like how ABC13 is trying to raise money for the Houston Food Bank, it's a great idea 💡. And I think it's awesome that Disney is donating some serious cash to help out 🎉. But we need to do more, you know? Like, everyone can chip in $1 and provide three meals for those who need it most 👍.

It's also interesting to see that Hispanic women are facing the biggest gap when it comes to food insecurity, that's something we should definitely be aware of and try to address 💖. And the fact that 5.3 million Texans are struggling with food insecurity is just crazy 🤯. We need to step up and make a difference in our community.

I'm not sure what can be done about people who don't have transportation or jobs, but maybe we can look into some kind of support system for those folks? That would be a huge help 🙏. Anyway, I think the ABC13 Share Your Holidays drive is a great initiative and I hope they reach their goal 💪.
