Directive 8020 brings sci-fi survival horror to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on May 12

Supermassive Games has revealed a new date for its upcoming sci-fi survival horror title, Directive 8020, as May 12 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The developer behind Until Dawn and The Quarry has released a fresh trailer to coincide with the announcement.

According to the game's narrative, players find themselves on a spaceship that crash-lands on an alien world, where survivors must contend with a deadly extraterrestrial lifeform capable of mimicking its prey - a concept eerily reminiscent of John Carpenter's classic horror film The Thing. To survive, astronauts will be forced to make tough choices, putting the lives of those on Earth at risk.

Gameplay is largely driven by narrative decisions made by players, including whether to save or abandon crewmates, and segments that require either combat or stealthy evasion. A new feature called Turning Points allows players to revisit previous decisions and opt for alternative paths, potentially leading to different endings or outcomes.

Directive 8020 also introduces a permadeath mode, which eliminates the option to turn back on past choices. The game will support five-player local co-op action, allowing friends to join in for couch-based gameplay. Online multiplayer support is slated for a later release date.

The title's release was initially set for October 2025 but was delayed last July due to Supermassive's layoffs. With the new date announced, fans can now look forward to Directive 8020's May 12 launch and experience this sci-fi survival horror game in all its gory glory.

I'm not sure about this one... A permadeath mode? That sounds super intense ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, it's cool that they're making the player's choices count like that, but isn't it just gonna be frustrating when you have to deal with the consequences of your decisions? Like, what if you save a crewmate and then regret it later? The Turning Points feature seems like a nice way out, tho... might make the game feel more replayable ๐Ÿ˜Š. I'm not sure about co-op though - is it just gonna be a bunch of friends running around together or can they contribute to the story too? ๐Ÿค”

Man, think about it... we're basically playing god with Directive 8020 - our characters' lives are literally in our hands. We have these tough choices that can affect not just the crewmates on the spaceship but also the people back on Earth. It's like, what's the moral cost of saving one life versus sacrificing a few? Is it really worth risking everything for the greater good?

And then there's this permadeath mode - it's like we're making an irreversible decision. Once we choose, there's no going back. That's heavy, you know? It's not just about the gameplay or the story; it's about the weight of our choices.

I'm curious to see how it all plays out on May 12. Will we be able to make the right calls, or will we succumb to the pressure and desperation that comes with survival in space? ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ‘ฝ

omg just saw the trailer for directive 8020 ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ‘ฝ and I'm low-key hyped! i mean, who wouldn't wanna play a game where you have to make super tough choices that could literally kill ppl back on earth? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ like, my anxiety is already going up thinking about those turning points tho... ๐Ÿคฏ can't wait for the mayo release date btw ๐Ÿ“†๐Ÿ‘€ but permadeath mode? ouch! think i'll stick with playing co-op with friends instead ๐Ÿคœ๐Ÿค›

May be a good time to focus on real-life survival instead of video games ๐Ÿค”. People are gonna be scared outta their wits when they play this one, like The Thing vibes ๐Ÿš€. Can't say I'm stoked about the whole permadeath thing, feels like a recipe for anxiety ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Five-player co-op might bring some excitement though ๐Ÿ‘ฅ.

ugh I'm getting super excited for Directive 8020 ๐Ÿคฏ it sounds like such a thrilling ride! the whole "mimicking lifeform" thing is straight out of The Thing vibes, and I love how the gameplay is heavily driven by narrative decisions - it's like you're really making those tough choices that'll haunt your crewmates ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. but what's up with the permadeath mode? I'm all about replaying games to see different outcomes, so this new feature sounds kinda intimidating ๐Ÿค”. local co-op for 5 players is a nice touch tho! can't wait to play it out with my squad on may 12 ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ‘ฝ

Omg, I'm so stoked about Directive 8020 ๐Ÿคฉ! The new trailer is giving me major chills ๐Ÿ˜ฑ and the gameplay mechanics sound insane ๐Ÿ’ฅ. I love how it's all about making tough choices that affect the story and crewmates - it feels super immersive and intense. The permadeath mode sounds super realistic too, like, what if you make a choice that leads to your own demise? ๐Ÿคฏ And 5-player local co-op is a total win for me, I'm always down for some multiplayer action ๐Ÿ‘ซ. The delay was a bummer, but at least they're giving us more time to get hyped ๐Ÿ˜…. May 12 can't come soon enough! โฐ

omg I'm so hyped for this game!!! ๐Ÿคฏ turning points seems like such a cool feature lol can u imagine if u had to make those same choices over again but with a different outcome? ๐Ÿ˜‚ what do u think about permadeath mode tho? is it gonna be super punishing or just a fun challenge? btw has anyone played any good sci-fi games lately that I should know about? ๐Ÿš€

๐Ÿคฉ OMG, I'm so hyped for Directive 8020! The new trailer looks so intense and the concept of a ship crashing on an alien world is giving me life ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’ฅ! The fact that players can make tough choices that affect the lives of those on Earth is super intriguing - it's like you're playing a real-life game of Risk, but instead of countries, you're saving humanity ๐Ÿ’ช!

I'm also loving the new feature, Turning Points. I mean, who doesn't love getting to go back and try again? ๐Ÿ˜‚ It's like having a do-over in life, minus the chance to mess it up again! ๐Ÿคฃ The permadeath mode is also super cool - it adds an extra layer of tension and realism to the game.

And can we talk about the co-op feature for a sec? ๐Ÿคฉ Five-player local co-op action on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC? That's like, total boss mode ๐Ÿ’ฅ. I'm definitely gonna be inviting all my friends over to play this one together. May 12 can't come soon enough! ๐ŸŽ‰

omg directive 8020 is gonna be so intense!! i love the concept of it being like the thing but with a permadeath mode lol that just adds an extra layer of stress to already making tough decisions as an astronaut ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’€. and having a turning points feature is genius! i can see myself playing through the game 5 times trying out different choices ๐Ÿ˜…. 5-player local co-op for couch play is a must-have tho, my squad would freak if we didn't get to play it together ๐Ÿคฉ

Ugh, I'm so glad they finally gave us a solid release date for Directive 8020 ๐Ÿ™Œ. I mean, who needs all that extra time to overthink every little decision? And with the whole turning points feature, it's just gonna be hard to keep track of what's going on in this game... my brain is already getting overwhelmed thinking about it ๐Ÿ˜‚. And don't even get me started on the permadeath mode โ€“ who thought that was a good idea?! ๐Ÿ˜… I swear, some devs just love torturing us with our own choices... and no online multiplayer to make up for it? Come on! Can't they just give us a decent single-player experience already? ๐Ÿคฏ

aww man ๐Ÿ˜Š directive 8020 is gonna be so intense with that thing creature from the trailer... i love how it's all about making tough choices and it seems like each decision can have a big impact on the story ๐Ÿคฏ i also really like the idea of turning points where you can change your mind later, that sounds super cool ๐Ÿ’ก and omg five player local co-op is a must for me, gonna gather my friends and scream together when we play ๐Ÿ˜‚

omg, I'm so hyped for Directive 8020!!! ๐Ÿคฏ The concept of a deadly alien lifeform that can mimic humans is straight out of The Thing... it gives me chills! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Can't wait to play as an astronaut on this spaceship and make those tough choices to survive. And the fact that you can revisit previous decisions with Turning Points sounds like a game-changer - I love how they're adding more replay value to the game. ๐Ÿค” Also, 5-player local co-op is a great addition... who doesn't love playing horror games with friends? ๐Ÿ˜… The permadeath mode better not scare me off from trying new things! ๐Ÿ’€

Ugh, another delay... like that wasn't enough time for them to get everything right ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, what's up with the constant pushes back? It's not like they're trying to build hype or anything... just slowly losing interest in their game, probably. Anyway, a new trailer is always nice, and that concept sounds kinda cool, I guess. The idea of making tough choices is super appealing, but only if it means the game doesn't suck ๐Ÿค”. Permadeath mode? Sounds like a great way to punish yourself... or the devs for screwing up the release date again ๐Ÿ˜’.

OMG u guys!!! I'm SO stoked about Directive 8020!!! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’ฅ it's like, the ultimate sci-fi survival horror game now with a new release date of MAY 12 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC! ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned spaceship crash-landing on an alien world?! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ And the creepy lifeform? Yessssss, it gives me The Thing vibes all over again! ๐Ÿ‘ป But what's really got me hyped is the new feature called Turning Points โ€“ like, can you imagine revisiting those tough choices and seeing what would've happened if u took a different path?! ๐Ÿค” Mind. Blown. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ And 5-player local co-op? Yaaas, bring on some friends for some couch-based gaming action! ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ‘ซ Permadeath mode too? No regrets, no mistakes โ€“ just pure survival horror bliss! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ Directive 8020 is gonna be EPIC, can't wait to play it on May 12!!!

omg ๐Ÿคฏ just saw the trailer for directive 8020 and i'm DYING ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘ฝ it looks like such a wild ride! the idea of having to make tough choices that affect not only your own crewmates but also the lives of people on earth is SO intense ๐Ÿคฏ and the fact that you get to revisit those decisions with turning points? game. changer ๐Ÿ”„ i'm loving the sci-fi vibes and the hint of paranoia from the alien mimic thing... it's like something out of the thing (lol, no pun intended) ๐Ÿ˜‚ anyway, can't wait for may 12th and some serious gaming vibes ๐Ÿ’ฅ

omg i'm so hyped for directive 8020!!! ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ˜ฑ turning points is literally the best thing since sliced bread, i love that players can go back and change their decisions ๐Ÿ”„๐Ÿ’ก it's like having a do-over... kinda ๐Ÿ˜… and permadeath mode sounds super intense ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ‘ป five-player local co-op will be so much fun with friends ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐ŸŽฎ online multiplayer is still a bit of a mystery, but i'm sure they'll get it right eventually ๐Ÿคž

anyway, the trailer looks AMAZING ๐Ÿ“น๐Ÿ”ด and that alien creature is giving me major the thing vibes ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ฒ can't wait to experience this sci-fi survival horror game on may 12 ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿš€

๐Ÿš€ I'm so stoked for Directive 8020! The new trailer looks insane ๐Ÿคฏ. That concept of an alien lifeform that can mimic its prey is straight outta The Thing, which is like, the ultimate horror movie right? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I love how the game puts your choices in these tough situations to the test - it's not just about shooting things, you have to make decisions that affect the entire crew. And now with the ability to revisit past choices and change outcomes... that's some crazy sci-fi stuff ๐Ÿค–. I'm also hyped for the local co-op mode - game nights are gonna get a whole lot more intense ๐Ÿ”ฅ. The only thing that would've made this news better is if there was a release date for online multiplayer sooner, but May 12 still feels like ages away ๐Ÿ˜….

Meh, another game that'll probably get super hyped but ends up being a bunch of hype ๐Ÿ™ƒ. I mean, the concept is cool, crashing on an alien planet with these shape-shifting monsters sounds like some Resident Evil stuff. But let's be real, how many survival horror games are we gonna see in 2025? It's gonna be like "oh no, another game where you can only save yourself" ๐Ÿ™„.

I'm curious about this Turning Points feature tho, it sounds like they're trying to give players more agency or something. Maybe I'll try it out and see if it's a game-changer for me... probably not ๐Ÿ˜’. And yeah, co-op is always a plus, but five-player local co-op? That's just gonna be a nightmare of coordination and decision-making ๐Ÿคฏ.

Anyway, I guess Directive 8020 will be out on May 12 now, so that's something to look forward to, I suppose ๐Ÿ‘€.

Man, I'm getting hyped for this one! Directive 8020 is gonna be a real nail-biter, especially with that permadeath mode... ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ‘ฝ Like, imagine making the ultimate decision to sacrifice some crewmates and it's stuck forever ๐Ÿคฏ. And five-player co-op on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S? That's a whole new level of fun with friends! ๐ŸŽฎ I'm curious about how the Turning Points feature works, too - does it change up the game entirely or just add more replay value? Can't wait for May 12! ๐Ÿš€
