DOGE “cut muscle, not fat”; 26K experts rehired after brutal cuts

US Government Suffers Mass Brain Drain After Abrupt Cuts to Agencies

The sudden termination of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has left a gaping hole in the US government, resulting in a massive brain drain that could have far-reaching consequences.

Created by billionaire Elon Musk last year with the goal of slashing billions from the federal budget, DOGE was initially hailed as a revolutionary solution to inefficiency. However, after a brief honeymoon period, critics began to question the agency's true impact.

According to a report by the Center for Effective Public Management at the Brookings Institution, DOGE ultimately saved only $214 billion - a figure that is likely overstated and could be as much as 40% lower than expected. The reality of DOGE's success was far from its lofty promises, with many experts calling into question the agency's methods.

Critics argue that DOGE cut "muscle, not fat," targeting highly skilled professionals such as engineers and doctors, who are now struggling to find new employment. In many cases, these individuals were rehired by their former agencies mere days after being let go.

The consequences of this brain drain will be felt for years to come. The loss of experienced government workers will impact the nation's ability to respond to disasters, manage public health crises, and maintain national security.

Experts warn that it may take months or even years before a full assessment of DOGE's impact can be made. However, one thing is clear: the agency's hasty downsizing has left the US government scrambling to assess the damage and rehire lost talent.

As one expert noted, "It's like Humpty Dumpty - we don't know how quickly they can put him back together again."

OMG 🤯 this is soooo sad 😔 what happened to all those talented ppl 🤓 who were let go without any warning? it's like they just vanished into thin air 🕵️‍♀️ i mean, i get that the government needs to be efficient, but cutting people's jobs and then rehiring them in a few days is just so... arbitrary ⚖️

and can u believe Elon Musk had a hand in all this? 🤝 he must have some serious issues if he thinks saving billions by cutting ppl's jobs is a good idea 💸 i mean, didn't we learn from the whole Enron debacle? 🚮 where did we go wrong again? 🙄

anywayz... 🤷‍♂️ this brain drain thing is gonna have some major consequences in the long run 🕰️ like what if there's a disaster or a public health crisis and they can't find anyone who knows what they're doing? 🌪️ it's not exactly rocket science, but it seems like ppl thought that lol 💥

I'm totally baffled by this whole thing 🤯. I mean, think about it - a government agency created to cut costs and boost efficiency ends up getting slammed for its own lack of planning 💸. It's like, what exactly did Elon Musk expect would happen when he whacked out an entire department? Did he seriously believe that the people who were supposed to make the cuts wouldn't be the ones who got chopped? 🤷‍♂️

And don't even get me started on this brain drain 💥. Losing top talent is one thing, but rehiring them mere days later just to get rid of their contracts? That's some next-level bureaucratic red tape 🔒. I mean, what kind of system allows that kind of waste? It's like they're trying to drive the point home that even when you cut costs, you still end up hemorrhaging it all 💸.

As for the experts saying it'll take months or years to assess DOGE's impact, I say, good luck with that 🤯. The fact remains - we've lost some of our best and brightest, and it's gonna take a while to fix this mess 💔.

omg this is so crazy what's going on in the us gov lol I mean i get it we need to cut costs but brain drain? that's just gonna come back and bite them. engineers and doctors are like super hard to replace, especially when they're leaving high paying jobs. it's gonna take a while for them to rebuild their teams and fill those positions. my guess is it's gonna be at least 2-3 years before they even get close to being where they were pre-DOGE 🤯

this is just crazy 🤯 I mean, who in their right mind cuts entire departments of a government agency that are crucial to keeping the country safe and functional? it's not like they were just hiring people to do busywork or something. now those engineers and doctors are out of a job and the system is gonna suffer because of some billionaire's ego trip 💸.

OMG u guyz 🤯, I'm low-key shocked about this mass brain drain in the US Gov 🤔. I mean, I knew DOGE was a bit sketchy from the start but $214 billion in "savings" is a pretty big iffy number 💸. And now that all those brainy ppl are gone, it's gonna be super hard to get the gov back on track 🚨. What's up with these hasty cuts tho? It's like they're trying to solve a complex problem by just cutting out the smartest people in the room 🤦‍♂️. I'm all for efficiency, but this is just ridiculous 😂. The gov needs to get its act together ASAP! 👊

🤯💥 OMG, this is so crazy! Did you see that stat about DOGE only saving $214 billion? Like, where did all the rest of that cash go? 🤑 And it's not even like they were able to cut "fat" and still save a ton... more like muscle 💪. That's so harsh on those engineers and docs who got let go.

And can we talk about how this is affecting public health crises and national security? Like, what happens when the people are gone who know how to manage disasters? 🌪️🚨 It's going to be a long time before they figure out how much damage was done. I'm low-key scared 😬.

Here's some data on brain drain stats:
- 55% of DOGE employees were rehired by their former agencies within days
- 30% of engineers who left DOGE are now working at competitors 🤝
- The US government has lost an estimated 10,000 experienced workers due to DOGE

I'm no expert, but it feels like we're in a bit of a crisis mode here 😅. What do you think is going on?

OMG 🤯 just checked out those stats on DOGE... did you know that the US government is losing over 10% of its entire workforce due to this brain drain? 🤓 It's not just engineers and doctors, but also lawyers, economists, and even IT specialists are being let go. The numbers are wild: over 100K jobs lost so far, with an estimated 500K more at risk in the next year 🚨.

I mean, we all knew it was gonna be a big deal when they cut DOGE, but whoa... the impact is REAL 💸. Not just about the $$$ saved (which is still pretty questionable), but about the loss of expertise and experience. The gov's gotta find a way to plug that hole ASAP or risk getting caught with its pants down 🤦‍♂️.

BTW, have you seen those charts on public health crisis response times? 📊 It's like, we're already in a pandemic situation, and now the gov's scrambling to replace the folks who knew how to handle it... not cool 😬.

😱 this is insane! they cut down all the smart people who actually know what they're doing, it's not just about cutting fat, it's about having experienced ppl in critical positions 🤯 and now they gotta scramble to find new ones? that's gonna take ages 🕰️ and i'm worried about the disasters, health crises & national security 😷 we need these people back ASAP 💨

Ugh, I'm so done with these bureaucratic moves 🤦‍♂️. I mean, who thought it was a good idea to just cut out an entire agency without having a solid plan in place? It's like they expected everyone to magically find new jobs overnight 💼. And now we're seeing the consequences - experienced professionals are leaving, and that's going to hurt the country in so many ways 🌎. I'm all for cutting waste, but this is just lazy 🔴. Can't we do better than this? 😒

OMG, I'm literally worried about our country right now 🤕... I mean, I get it that efficiency is important and all, but cutting the brain trust 💡 behind DOGE was a huge mistake. Those engineers and doctors were like the superheroes of the government, saving lives and keeping us safe 24/7. Now they're just floating around, looking for jobs 🤔. It's not like they can just pick up their skills and move on to a new industry or anything... it takes time and experience to rebuild that expertise 💪. And what about all the projects they were working on? Who's gonna finish them? 😩 This brain drain thing is gonna have some serious consequences in the long run, for sure 🚨.

💥 I'm not surprised, tbh 🤷‍♂️. Politicians think they can just slash budgets willy-nilly and expect everything to work out? 😂 They have no idea what they're doing. It's all about short-term gains for them, but the long-term consequences are always gonna be a mess. I mean, who needs experienced government workers when you can just automate things, right? 🤖 Newsflash: we live in a complex world, not some fantasy realm where everything works out just because you click a button. And btw, 40% lower than expected? Come on! That's like saying they saved $214 billion when really it was closer to $140 billion. 📉
