Driver kills pedestrian in hit-and-run near Cross Bronx Expressway, police say

Tragedy Strikes on Cross Bronx Expressway: Driver Abandons Pedestrian in Hit-and-Run

In a shocking and disturbing incident, a pedestrian was left dead after being struck by an SUV heading west on the Cross Bronx Expressway Service Road. The pedestrian's body was discovered near the intersection of Ellis Avenue and the expressway service road in Unionport at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday evening.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and took the victim to Jacobi Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Initially, police were unsure if the pedestrian had been in a designated crosswalk area at the time of the collision, leaving officials scrambling to piece together what exactly transpired.

Police have launched an investigation into the fatal crash but have not yet identified the driver who fled the scene or disclosed any details about their vehicle. While authorities are working to notify the victim's family, they remain tight-lipped on the specifics surrounding the incident.

Unfortunately, this grim reminder is part of a concerning trend: in 2023 alone, there were over 13 pedestrian fatalities reported in Bronx traffic crashes through November 23st, down from 18 during the same period last year. The NYPD has been actively working to address pedestrian safety concerns across the borough.

๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ˜ฉ just can't believe this is happening on our roads. it's like a nightmare that never ends. people deserve so much better than to be abandoned by their own vehicle after hurting someone. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ข and to make matters worse, no one knows if the pedestrian was even in a designated crosswalk or not... it's just a mess. but what really gets me is thinking about all these innocent lives lost on our roads, especially pedestrians. they're not asking for much, just a safe way to get from point A to B. ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŒŸ

Ugh, what's wrong with people?! ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ This hit-and-run is just another example of how reckless some drivers are. I mean, who abandons someone like that? It's not like they're in a life-or-death situation or something... oh wait, they probably are now. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ The fact that the driver hasn't come forward yet is already super suspicious to me. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before we find out they were driving with a suspended license or something.

And can you believe there have been over 13 pedestrian fatalities in the Bronx alone last year? ๐Ÿšจ It's like, what are people even doing?! We need better infrastructure, more crosswalks, and some common sense when it comes to sharing the road. But no, I'm sure it's all just a huge coincidence that these incidents keep happening... ๐Ÿ™„

Man, this just hits really close to home ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿš—. I mean, can you even imagine being out for a walk and then suddenly being hit by a car? It's like, what are we even doing wrong as a society? We're always talking about how drivers need to be more careful, but it seems like no matter how many warnings they get, some people just aren't going to follow the rules ๐Ÿšซ. And now this poor guy is dead... it's just devastating ๐Ÿ˜”.

I think part of the problem is that our city just isn't doing enough to make pedestrians feel safe. I mean, we've got these fancy bike lanes and pedestrian zones, but they're often poorly lit or not even properly maintained ๐Ÿšฎ. And don't even get me started on the traffic cops โ€“ sometimes it feels like they're more interested in giving tickets to drivers than actually helping us get around safely ๐Ÿ‘ฎ.

The fact that the driver just abandoned the guy is just ridiculous ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. Like, what's going through your head when you do something so reckless? Did you even stop to see if anyone was hurt before you took off? It's just unbelievable ๐Ÿคฏ. Anyway, my condolences to the victim's family and loved ones ๐Ÿ’” โ€“ this is just heartbreaking ๐Ÿ˜ข.

Man, this is just crazy ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜จ, another person lives and dies on our roads and no one's even stopped to help? I mean, what's going through that driver's head, right? Just abandon someone like that? That SUV should be found ASAP ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฃ. And poor guy, 13 pedestrians died just in the Bronx this year already... it's like they're not seeing us, you know? We need to keep putting pressure on the NYPD to make some changes, like more cameras or better enforcement or whatever ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. This should be a wake-up call for all of us to stay vigilant and look out for each other when we're walking... ๐Ÿ˜”

๐Ÿ˜ฑ can't believe what I'm reading... some dude just abandons a person on the road and speeds off ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ like it's no big deal, who does that?! ๐Ÿคฏ 13 pedestrian fatalities in just one year is already so sad & disturbing ๐Ÿ’” needs to be done something about this ASAP... NYPD should've found the driver by now, what are they waiting for? ๐Ÿ˜ก poor guy got hit and left to die, my heart goes out to his family & loved ones ๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฑ just saw this news about that hit-and-run on Cross Bronx Expressway and it's just heartbreaking ๐Ÿค• anyone who's walked or driven through the Bronx knows how chaotic traffic can be, but that's no excuse for someone to leave another human being for dead ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. it's so frustrating when drivers think they can just leave the scene without facing consequences... it's a total bummer that this incident is part of a bigger trend - we need more awareness and better infrastructure to keep pedestrians safe ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ‘ฃ. hope the victim's family gets the support they deserve ๐Ÿ’”

omg this is just awful ๐Ÿค• the fact that the driver just abandons their victim and flees the scene is just sickening ๐Ÿ˜ก can you even imagine being in that situation? i hope the authorities catch the driver and bring them to justice ASAP ๐Ÿ’ฏ it's just so frustrating when people do something like that, leaving innocent lives hanging in the balance ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ pedestrian safety should always be a priority, especially on highways and expressways ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿšซ what really gets me is how many people have died on those roads already this year ๐Ÿ˜ข 13 fatalities are just too many ๐Ÿ’”

ugh this is getting out of hand ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฑ. 2023 numbers are already pretty alarming but adding more to that is just heartbreaking. how can we even justify people leaving their victims like that? no info on the driver yet, but still gotta feel for the victim's family and all. what's going on with our roads? seems like they're getting more congested by the day ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ

omg this is so sad ๐Ÿค• the fact that the driver just left the person there... it's like they didn't even care if they hurt someone https://www.nydailynews.com/news/cr...an-fatal-cross-bronx-expressway-2025020300053

i mean, pedestrian safety is a big deal, and we should all be able to walk around without fear of getting hit by a car https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-62015198

and yeah, the numbers are just crazy... 13 people already died in 2023 alone ๐Ÿคฏ it's like, can't we do better than this?

I don't think it's fair to say that the NYPD is doing a great job with pedestrian safety... I mean, on the one hand, they are trying and all, but on the other hand, 13 fatalities in just under two years is still way too many ๐Ÿคฏ. And what really gets me is that there's this huge trend of people not even stopping for pedestrians after an accident... it's like, come on, be a decent human being! ๐Ÿ˜ก But at the same time, I don't think we should be judging the cops too hard, they're just trying to do their job and figure out what happened in each case. It's all so frustrating! ๐Ÿ™„

๐Ÿšจ Another senseless tragedy on our roads ๐Ÿค•. I mean, can't we get some decent infrastructure around here? Like proper crosswalks and not just these crazy busy intersections with no protection at all. It's like they expect us to be superheroes or something ๐Ÿ™„. And don't even get me started on the hit-and-run drivers... just leave a body on the side of the road, what's the big deal? ๐Ÿ˜ก

And I'm so tired of hearing about this stuff and not seeing any real change. We're still getting these terrible stats and it feels like no one is really doing anything to fix it ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. The NYPD says they're working on pedestrian safety, but what does that even mean? Are they going to just slap up some new signs or something? ๐Ÿšจ
