EFL on Sky this weekend: Hull face crunch Middlesbrough clash & more pressure coming for Leicester?

Hull City's Up-and-Down Season Continues with Yorkshire Showdown Against Middlesbrough

For Hull City, this weekend is all about taking things one game at a time and building momentum in their push for promotion. After a thrilling comeback win against Stoke City last Saturday, the Tigers are now firmly planted in ninth place, just three points off third-placed Fulham.

However, the table is so congested that victory on Friday will catapult Hull into third, while Middlesbrough, currently second, remain unbeaten all season but face a stiff test away at Hull.

Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic acknowledges the challenge ahead and praises his side for their bravery and quality. "They're a good, brave team who want to play on the ground and press," he said in his pre-match press conference. "We have top players like Joe Gelhardt who can score goals in transitions and with the ball at their feet."

Hull City has come from behind multiple times this season, but will need to keep Joe Gelhardt in form if they're to overcome Middlesbrough. Oli McBurnie's return from injury is also crucial to unlocking the Boro defense.

Despite the daunting task ahead of him, Jakirovic is looking forward to the game, saying, "I think it'll be a very good game, so I'm looking forward to playing the game and seeing the fans." Hull City has an excellent record at home against Middlesbrough, winning five out of their last six encounters.

In another Yorkshire showdown, Middlesbrough manager Kim Hellberg is wary of Hull's attacking threat. "I think they're a good team with brave players," he said in his pre-match press conference. "They want to press and go forward, so it'll be a very good game."

Hellberg also recognizes the importance of getting Oli McBurnie back from injury as soon as possible to strengthen the Tigers' attack.

Derby County vs Leicester City

Meanwhile, Derby County is looking to bounce back from two consecutive defeats when they host Leicester City. The Rams had been on a five-game winning run before losing to Sheffield United and then suffered a 3-0 drubbing at Southampton in their last outing. They have also lost top scorer Carlton Morris for several months.

Leicester, who were expected to challenge for the top two or at least the top six, have struggled under new manager Marti Cifuentes. While they're still in 16th place, there's a long way to go before they can be considered among the favorites for promotion.

David Prutton from the Sky Sports Essential EFL podcast predicts that Derby County will edge Leicester City to a 2-1 home win.

Other Games

The EFL has a number of other intriguing matches this weekend. Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth meet at The Valley, while Watford host Norwich City at Vicarage Road.

I'm thinking Hull City needs to keep their cool against Middlesbrough 🤔. They're doing alright in 9th place but need a win to catapult them up to 3rd. It's gonna be a tough game, especially with Oli McBurnie back from injury, and Joe Gelhardt's form is crucial. 😬 Hull has an excellent record at home against Middlesbrough, so fingers crossed they can carry that momentum through.

💡 I think Hull City's got a good chance of beating Middlesbrough, they've been doing some crazy comebacks all season. But on the other hand, Derby County is looking a bit wonky after those two losses 🤔. I mean, Leicester City is still struggling under their new manager and without Carlton Morris they're gonna struggle to score ⚽️. Charlton vs Portsmouth could be interesting, though - both teams are trying to turn their seasons around 🔄

🔥 Ooh, what's happening with Hull City right now? They're like the rollercoaster that you can't look away from! One minute they're up, the next minute they're down... but in a good way, I guess 😂. I mean, who wouldn't want to watch a team come back from behind and win it at the last minute? It's like something out of a movie!

But seriously, I think Hull City has a great chance against Middlesbrough. They've got that quality player in Joe Gelhardt who can score goals out of nowhere, and if they can get Oli McBurnie back from injury, they'll be almost unstoppable! 🤩 And let's not forget about their home record – 5 wins out of 6? That's a big deal!

I'm also loving the atmosphere at these Yorkshire showdowns. It's always so intense when Hull City and Middlesbrough go head-to-head. I think we can expect some serious drama on Friday night! 🎬

This Hull City vs Middlesbrough game is gonna be a wild one 🤯! I mean, both teams have been on fire lately, so it's hard to predict who'll come out on top. But if I had to put my money on it, I'd say Hull's got this one in the bag 💪. They've been playing some amazing football lately and that Joe Gelhardt is a beast on the pitch 🔥. Plus, they've got home advantage which never hurts, right? 🏠

But you know who the real underdog is here? Derby County 😱. I mean, two consecutive defeats can be tough to bounce back from, especially with top scorer Carlton Morris out for several months. But hey, David Prutton's prediction of a 2-1 win for the Rams seems pretty solid 💯. Still, Leicester City's in 16th place so they're not exactly in prime form either 😅.

And what's up with all these Yorkshire showdowns? 🤔 I mean, it feels like every weekend is a Derby County vs [insert Yorkshire team here] game or something. It's like the whole region just loves a good derby match 🔥.

I'm thinking Hull City's chances of beating Middlesbrough are pretty decent 🤔. They've shown they can come back from behind and win games, but it'll be tough with Boro looking unbeaten all season. On the other hand, Derby County needs to bounce back from those losses and I think Leicester City is due for a win, not because of their promotion push, more like because Derby County has been on fire lately 🔥. And what's up with the EFL schedule? So many games in such a short period of time... it's gonna be a long weekend 😓

I gotta say, the football season is getting crazy! 😂 Those teams are just fighting for every point now. Hull City's got some good players like Joe Gelhardt who can score goals quickly, but they'll need to keep him in form if they wanna beat Middlesbrough. And don't even get me started on Derby County, they're struggling after two defeats in a row. 🤯 Leicester City is also having an awful season under Marti Cifuentes, they're just not performing well.

I think it's gonna be a tough game for Hull against Middlesbrough, but I'm rooting for them to win! 😊 And Derby County needs to bounce back from those defeats ASAP. Charlton Athletic vs Portsmouth and Watford vs Norwich City are also looking interesting this weekend. 🏟️

I dont get why Hull Citys manager is saying they need to "build momentum" for promotion like its some hidden thing. They're already in 9th place, just 3 points off 3rd place, what more do they need? It feels like every team is saying that at this point in the season 🤔

And another thing, Oli McBurnie's return from injury is being made out to be some big deal. I get it, he's a good player and all, but can't Hull City just win games without him? 🏃‍♂️

I think Hull is getting in over their head if they think winning one game against Middlesbrough is gonna catapult them to 3rd place 🤯! They need a solid run of results, not just a single win. And don't even get me started on Sergej Jakirovic's tactics... press and go forward? That's just basic football 🙄. Hull needs to be more strategic if they wanna give those top teams a run for their money 💪

Man, these Yorkshire teams are gonna go at it hard on Friday 🤯. Hull's been having a wild ride this season, but if they can keep Joe Gelhardt in form, they might just take down Middlesbrough 💪. Sergej Jakirovic seems like a decent manager, and I'm intrigued to see how his team stacks up against Kim Hellberg's squad 🤔.

On the other hand, Derby County is in big trouble after those back-to-back losses 😬. Losing Carlton Morris for months has gotta be tough on them. Marti Cifuentes needs to sort that team out ASAP or they'll struggle to stay afloat.

Charlton Athletic vs Portsmouth and Watford vs Norwich City are gonna be some fun matches too 🎉. Charlton's been doing alright this season, but can they keep the momentum going? And what's up with Leicester City? They were supposed to be one of the top contenders for promotion, but now... 🤷‍♂️

🤩 I'm so hyped for this Yorkshire showdown between Hull City and Middlesbrough! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Both teams are on fire right now and it's gonna be a real nail-biter. I've been saying it all season, but Hull City has the quality to take down anyone in the league. They just need to keep Joe Gelhardt in form and Oli McBurnie back from injury ASAP. 💪

I'm also super excited for this game because it's gonna be a real test of the Tigers' bravery and quality. Sergej Jakirovic said they're good, brave players who want to press and play on the ground, and I think that's exactly what it takes to beat Middlesbrough.

As a Platform Loyalist, I gotta say that I'm loving the drama and unpredictability of this season. It's anyone's game and every win counts. So here's hoping Hull City brings home the 3 points on Friday! 🏆

🤔 Hull City's up-and-down season is crazy, right? One week they're 3 points off third place, the next they're struggling to stay up. I mean, I get it, promotion battles are intense and all that, but can we really rely on them taking things "one game at a time" if they want to get out of this mess? 🤷‍♂️ Also, how many times do we need to hear about Joe Gelhardt's form before it becomes a cliché? 😴 What are the actual stats behind his goal-scoring prowess? Can someone pls drop some links or numbers so I can see what I'm missing? 📊

Omg, what's up with Derby County 😒? Two losses in a row and they're already struggling 🤯! Carlton Morris is out for months, that's huge ⏰. They need to get back on track ASAP or risk falling behind 🚀. Leicester City isn't exactly firing on all cylinders either 🔥. Marti Cifuentes needs to sort their defense out ASAP or they'll be sleeping with the fishes 😳.

Hull City is looking solid tho 💪! Sergej Jakirovic has a great game plan in place and his team's bravery will serve them well 💫. They need Joe Gelhardt to keep scoring those goals 🎯 and Oli McBurnie's return could be the difference maker 🔓. Bring on the Yorkshire showdowns, let's get this promotion party started 🎉!

🤔 Hull City's season is like a rollercoaster ride - one minute they're up, the next they're down 😅. Being three points off third place is pretty impressive considering how congested the table is. But let's be real, beating Middlesbrough won't be easy 🐻. They're currently undefeated all season, which is no joke!

I love that Hull City has a good record at home against Middlesbrough, but it'll still be tough to beat them on their turf 💪. And Joe Gelhardt's form will be crucial if they want to pull off this win. On the other hand, Derby County needs to bounce back from those losses ASAP 🚨. Losing top scorer Carlton Morris is a big blow, and Leicester City isn't exactly on fire right now 🔥.

I'm loving the drama of Hull's season right now 🤯! They're like a rollercoaster ride - one minute they're down, next minute they're soaring 💨! As it stands, they're only 3 points off third place and have a great record at home against Middlesbrough, winning 5 out of their last 6 🏠💪.

Their attacking threat is pretty formidable, especially with Joe Gelhardt on form 🔥, but Boro's defense has been solid this season 🚫. Oli McBurnie's return from injury could be the difference maker for Hull, though 🤞.

Looking at the stats, Hull have scored 1.4 goals per game this season ⚽️, which is a great rate considering they're not top of the table 😅. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough have conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game 👀 - that's some stingy defending 💯.

Anyway, it's gonna be a thrilling match at Hull, and I'm excited to see how it all unfolds 🎉!

Hull City is like the underdog that just won't quit! 😂 They've been on an up-and-down season but I think they can pull off a win against Middlesbrough. Joe Gelhardt is their savior, that guy's a goal-scoring machine ⚽️. And if Oli McBurnie gets back from injury, that's like adding another superpower to the team 💪.

But you know who I'm really rooting for? Derby County 🤔. They've been on a wild ride and I think they can pull off an upset against Leicester City. They need to get their top scorer back, Carlton Morris, but I think David Prutton's prediction of a 2-1 win is spot on 🙌.

And can we talk about how awesome it is that these teams are giving us something to watch in the second tier? EFL matches always bring so much excitement and drama ⚽👏.

I'm thinking about those teams that are struggling with injuries... Derby County's loss of Carlton Morris is huge for them. I mean, they were doing so well before he went down, and now it's tough to see how they'll bounce back from this. But you know what? These teams have shown some resilience in the past. They just need to stay focused and play to their strengths.

And speaking of staying focused, I think Hull City is showing some great spirit with all those comeback wins. It's not easy to come from behind like that, especially when you're facing a tough opponent. But they've got a good team dynamic going on, and as long as Joe Gelhardt stays hot, I think they can take down Middlesbrough.

It's also interesting to see how Leicester City is trying to get back on track with Marti Cifuentes at the helm. They've got some talented players, but it seems like they're still finding their footing. Maybe a win against Derby County will be just what they need to spark some momentum!

The thrill of competition 🏆! It's amazing how sometimes we can be so caught up in trying to achieve our goals that we forget to enjoy the journey 🤦‍♂️. Hull City's manager Sergej Jakirovic is giving his team a pep talk, saying they're brave and have quality players like Joe Gelhardt - but what does it really mean to play with bravery? To me, it means being willing to take risks and try new things, even when the outcome isn't guaranteed 🤔. And hey, who knows, maybe that's exactly what Hull City needs to do to overcome Middlesbrough and get promoted! 💪

I think Hull City's chances are being undervalued 🤔! They're not just fighting for promotion, they're playing with fire 🔥. That comeback win against Stoke City was incredible 💥. If they can keep Joe Gelhardt in form and get Oli McBurnie back from injury ASAP, I believe they've got this 😏. Middlesbrough might be undefeated, but Hull's got the momentum on their side 🔄. Don't underestimate the Tigers! 💪

I don't know if I agree that Hull City is in ninth place or not 🤔... maybe they're actually higher up? Anyway, it's gonna be a tough game against Middlesbrough, but I think Hull has what it takes to pull off an upset 😏. Sergej Jakirovic seems like a solid manager, and Joe Gelhardt's form is key to their success 💪.

But, on the other hand, I'm not sure if Hull City's home record against Middlesbrough is as strong as they think it is 🤷‍♂️... maybe Middlesbrough will come in and give them a run for their money? And what about Derby County vs Leicester City? I think Leicester City might be more than just a struggling team... they've got some decent players, you know 👀.

Oh wait, I'm contradicting myself now 😂! Maybe Hull City's comeback win against Stoke City was just a fluke 🤦‍♂️. Ugh, my opinions are all over the place today 🙃
