In a stunning reversal, Ken Block, an expert hired by former President Donald Trump to support his baseless claims of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, has come out swinging against the very politician he was meant to serve. The Washington Post broke news last November that Block had entered into a contract with Simpatico Software Systems, a company led by Block himself, to substantiate Trump's claims.
However, on Tuesday, Block penned an op-ed in USA Today, boldly stating that his research never yielded any evidence to support Trump's claims and instead thoroughly debunked them. According to the transcript of depositions taken by the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, Block's team found no evidence of voter fraud sufficient to change the outcome of any election.
Block took aim at Trump himself, accusing him of peddling a "steady diet of lies and innuendo" in an effort to "overcome the truth." He also revealed that he communicated this finding directly to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. Notably, Block pointed out that despite his team's exhaustive investigation, the claims of voter fraud continue unabated.
Block emphasized that the constant drumbeat of misinformation about the 2020 election has hardened public opinion and made it more difficult for people to accept the truth. He noted that his investigation found no evidence of large-scale voter fraud using data mining and fraud analytics.
Furthermore, Block's findings have been shared with special counsel Jack Smith and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, both of whom have criminally charged Trump over his efforts to subvert the 2020 election. In fact, Block believes that the lack of verifiable evidence for voter fraud in the 2020 election is staggering.
As a former gubernatorial candidate, Block praised Trump's discipline in sticking to a single issue but argued that this was misplaced energy that could be better spent addressing systemic weaknesses in the country's election infrastructure, such as gerrymandering and inadequate national election infrastructure.
