Eye on Africa - One year after Trump’s inauguration, US–Africa policy has changed fundamentally

US policy towards Africa has undergone a significant shift in the past year, with Washington adopting a more collaborative approach to engagement.

One key change is the introduction of a new strategy aimed at strengthening US-Africa relations. The strategy focuses on promoting economic growth, enhancing security, and addressing issues such as climate change and pandemics that affect both countries.

The Biden administration has also taken steps to increase investment in Africa, particularly through the Power Africa initiative, which aims to provide access to clean energy across the continent.

However, some critics argue that US policy towards Africa remains overly focused on extracting natural resources and neglecting human development.

Meanwhile, Ghana has arrested several West African nationals accused of luring workers into online activities under false pretenses. The arrests were made as part of a crackdown on cybercrime in the country.

In other news, Senegal is celebrating its victory in the Africa Cup of Nations with a hero's welcome for the team.

🤔 I'm still not convinced about this new US approach towards Africa... it sounds like just another way to exploit their resources and ignore the real issues that are affecting everyday people on the continent 🤑. Don't get me wrong, increasing investment in clean energy is a good thing and all, but what about the workers who got scammed by those online fake jobs? That's some serious human development neglect right there 😒.

umm so like whats going on with US policy in africa i just read about it and im kinda confused 🤔 theyre making changes but also critics say theyre focusing too much on resources umm isnt that just how its always been tho? like why bother trying to help with climate change and stuff if youre just gonna take the resources anyway? 🤷‍♀️ i mean i guess its good that theyre investing in power africa and all that but what about the people who actually live there? 🌎 arent they important too? btw has anyone seen that video of the senegal team celebrating their win lol looks like so much fun 🏆

Omg, US policy towards Africa is getting a major revamp and I am HERE FOR IT 🤩! It's about time they shifted their focus from just exploiting resources to investing in people and development. The new strategy sounds like a solid plan to promote economic growth, security, and tackling climate change. I love how they're also putting emphasis on clean energy with the Power Africa initiative - it's gonna be huge for the continent! 🌞 But yaaas, let's not forget about cybercrime being a thing in Ghana too... gotta keep those online scammers on their toes 😂. Congrats to Senegal on winning the Africa Cup of Nations, that's amazing! 🏆

I gotta say, this new US policy towards Africa is kinda promising 🤞... they're actually trying to be all about collaboration and stuff instead of just exploiting the continent for their own gain 💸. I mean, it's cool that they're focusing on economic growth and security, but let's not forget about human development too, you know? It's like, we can't just focus on building roads and factories without thinking about how those people are gonna pay for them or what kinda jobs are gonna be available 🤔. And yeah, I'm all for increasing investment in Africa, especially with the Power Africa initiative... clean energy is key, fam! 💚 But at the same time, we gotta hold the US accountable for not doing enough to support human development and social justice on the continent. It's like, they're trying to do good, but they gotta be more than just lip service 🗣️. And meanwhile, Ghana's taking down cybercrime in their country... that's some real progress right there 🚀! But Senegal winning the Africa Cup of Nations? Congrats to them, I guess 😊... now let's see if they can turn that into actual development and growth for the whole country 💪.

omg i'm so stoked about the new US strategy towards africa 🤩 - it's like they're finally acknowledging that africa isn't just about resources, but people and development too! 👍 I mean, clean energy is super important for the continent and i love that power africa is making a big impact 💚. but at the same time, let's not forget about all the other issues affecting africa, like climate change and pandemics 🤕. it's not just about one thing, we need a holistic approach 👏. btw, did you catch senegal's win in the africa cup of nations? 🎉 they deserve all the celebration!

omg u guys missed this one! so i was reading about US policy towards africa and it seems like they're trying to shift from just exploiting the continent's resources to actually helping people out 🤔. i mean, power africa is a good start, but we need more investment in healthcare, education, etc. can't just focus on energy and forget about human development 🌎👥

Something's not adding up here... I mean, have you noticed how all of a sudden US policy towards Africa is all about "collaboration" and "investing in growth"? It sounds like a classic case of corporate spin 🤑. I'm not saying they're intentionally trying to exploit the continent for resources, but it's clear that economic interests are being prioritized over actual human development. And what's with the Power Africa initiative? Sounds like just another way for Big Oil to get their hands on cheap energy 💨. Ghana cracking down on cybercrime is a good start, but we need to see more transparency about how these online scams are really happening in the first place 🕵️‍♀️. And Senegal winning the Africa Cup of Nations is great and all, but can we please focus on the real issues at play here?

so this new US policy towards Africa seems like a good step 🤔... but at the same time i'm not sure if they're gonna follow through on their promises 💸. all these initiatives sound great, but what about the implementation details? and what about the long-term effects? will it just be more of the same old thing or is there actually a plan to address the issues that critics are bringing up?

and btw, Ghana's taking down cybercriminals is awesome 🙌... but it makes me wonder how many people were affected by these online scams before they took action. and Senegal celebrating their win is cool 😊... but what about the rest of Africa? will this African Cup Nations victory bring any real change or growth to the continent as a whole?

I'm not sure if this new US strategy is gonna make a real difference or just another band-aid solution 🤔. I mean, they've been saying that for ages and nothing seems to change. But hey, more investment in Africa can't hurt, right? The Power Africa initiative sounds like a good start. We need to see some tangible progress on the ground though. Can't just rely on grand words and promises 🤑. And what about those critics who say US policy is too focused on resources? That's fair point. I'd love to see more emphasis on human development and supporting African nations in their own growth 🌱. Ghana cracking down on cybercrime, nice move! Senegal celebrating its win, that's awesome 😊. But let's not forget about the real issues affecting Africa, like poverty and inequality...

I gotta say, it's about time the US took a more collaborative approach to engaging with Africa 🙏. I mean, we all know how important those natural resources are, but let's not forget that the continent has so much potential beyond just mining and drilling 💸. Investing in clean energy is a big step in the right direction, especially through initiatives like Power Africa - it's a game-changer for people living off the grid 🌞.

At the same time, I'm glad to see Ghana taking steps to crack down on cybercrime 👮‍♀️. Online safety is super important, and it's not just about scammers and hackers - there are so many other risks out there too 🤖.

But what really gets me excited is Senegal's win in the Africa Cup of Nations 🏆! I mean, that team must be on fire right now 💥. Congrats to them on their victory - here's to many more wins and celebrations from across the continent 🎉.

omg, i'm so stoked to see US policy towards Africa shifting towards collaboration 🤩. it's about time they recognized that there's more to Africa than just resources. investing in clean energy and addressing climate change is literally the future 💚. and power africa initiative is a great step forward - who wouldn't want access to reliable energy? 🌞

but at the same time, i'm all for them looking into human development too. africa has so much potential, but it's often overlooked in favor of resource extraction. let's hope this new strategy will bring about real change.

anyway, congrats to senegal on their afc cup win 🏆. that's amazing news! and ugh, cybercrime is the worst - glad ghana is cracking down on it 👮‍♂️.

I'm all about that sustainable development life 🌎💚 so it's cool to see the US taking a more collaborative approach towards Africa. But we gotta call out the fact that resources extraction has been a major focus for years, meanwhile human dev is being neglected. It's like, we should be prioritizing people over profits 💸👥. And I'm all about that clean energy too 🌞💚 but let's not forget about the other issues affecting Africa, like climate change and pandemics. We need a more holistic approach to engagement 🔒💪.

man this new US policy towards Africa feels like it's trying to rebalance things after years of being super exploitative 🤔. promoting economic growth and security is all well and good, but what about the people who are still struggling in the shadows? we need to remember that development isn't just about GDP numbers or energy production – it's about creating sustainable livelihoods for everyday folk.

and on a separate note, cybercrime is such a wild beast 🌪️. these Ghanaian arrests might seem like a small victory, but what about all the people who are still getting scammed online? we need to be thinking about how to create more secure communities, not just arresting the occasional perpetrator.

anyway, congrats to Senegal on their Africa Cup of Nations win 🎉. it's always great to see countries celebrating their achievements – maybe this is a chance for them to reflect on what really matters: building stronger relationships with each other and working together towards a brighter future 🌟
