Florida's Driver's License Tests to Switch to English Only
Starting February 6, all driver's license knowledge and skills exams in Florida will be administered exclusively in English. This change marks a shift away from offering translations during testing, eliminating the use of interpreters or language translation services.
Previously, noncommercial licenses had multiple language options for their knowledge tests, whereas commercial learner's permit and commercial driver's license exams were limited to only two languages - English and Spanish. The new policy applies uniformly across all driver's license classifications.
Under the updated guidelines, test takers will not receive any accommodations related to language assistance during testing. This change aims to streamline the licensing process, but some critics may find it challenging for those who are non-native English speakers or have limited proficiency in the language.
With the change taking effect on February 6, drivers seeking a new license or renewal will need to prepare themselves for exams conducted entirely in English.
