Chelsea Set to Make £44m Bid for Rennes' Young Centre-Back Jérémy Jacquet
In a move that could bolster their defense, Chelsea are reportedly set to make a significant bid for 20-year-old centre-back Jérémy Jacquet from Ligue 1 club Rennes. The Blues have been on the hunt for a new defender to replace injured Levi Colwill and Tosin Adarabioyo, and it seems they've found an attractive target in the young Frenchman.
The fee being discussed is said to be around £44m, although Chelsea may be willing to meet or exceed that to secure Jacquet's services. The Rennes youngster has already made a name for himself with his impressive performances at the top level of French football, and it would be no surprise if he becomes an instant hit with the Stamford Bridge faithful.
But Chelsea aren't the only club sniffing around. Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in signing skipper Enzo Fernández, which could lead to some interesting dealings for the Blues.
Internazionale may soon find themselves in a defensive bind, though, as 26-year-old defender Alessandro Bastoni is on Liverpool's radar. The Italian has been playing for the Nerazzurri for years, but it seems he's not immune to speculation about his future.
In other news, Burnley could be about to offer a lifeline to out-of-favour West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse. With Josh Cullen out of action, Scott Parker needs some fresh legs in midfield, and Ward-Prowse would certainly fit the bill.
There are also rumblings that Nottingham Forest are looking to strengthen their attack with the signing of Lorenzo Lucca on loan from Napoli, with a €35m option to buy included in the deal. And while Evan Ferguson's time at Roma has been less than impressive, he remains an attractive prospect for other clubs in Italy.
Sevilla, meanwhile, could be tempted by Nathan Patterson, who's struggling to break into Everton's first team. A move to Seville could offer him a chance to get more playing time and maybe even find his footing in La Liga.
Lastly, Leeds United are on the verge of signing Austrian midfielder Romano Schmid from Werder Bremen. The transfer fee being discussed is around €15m, which is a relatively modest sum compared to some of the other deals mentioned in this article.
