For $4,550, Would You Buy a Single Premium Watch or a Swarm of Affordable Ones?

When it comes to luxury watches, one of the age-old debates among watch enthusiasts is whether to go all-in on a single high-end timepiece or assemble a collection of more affordable options. A recent article from WIRED posed this question: would $4,550 be enough to buy a single premium watch like the Tudor Black Bay GMT, or could you build an impressive collection of swanky watches for the same price?

For our money, we'd say go with the former – the Tudor Black Bay GMT is an absolute stunner. The stainless steel case and 41mm diameter make it perfect for both formal and casual wear, and its COSC-certified movement ensures precision timekeeping. It's also a nod to traditional watchmaking with its clean design and subtle details.

But if budget wasn't the only factor, we'd say go for the affordable option – after all, who wouldn't want six watches in their collection? We started by picking up a Baltic Aquascaphe ($730), which boasts a domed sapphire crystal and 200m water resistance. Next came the Dennison Midnight Aventurine watch ($690), perfect for formal occasions where you need a stylish but discreet timepiece.

We then looked at other brands to round out our collection, including Hamilton's Khaki Field "Murph" ($995) – a compact automatic that's as versatile as it is affordable. For travel, we opted for the Mido Ocean Star Decompression Worldtimer ($1,490), which brings its own unique dial and 200m water resistance.

Finally, to really make our watch collection pop, we added the Brew Super Metric ($475) – a quirky hybrid mecha-quartz chrono that's sure to spark conversation. With all six watches together, we're just $65 over budget, leaving room for one more special piece.

So there you have it: while the Tudor Black Bay GMT is undoubtedly the centerpiece of our watch collection, we'd say go with the affordable option if you want a veritable horological smorgasbord. And who knows? Maybe the allure of having six swanky watches on your wrist will prove too great to resist – after all, as anyone who's ever splurged on a luxury item can attest, sometimes it's worth going all-in for that ultimate thrill of indulgence.

omg I am literally drooling over these watch collections 🕰️💰! I mean, $4,550 for just one Tudor Black Bay GMT is a no-brainer - that thing is straight fire 🔥! But at the same time, building an entire collection of six swanky watches is SO cool 😎. I'm totally down to splurge on a few luxury items if it means having something unique and awesome every day 💃. And can we talk about how affordable some of these options are? Like, $730 for a Baltic Aquascaphe? That's like, super affordable 🤑! I might have to start saving up ASAP...

🤩 I gotta say, I'm loving the idea of having multiple high-end watches in your collection! The Tudor Black Bay GMT is def a stunning piece 💯, but building a collection with affordable options like the Baltic Aquascaphe and Dennison Midnight Aventurine? That's just genius 🤓. And adding some unique pieces like the Brew Super Metric - that's just pure fun 😆. For me, I'd say it's all about finding the right balance between splurging on a single statement piece and having a variety of watches to show off your personal style. Maybe one day I'll be able to join this watch collector's club 🎉💸!

omg I'm low-key tempted by this whole watch collection thing 🕰️💎 they have so many cool ones to choose from! 🤩 the Tudor Black Bay GMT is def a stunner tho 😍 but like, who needs only one watch when you can have six and look like a total boss 👊? 💸 I think it's all about finding the perfect combo of style and affordability though... like, if budget wasn't an issue i'd totes go for that Brew Super Metric 🤯 what do u guys think tho? should we all just start collecting watches now 🚀

I remember when I was young 🤦‍♂️ and wanted a watch but my parents wouldn't spring for one... Now they're like "go get 'em" 😂. Seriously though, having just one high-end watch like the Tudor Black Bay GMT is still the way to go imo - it's a timeless classic (heh) that'll never go out of style. I mean, how many people are gonna own six luxury watches? It's like having too much of a good thing 🤯. Don't get me wrong, the affordable options sound nice and all, but for me, it's about investing in something truly special 👀.

I think what's really interesting here is how we define "enough". Are we satisfied with just one incredible timepiece, or do we feel like we need a whole collection to truly appreciate the value? I mean, sure, having six watches can be awesome, but at some point, it's not about the quantity, it's about the quality. And for me, that single Tudor Black Bay GMT is worth every penny 💎🕰️

I gotta say, I'm loving this watch collector's dilemma 🕰️👀. For me, building a collection would be the way to go - who wouldn't want six swanky watches on their wrist? 😆 It's like having a new accessory every month or so! And you're right, it's not just about the cost, but also the thrill of the hunt and getting to try out all these different styles. Plus, I think it's cool that they were able to stay under budget with just a few overspins 😊. The Brew Super Metric is actually kinda awesome too - never would've seen that one coming! 👍

I'm low-key obsessed with these affordable luxury watches 🕰️! I mean, who wouldn't want six swanky timepieces in their collection? The Baltic Aquascaphe and Dennison Midnight Aventurine are solid choices - they're stylish without being too flashy. And the Mido Ocean Star Decompression Worldtimer is a total game-changer for travel 🗺️! I'm all about having that ultimate thrill of indulgence 😍, and with these watches, you can do just that. The Brew Super Metric is also a quirky winner - it's definitely conversation starter material 💬! But if budget was the only factor, I'd say go for the affordable option - six watches for $4,550? That's a steal in my book 😆!

🕰️ gotta say, if u got the cash, why not go all out with one sick watch like the Tudor Black Bay GMT? 🤯 it's a beauty! 💎 but on the other hand, having 6 watches in ur collection can be super satisfying 😊 and for that price, u could get some awesome pieces from diff brands like Baltic, Dennison, Hamilton, Mido, and Brew... 🕰️💥 the variety is key! 👍 plus, it's all about the thrill of collecting, right? 😉

idk about this article... 6 watches for $4,550? that's like buying one high-end watch and getting 5 more free 🤔💸 the writer is saying it's cool to have a collection but also says you can get 6 decent watches for the same price? I need some sources on this claim... are they just shopping around or what? $730 for a Baltic Aquascaphe seems like a pretty good deal, and so does $475 for the Brew Super Metric 🤑

I think I'd be one of those people who gets swept up in the idea of collecting watches. Having six different timepieces to choose from sounds like a dream come true 🕰️💎. But at the same time, wouldn't it get pretty pricey? And wouldn't that just lead to clutter and less appreciation for each individual watch? I'm torn, but I think I'd have to go with the minimalist approach in real life... unless there's a watch sale coming up 😅
