Frazer Clarke is looking to the former foe, Fabio Wardley, for inspiration as he prepares to face Jeamie 'TKV' Tshikeva for the British heavyweight title.
The 2020 Olympic bronze medallist faces a tough test in TKV but Clarke believes his experience of fighting Wardley could be key to success. The two fighters drew in March last year before Wardley, now WBO world champion, knocked out Clarke in just one round.
Clarke admits he has regrets over the fight against Wardley but says there is "no anger towards Fabio, only congratulations" for his achievement. Despite that, Clarke believes his own performances against Wardley left him needing surgery on his jaw and he wants to put those struggles behind him.
He now sees parallels between himself and Wardley - both are fighters with two arms and legs who work hard in the gym. Clarke hopes this can inspire others in the sport to persevere through setbacks.
Clarke is confident that, given a few more years of training and preparation, he could become world champion just like his rival. However, Clarke acknowledges Wardley will be looking for a bigger name and financially bigger fight next time out.
The trilogy between these two British fighters has long been talked about but Clarke believes it's now getting closer to being a reality. Despite TKV's recent success, Clarke sees an opportunity in the fight against him.
