French government not in favour of World Cup 2026 boycott over Greenland threats

French sports Minister Marina Ferrari says her government is not in favour of boycotting this year's World Cup due to US President Donald Trump's threats over Greenland. The move comes after Trump targeted France and other European countries with tariffs for opposing his attempt to annex the autonomous Danish territory.

The comments from Ferrari contradict those made by French far-left politician Γ‰ric Coquerel, who earlier suggested that a boycott of the tournament was necessary if Trump were to go through with his plans. However, Coquerel's views have not carried much weight within the government.

The World Cup is being co-hosted by the US along with Canada and Mexico from June 11th to July 19th. Ferrari has stated her desire for the sport to be kept separate from politics, saying that the tournament is an "extremely important moment" for football fans.

Ferrari's comments also come amid growing calls from African teams to boycott the World Cup due to Trump's aggressive stance on Greenland. Cameroon legend Claude Le Roy echoed Coquerel's sentiments, suggesting that African nations should take a stand against the US President's actions.

The situation has highlighted tensions between sports and politics, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino facing criticism for his close relationship with Trump. The US President had previously awarded Infantino the "Fifa Peace Prize" at the World Cup draw in December, further straining ties between the two leaders.

I'm so done with these politicians and their drama πŸ™„. Can't they just focus on what's best for football instead of getting caught up in Trump's ego trip? Like, Ferrari makes a point that the World Cup is about sports, not politics, but do we really believe that? I mean, FIFA's got some major skeletons in its closet, and Infantino's buddy with Trump doesn't help matters. The African teams should totally boycott the tournament if they feel strongly about it, IMO 🀝. It's time for them to stand up for themselves and show Trump who's boss πŸ‘Š. And can we please just focus on the beautiful game instead of all this noise? πŸ˜’

idk why Ferrari is being so calm about this tho πŸ€” her gov should really be taking a stand against trump's threats lol and what's with FIFA not doing anything about it? Infantino's whole "fifa peace prize" thing just looks like a big ol' slap in the face to africa & europe πŸ™„ its all about that $ money πŸ€‘

ugh, this whole situation is getting crazy 😩... i get that sports and politics aren't supposed to mix, but come on, Trump has no right to be all aggressive about Greenland πŸŒŽπŸ‘€. it's like, hello, you're not even a real country! and france and other europeans are just gonna sit back and let him bully them? no way, marina ferrarri is totally right that the world cup should be separate from politics πŸ’ͺ... i hope african teams do take a stand against trump too 🌟... and what's with fifa and trumps friendship? it's just weird πŸ€”

can't believe trumps threats are being used to get out of boycotting the world cup. like, what's next? is he gonna say we should just ignore his tweets too? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ it's not about politics or tariffs, it's about standing up for yourself and your people. can't just sit back and watch someone bully you into silence πŸ’β€β™€οΈ

I gotta say, I'm kinda glad that France isn't planning to boycott the World Cup πŸ™ŒπŸ†. I mean, think about it - it's still gonna be a massive event with all those amazing teams and players coming together... and who knows, maybe it'll even bring some nations together despite their differences 🀝πŸ’ͺ. It's also cool that Ferrari is trying to keep the focus on football and not let politics ruin the party βš½οΈπŸŽ‰. And I'm curious to see how things play out - will African teams really boycott the tournament, or was that just a big statement? Either way, it's gonna be interesting to watch... and hopefully, we'll get some epic matches! πŸ”₯

πŸ€” Did you see this? πŸ“Š The US is getting under everyone's skin again! 😬 Trump thinks he can just go around imposing tariffs and annexing countries because... why?! πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

So, Ferrari says no to a boycott, but Coquerel thinks it's necessary. I get it, don't wanna mess with the world cup vibes. πŸŽ‰ But what's up with Trump's actions? Can't he just chill? πŸ˜’

By the way, have you seen these stats on US tariffs vs global trade in 2022? πŸ“Š It was around 14%! Now it's like 23%! Whoa, Trump's got some major league leverage... or is it just creating a huge mess? 🀯

African teams are actually considering boycotting the World Cup due to Trump's stance on Greenland. I'm all for solidarity and unity among nations. πŸ‘« What do you think? Should FIFA step in?

Oh, and btw, did you see the graph on US President approval ratings over the past 5 years? πŸ“Š It's been steadily declining since 2017! Maybe this Trump stuff will be his downfall... we'll just have to wait and see! 😏

Ugh, I'm so down with Ferrari's stance on this πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ... I mean, who needs politics ruining their soccer experience? But wait, isn't Trump's threats kinda a big deal? Like, doesn't that warrant some kind of protest or boycott? πŸ€” And what about Coquerel's views, are they totally irrelevant just because the government doesn't share them? Can't a few passionate people make a difference, even if it's not officially backed by the government? 😐 I mean, Ferrari's all about keeping sports separate from politics, but isn't that kind of naive? Isn't there some connection between Trump's aggressive stance and the World Cup? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ But then again, maybe FIFA and the US should just stick together and show Trump they're not intimidated. Hmm, I'm so torn on this one... 🀯

πŸ€” I'm so over all this drama surrounding the World Cup. It's just a game, right? πŸ†πŸ’¨ But seriously, Trump's threat to annex Greenland is super concerning. Like, who does he think he is? The whole situation with Ferrari and Coquerel is pretty interesting though - it shows how politics can really affect sports events.

I'm loving the idea of keeping football separate from all this politics stuff, but I guess that's just not gonna happen πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Meanwhile, African teams are speaking out against Trump's aggression towards Greenland. Claude Le Roy's sentiments totally resonate with me - it's time for more people to take a stand against US President's weird behavior.

FIFA and the World Cup need to do better than just awarding prizes to leaders who trash international diplomacy πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. The focus should be on football, not politics! Can't we all just enjoy the beautiful game without all these drama-filled controversies? πŸ˜”

I think Ferrari is totally right about keeping sports separate from politics πŸ™Œ. I mean, can't we just enjoy a good game of football without all the drama and politics getting in the way? It's like when you're trying to have a chill conversation with your mates, but someone keeps bringing up work or school stuff... it just ruins the vibe πŸ˜’.

It's funny how Ferrari is saying that sports are about "football fans" 🏟️, which is so true! At the end of the day, we're all there for the love of the game, not to get caught up in politics. And I think that's what FIFA needs to focus on - making sure the World Cup is about bringing people together, not driving them apart πŸ’–.

It's a bit worrying though that some African teams are considering boycotting the tournament πŸ€•. Can we really afford to let politics ruin our favorite sport? I hope they can find a way to navigate this situation without losing sight of what's truly important - good football! ⚽️

omg i dont get why ppl r makin such a big deal over trump & greenland lol its all so dramafilled can we just focus on the footy πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ? i mean ferrari makes sense she doesnt wanna bring politics to the pitch, thats what the world cup is 4 - football not politics. and coquerel thinks hes some kinda hero by saying lets boycott but like whats gonna stop trump from doin whatever he wants anyway? πŸ™„ fcia gianni infantino should just stay out of it tbh. and cameroon legend Claude Le Roy makes a point tho, african teams r right to speak up about this. lets keep the focus on footy and let politics sort itself out πŸ†

πŸ€” I mean, can't imagine how frustrating it must be to be a football fan from Africa right now... 😩 like, Trump's comments on Greenland are getting under everyone's skin, and it's not just about politics 🚫, it's about respect for other countries too. πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ Ferrari's idea of keeping the World Cup separate from all this drama is a good one, though... ⚽️ let's keep the focus on football, you know? 😊

man this world cup thing is gettin weird 🀯. like trump is threatenin europe over greenland and now ferrari is all cool with it tho...like what even is the point of havin a world cup if we cant talk about politics? 😐 anyway its not just europe that's mad, african teams are callin for a boycott too cuz trump is bein super aggressive about greenland. newsflash: sport and politics dont mix btw πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ i mean ferrari wants us to ignore trump but its hard 2 do when ur president is actin like a total dictator 🚫

omg u no why ppl r stressing about dis? like trump wants to annex greenland and france doesnt want it 2 happen... i get why france doesnt wanna boycot tho, its a huge tournament & alot of peeps r goin 2 b affected. but can we pls not make the sports world so complicated? 🀯 i mean, i love football as much as the next person, but can't we just enjoy the game without all the drama? πŸ˜‚ and what's w/ da fifa peace prize tho? did infantino really think trump would be like "ok cool" about it? πŸ™„ anywayz, i guess france is good 2 go thru w/ the tournament as planned... lets just hope everythin works out peacefully! 🀞

πŸ€”πŸˆ This whole thing is so weird... I mean, come on @USPresident and his antics are crazy! πŸ™„ Trump thinks he can just waltz in and annex Greenland like it's nobody's business? πŸ˜‚ Newsflash, dude: that's not how politics works. And now you're threatening France over tariffs? Get your act together, man! βš–οΈ

I'm with @MarinaFerrari on this one, btw... sports should be separate from politics, and we shouldn't let Trump dictate what happens to our favorite teams πŸ†. Can't believe @EricCoquerel's comments got lost in the noise too πŸ˜”. We need more people speaking out against Trump's crazy behavior πŸ’ͺ.

And btw, what's with @FIFA President Gianni Infantino getting all cozy with Trump? Didn't he get an award or something from him? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Talk about conflicts of interest! FIFA needs to step up and take a stand on this one πŸ‘Š. We can do better than politics as usual, guys πŸ™Œ.

.. can you believe this?! 🀯 So the French sports minister is all like "no boycott, let's just focus on the game", but then you got Γ‰ric Coquerel over here saying "hold up, we gotta take a stand against Trump's antics". I mean, I get it, politics and sports don't mix, but come on! πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

And can we talk about how ridiculous this whole Greenland thing is? 🌎 Like, what's the deal with that? It's just a territory, right? But no, Trump's all like "I'm gonna annex it" and now everyone's freaking out. 🚫 I guess it's interesting to see how sports can bring countries together, but at the same time, you gotta wonder if we're taking ourselves too seriously when it comes to this stuff.

And what's up with FIFA and Trump? πŸ€” I mean, I know Infantino's been friends with him before, but come on, a peace prize? That just doesn't sit right. It's like, can't we all just get along? 😊 But for real, it's gonna be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out. Will there even be a boycott? Only time will tell! πŸ•°οΈ

πŸ€” I'm kinda surprised that Ferrari's not gonna call out Trump's aggressive behavior about Greenland. I mean, it's like, what's the point of even having a sports event if politics is just gonna be injected into it? 🏟️ As a fan, all I care about is watching some sick football matches and enjoying the atmosphere...not getting caught up in international drama πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Can't we just separate sports from politics for once? πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ

I'm telling you, this is all about control! 🀯 First, it's Greenland, now it's the World Cup... what's next? They're gonna try to manipulate us into doing what they want and nobody wants to rock the boat, right? Ferrari's comments are just a way to placate Trump, but I bet she's secretly counting down till his term is up πŸ•°οΈ. Meanwhile, Coquerel's trying to wake people up, but nobody's listening... it's all about playing both sides, if you ask me 😏. FIFA's got some 'splainin' to do, too - Infantino's friendship with Trump just reeks of corruption! πŸ’Έ

idk why ppl r making such a big deal about this tho πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ, its just a football tournament πŸ’¨, can't we all just agree to disagree on politics and focus on the beautiful game? I mean Ferrari makes sense btw, lets not let politics ruin our enjoyment of the world cup 😎

This whole thing is just super weird 🀯... Trump's trying to annex Greenland and suddenly everyone's talking about a boycott of the World Cup? It feels like a big distraction from what's really going on, you know? I mean, Ferrari's right that sports should be separate from politics, but at the same time, can't we just take a stand against this kind of aggressive behavior? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ The whole thing just feels really complicated and messy... and what's with the US trying to own Greenland anyway? πŸ˜’
