French police raid X’s Paris office as UK investigation continues

French authorities have swooped in on X's Paris office as part of an escalating probe into the social media giant, with investigators from Europol and French police joining forces to tackle allegations of complicity in child pornography distribution and Holocaust denial content. The raid comes amid growing scrutiny over X’s handling of user-generated content, including a string of non-consensual deepfakes generated by its AI-powered tool Grok.

In April, Elon Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino were summoned to testify as part of the ongoing investigation, which has been ramping up since July. The probe is also examining claims that X manipulated its algorithm and illegally extracted data from users.

The UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has launched a separate formal investigation into X and Grok, focusing on their "potential to produce harmful sexualized image and video content". Meanwhile, the Ofcom regulator has confirmed it is gathering evidence to determine whether X broke the law in its handling of user-generated content.

The latest development follows weeks of non-consensual deepfakes spreading across X's platform, despite claims that the feature was restricted. X did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the raid or ongoing investigations.

omg what's going on with x?? i mean i know they've had some issues in the past but this is getting serious lol so like they're investigating child porn and holocaust denial content? that's not okay at all 🤕 and those deepfakes are so creepy can we just get rid of them already? i feel bad for x though, they seem like a normal company on paper but i guess you never really know what's going on behind the scenes. anyway did anyone else see those vids with elon musk and linda yaccarino being called to testify?? 🤔

just saw this news and gotta say im shocked its about time someone took action on these allegations lol what kind of algorithm lets child porn get through? sounds like x's AI tool grok is a mess tbh 🤦‍♂️ deepfakes are bad enough but when they're used for that kinda content it gets real ugly 😳

OMG, this is like, so serious! 🤯 But I'm actually kinda optimistic here... I mean, think about it - if they're taking action on these super sensitive issues, that means they're finally stepping up to address them properly! 💪 And, honestly, the fact that Elon and Linda are being summoned to testify? That's just accountability at its finest 🙌. Plus, the UK ICO and Ofcom regulator are looking into it too - that's more transparency for the people, yay! 🌞 I know some people might be freaking out about deepfakes and whatnot, but I genuinely think this is a chance to reset and create better systems for user safety. Fingers crossed, right? 🤞

🤔 just thinking about all this... seems like x is gettin' slammed from multiple sides 🚨. they're playin' with fire by messin' around with user-generated content, and now it's catchin' up to 'em 🕷️. what's the point of havin' AI tools if you're just gonna use 'em to spread hate and harm? 💻 it's like they say, you reap what you sow 🌾

🤔 just thinkin about this - what happens when our online freedom comes with a price? 🤑 we're talkin 'bout all these major companies like x, they gotta balance bein' free and not bein' a platform for harm, but it's hard to do that without some level of control. I mean, if you give users the power to create and share anything, there's bound to be some weird stuff out there... 🤷‍♂️

anyway, this whole thing just makes me think about how we gotta be more careful about what we put online, 'specially when it comes to people. I mean, deepfakes are wild... they can really mess with your perception of reality 💥 and if we're not careful, they could lead to some real harm.

I guess the moral of this story is that with great power comes great responsibility 🤝... and online platforms gotta take that seriously. They can't just sit back and let their users do whatever they want... they gotta be proactive about keeping things safe and respectful for everyone. 💪

OMG, this is getting so serious 🤯! I mean, I get it, online safety is super important and all, but come on, a raid in Paris? It's like, totally excessive 😂. I'm all for holding them accountable, but don't they have enough to deal with already? And what about the free speech thingy? Are we just gonna let one platform police others? 🤔
