Gaming company is seeking nominations for landmarks to include in Philly edition of Monopoly

Top Trumps USA is inviting the public to nominate their favorite landmarks, businesses, and nonprofits in Philadelphia for inclusion in its upcoming city-themed Monopoly edition. The game company has already produced 30 community versions of Monopoly under license from Hasbro and aims to create a board that's "very much made by and for the people."

For this new Philly spin on the classic game, players can expect specialty properties along the board, as well as unique utilities, transportation, and Chance cards featuring colloquialisms specific to the city. Classic Monopoly pieces will remain intact, with no cheesesteak tokens in sight.

Interestingly, Top Trumps isn't starting from scratch – a Philadelphia-themed version was released back in 1996, which featured long-defunct businesses like CoreStates and Strawbridge's alongside historic sites like Independence Hall. "It's about time for an update," says Tim Barney, the company representative. The new game will reflect Philly's evolution over the past few decades while incorporating its rich history and iconic locations.

The nomination process is now open until the end of February, with city spots that receive a high number of nominations taking precedence. Businesses that run successful campaigns may also secure a spot on the board. For Barney, research has already begun – he visited Philly last year to scope out potential destinations, including the Philadelphia Art Museum and Rocky Steps, and sampled local cuisine.

The ultimate goal for Top Trumps is to create a game that feels like home to Philadelphians. "Our goal is really to create something that is a love letter to Philly," Barney says. When asked about the release date, he remained tight-lipped but expressed hope that players will experience a sense of familiarity when they pick up their box for the first time.

The city's residents are eagerly awaiting this new spin on Monopoly – one thing is certain: it's going to be a game-changer for Philly fans worldwide.

I'm so done with the cheesesteak tokens being left out lol 🤣 but seriously, can't wait to get my hands on this new Philly-themed Monopoly! It's about time they updated that old version from 1996 - things change in the city like how much I love trying all the different types of soft pretzels at Pat's and Geno's 🥨👍

I'm also stoked to see some of the iconic spots like Independence Hall and the Philadelphia Art Museum make it onto the board, but what about the lesser-known gems? Like, have you ever been to the Magic Gardens? It's this amazing underground art space that's literally hidden from view - I think it would be a sick addition to the game 🎨🔍

And omg, the fact that they're doing a nomination process so people can vote for their fave spots is everything! I'm already thinking of what business or landmark I'll nominate... maybe it's that cute little coffee shop on Rittenhouse Square? Whoever wins gets to be on the board and I'm all about supporting local ❤️

OMG u guys, I'm SO down for this new Philly-themed Monopoly edition 🤩🎲! Can't wait to see some iconic spots like the Liberty Bell & Rocky Steps on the board 🏛️💪 It's gonna be so cool to have specialty properties & unique utilities that reflect the city's vibe. Top Trumps is really doing it right this time, listening to the community & creating a game that feels like home for Philadelphians 👍👌 The cheesesteak token might not make an appearance 😂, but I'm still stoked! Let's get this game made & share it with the world 🌎

OMG, like I was thinking the same thing 🤔 - we need an update on that old Philly Top Trumps game! I mean, who thought CoreStates and Strawbridge's were still relevant back in 1996? 😂 Like, hello, Times Square Philly is a whole different city now. And yay for specialty properties and unique utilities - I'm totally stoked to see some local flavor in the classic Monopoly game. They're really listening to what the people want this time around, which is awesome 💖. But, can they please make sure that Rocky Steps gets the recognition it deserves? 🏃‍♂️ It's like, iconic Philly stuff! I'm definitely submitting my own nominations - who knows, maybe I'll even get a spot on the board 😆.

I think its cool that Top Trumps USA is giving Philadelphians a chance to have their favorite spots featured in the new Monopoly edition 🤔. Its like they're actually listening to what we love about this city, you know? I mean, who wouldn't want to see Independence Hall on the board? Or the Philly Art Museum? 🏛️ It makes sense that they'd include some of those iconic spots.

But whats interesting is that they're also including new spots that reflect how Philly has changed over time. Like, they mentioned Rocky Steps – thats a classic spot, but its not like it was always the same. So I think this new version will be pretty great because its gonna show us what makes Philly unique and special 🎉. Plus, it sounds like they're really trying to make sure it feels authentic to us as Philadelphians. That means a lot! 👍

I think its about time we got a fresh take on Top Trumps USA's Philly edition 🤔. I mean, who doesn't love a good game of Monopoly, but with some local flavor? The fact that they're incorporating colloquialisms and unique locations is gonna make it feel super authentic to the city - I'm talking about iconic spots like the Art Museum and Rocky Steps, plus some hidden gems that only true Philly fans would know 🏛️.

And can we talk about how cool its that businesses are gonna have a chance to get on the board if they run a successful campaign? That's just the kind of community engagement I'm all for 💖. Plus, I love that they're not starting from scratch - a Philly-themed version did come out back in 1996, so there's definitely some nostalgia factor going on 🎉.

I do hope it feels like home to Philadelphians when its released, though... can't wait to get my hands on it and give it a try 👍

man i cant believe they're making a philly monopoly now its about time tho lol, all those classic games need an update but at the same time id want to see them keep some of the old-school pieces like the liberty bell token 🤣, i'd nominate the reading terminal market btw it's so underrated and needs some love up

I'm low-key hyped about Top Trumps USA's new Philly-themed Monopoly edition! 🤩 They're really trying to bring the community together by letting us all nominate our favorite spots, businesses, and nonprofits. It's dope that they're making the game feel more local, you know? I mean, who doesn't love a good cheesesteak token, btw 😂.

I'm also loving how they're taking their time to get it right, with Tim Barney doing his research and all that jazz. He visited Philly last year, for real! 🗺️ And they're already planning some sick specialty properties and Chance cards – I can already imagine the Rocky Steps being a major player in this game.

What's cool is how Top Trumps is trying to make this game feel like home for Philadelphians worldwide. They want it to be that familiar feeling when you pick up the box, you know? 🏠 It's gonna be lit when they drop the new version!

omg i'm so hyped about this 🤩 philly is literally the city of love and cheesesteaks, how cool would it be to see some iconic landmarks featured in monopoly? idk who's running their campaign but if ur got a fave spot u gotta nominate it ASAP! its been ages since we had a new philly edition so fingers crossed that top trumps gets it right this time 🤞 i mean can u imagine being able to buy up pat's king of steaks or runge george's for rent? it'd be lit

🤔 I gotta say, making a special edition of Top Trumps just for Philly is gonna be lit 🔥! It's dope that they're letting the public nominate their favorite spots and businesses – should give some local legends a shoutout 🙌. The fact that they're including colloquialisms specific to the city on Chance cards and utilities is pure genius 💡. I'm low-key hoping they include some cheesesteak tokens, just kidding 😜. Seriously though, it's gonna be awesome to see Philly's evolution reflected on the board – past and present vibes 🕰️. Can't wait for it to drop in Feb! ⏰

just saw this news and its kinda awesome that top trumps usa is making a philly edition of monopoly 🤔, i mean who doesnt love playing with iconic landmarks like independence hall or the liberty bell on the board? but seriously, its dope that they're giving the people the chance to nominate their fave spots & businesses for inclusion, gotta be some local legends gonna make it onto the board 🎉. plus, its cool that they're keeping the classic pieces intact, no need for any new tokens like a cheesesteak slice or something lol 👌

I got some major red flags here, you know? Like, why are they only inviting public nominations and not letting the general public decide who gets featured on the board? Sounds like they're trying to control the narrative or something. And have you noticed how they're emphasizing "love letter to Philly" - that's just corporate speak for "we want to make money off your city's history". I mean, what about all the little guys and businesses that aren't getting mentioned? It's all about the big players and tourist spots, as per usual. 🤔

I'm so hyped 🤩 about this new Philly-themed Monopoly board! It's gonna be lit 🔥, with all the iconic spots like the Art Museum and Rocky Steps represented. I love that they're incorporating local slang and colloquialisms – it's a great way to make the game feel truly Philedelphian 🤗. And who knows, maybe some old businesses will get a revival 👀. The fact that people can nominate their faves means we'll see some awesome additions on the board. Can't wait for this game to drop in 2025! 🎉

omg i just found out that Top Trumps USA is making a new Monopoly edition of Philadelphia!!! 🤩 i mean, i love playing board games with my friends and i'm so down to try this one out! they have all these cool special properties like the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall - that would be so awesome to see on the board!

can we talk about what's going to happen if a business wins the nomination process? 🤑 will it really get to be on the game? i want to know more about how they're choosing which places to put on the board. did they ask anyone from philly for help or suggestions?

and btw, who thought cheesesteak tokens were a bad idea? 😂 that's just crazy talk! anywayz, this new Monopoly edition is gonna be so much fun - i'm definitely nominating the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Rocky Steps! 🏃‍♀️💖

omg i just had the craziest dream last night about trying all the different types of cheesesteaks in philly - from pat's to geno's, and even that new spot on paschall's ... anyway, back to top trumps, i'm curious how they're gonna make this edition feel like home for locals... have you guys been to independence hall? it's so cool! 🤩🗽

omg i'm so down for this!!! 🤩 philly needs a monopoly update ASAP! did u know that philly has over 60 recognized historic districts? 🗺️ anyways, since the last version was from 1996, i think its time to refresh the game with newer spots like the liberty bell or el freeco park. also, who's gonna make sure that cheesesteak tokens are NOT included in this new edition lol. anywayz, its cool that top trumps is involving the public and making it a community effort 🤝. btw, 40% of philly's economy comes from tourism, so i guess we can expect some popular spots to get featured on the board 💸

You know, I was thinking... what does it say about our relationship with place and community when we're willing to buy into a game that's essentially just a representation of our city? Like, do we really think that by collecting these properties and utilities, we're truly investing in the soul of Philly?

And then there's this whole idea of "home" – is it something that can be bought or packaged onto a board? I mean, Top Trumps claims to want to create a game that feels like home, but what does that even mean? Is it just about nostalgia and sentimental value? Or is it really about capturing the essence of a place in a way that resonates with its people?

I dunno, maybe I'm just reading too much into this, but it's making me wonder if our attachment to places like Philly is just as fleeting and superficial as some Monopoly game piece 🤔

I'm so stoked to hear about the Philly edition of Top Trumps Monopoly! 🤩 I've always been a fan of the classic game, and adding in special properties, utilities, and Chance cards specific to the city is gonna make it feel super authentic. It's awesome that they're incorporating local spots like the Art Museum and Rocky Steps – my grandpa used to take me there all the time when I was a kid! 🏔️ I'm also loving the idea of businesses running successful campaigns getting on the board – it's a great way for Philly businesses to get some love. Can't wait to see what kinda cheesesteaks they're gonna include (just kidding, no cheesesteak tokens in sight 😉). Bring on the nomination process and let's make this game feel like home!
